That's the way most of us start as we are all so different. Don't forget that Feb is a short month so if you are going for a calendar month (rather then pay-day to pay-day) your spend is for 28 days rather than 31; depending on when weekends are that makes a big difference for us as the big shop can be the day before or day after and therefore make the budget look (unrealistically) good or bad. I work out how many weekends there are in the month when I do my budget to compensate for this.
Also be honest with yourself, if you have made changes this month to reduce your bill let them "bed in" or you may find yourself going off the rails next month. Small changes that you can sustain are better than yo-yo moneysaving for morale;)

    Thank you, good advice ;)

Spends today are: Turkey steaks reduced, Tesco's own choc chip cookies, 2 italian rolls, 2 multigrain triangle roll, dried goji berries, muscovado, porridge oats, agave, plus 2 x 8 sachets of nescafe mochas but I take that out of personal spends so wont include them.
Also have my fruit and veg delivery today.
Planning on making a casserole with the turkey, and will be making flapjacks.

    So total today £24.46

Spend £9.80 in Lidl on lunch box items for the kids mostly, crisps x2, ham, sweet potatoes, bread, green beans and few other bits.
Seems like I'm doing rubbish, but I'm pretty stocked up and once my musclefood deliver comes Thursday I'll only need fresh top ups.
Just about to update sig :)

Still have all of this months budget intact.
Tonight will see us using up the last of the chicken and the carcass is in the freezer for when I next do some stock.
Still have enough milk and bread in so maybe tomorrow will also see a NSD you never know.
    MARCH £62.38/250
  • Exactly £8 spent. Decided against online shop. Will try and do without. Mother went to Morrisons so I looked online at the offers. She picked me up 2 bags of red potatoes, 3 tins of peas, twirls (treat, lol), blue ribbons, milk, chicken roll, and pepsi. Came to £7.89, so gave her £8. Tried to give her £10 so she could put the £2 towards her savings for going but she wouldn't take it as she was going anyway.

Tea is chicken, new potatoes (well past date on bag, lol), carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy. All stuff that needed using up (apart from gravy and yorkshires).

Off to make tea and update sig....

Just running in for a quick catch-up as dinner is nearly done. I have spent £7.76 in the local co op on junk (all still getting over horrible flu and infections). Tomorrow is big shop day and I have yet to make a list... I refuse to go without a list these days.

Fingers crossed I can keep it to about £75-£80 as I would love to get £20pw into the savings pot. I am loving the motivation the holidays spends saving pot is giving me.

The kids have had a bit of a whinge about the change in puddings so I might have to compromise a little in that area and maybe allow an extra 5-10 over the month for some nicer puddings.
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.

Hi. Is it ok to join.
I currently need to save money on my grocery shopping. We are a large family of 10. I'm currently on long term sick undergoing chemo so pay per month for me is under half. Hubby working but having to do a lot for me. Don't know what I'd do without him.
Currently spend 500-600 per month on food. Going to set budget at £500 for the month running from 3rd feb to 3rd March.

Welcome aboard. I am also going through chemo with the support of a wonderful DH who is trying hard but is challenged in the kitchen. Makes for some interesting meals. Had a treatment yesterday, so it will be a duvet day today. One thing that I find helps is to reserve a little money for a treat just for you. Yesterday it was an ebook from kindle, but could be just a bar of chocolate or a new scarf etc. It does give you something to look forward to during the endless treatment.

Back to the GC, could you please put me down for $400 for the month.

    Cheers

    Hi all.

It's been a nsd for me today.
Thank you kiwiblue for your advice. Will be halfway on treatment in two weeks. Hadn't thought about treats for me as I'm trying to keep things normal for the children and do things with them as I usually would.
Have found it hard not being at work. I'm lucky I've got most of the things we need for next 2 weeks. Eg toilet roll, wash powder, baby milk. Will need a top up shop for fresh fruit and veg at the weekend. Tomorrow I need milk and bread.

    £0/£500
