Skintmum go through your cupboards etc. and make a list of all the things you already have in stock; I bet you have more than you think without having to spend more. ;)

Post the list here and you may even get some suggestions you would never have thought of yourself...

Thanks to skintmum2012 for posting the link on another thread, not interested in jam personally but bet the kids would love choc spread as a weekend treat that won't break the bank.

  • debbym I have no jam left so we are having ours with chocolate spread this week :)onewhoasks posted the link to this recipe and it looks devine so I am going to try this this weekhttp://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/541457/tomato-risotto I have such a back log of food in at the moment I will go through and make a list at the end of the month when we get desperate though. I am just so not used to having no money to spend I normally am able to spend what I want when I want within reason so its coming as a bit of a shock to the system saying that I have lived frugally before so just need to get into the swing of not just going to the shop and spending.

Hi. Is it ok to join.
I currently need to save money on my grocery shopping. We are a large family of 10. I'm currently on long term sick undergoing chemo so pay per month for me is under half. Hubby working but having to do a lot for me. Don't know what I'd do without him.
Currently spend 500-600 per month on food. Going to set budget at £500 for the month running from 3rd feb to 3rd March.

Ah, I did say I thought this month might actually be trickier to get under budget than my amazing January, despite it being only 4 weeks... well OH is at home sick which means he's getting through an awful lot of bread (?!). Boredom, I suppose...

So, I braved the falling snow last night and set off on a little trek to grab some essentials. The nearest shop to me is a small ASDA, and it doesn't stock any of the very basics, so it's not the cheapest option.

It also meant I had to make second trek to Morrisons on the way in to work this morning to get the wholegrain mustard he wanted. But that will be great for finishing off some smoked cheese in a pasta sauce, with a few leeks and mushrooms.

But if I max out the next three shops at the same spend I will still be on budget. :T

... also bagged a free Nak'd bar in my shop today with a voucher- there's a thread for it on the Freebies sections somewhere. Banana Bread. Yum! :)

August grocery challenge budget £150, £90.14 spent in total - £59.86 remaining.
  • Helloooo!!!!

Hope its not too late for me to join this month (I know it won't be, lol)!

Been unwell and in hospital. Finally updated Jan's total and ready to start this month!

Big spends so far, mainly due to DH's shopping while I'm unwell but also a couple of bulk buys. Total is around £110 which is made up of a box of Daz (110 washes), 48 toilet rolls, a big Iceland shop and some meat shopping. Reason for the Iceland shop, DH was given a Love2Shop gift card from work. We are using it for food shopping. Went and spent £75 there but lots of simple meals in there that DH and the kids can make till I get myself back on my feet.

Need to do an online Mr T's shop today. Hoping to keep it under £50. This will mainly be made up of fruit, veg, fresh stuff, some toiletries and packed lunch stuff.

Hope everyone is ok. Sorry I haven't been around! Getting back to normal now so I'll be back to annoying you all with a little post in no time! ;)

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All
Just heating some leftovers up for lunch, bit early but had an early start so Im hungry. Tonights dinner is made as well so no need to spend anything again today. 3 NSDs in a row now. I plan to do my weekly shop tommorow, any good suggestions on bargains to get? Will probably go to Lidl but happy to be swayed...

£450 please. Same as last month which was my first proper month, last month I got to £520.£70 over isn't too bad just need to cut out the small trips to shops

New start today as pay day. Food total is £139.

Hope you don't mind me quoting myself, just helps me keep track. Been hard to judge as we've been away for weekend, but a few days before didn't spend much so think it evens out.

Grocery wise I just got a 50 quid shop. With a few random shops that brings my total to 220.

I've had to meal plan for a week as we are really skint after some big unexpected bills. I feel like I've been toying with old style, budgeting, planning etc, but now I have no choice!!

  • Walked to our local shops today because of the snow and spent a total of £18.12.
£7.69 of this was at the butcher's as we bought some oxtail to cook tomorrow but it's no longer a cheap meat and cost us over £5.
Might make an apple sponge pudding later as have two softish eating apples left in the bowl so we can have that tonight with some custard - yum!
