Sorry it all got on top of you, debtfree - I'm certainly thinking about when to switch things on/off much more than I used to.  It's okay to feel sorry for yourself for a bit, you know, especially when you ally that with the knowledge that you're not the worst of in the world.  You're not, but it's still difficult.  Take care.

It felt like these last two years of Covid were finally coming to a close and we could see the light at the end of the tunnel - only to find its an oncoming train!  Its really understandable to feel a bit low, great to have a plan though.  I've got to have that focus too

Hi debtfreeonwday, we took the decision to stop oping for a while and concentrate on saving for a while too. We're saving towards a new bathroom/new car and whilst we are still paying nursery fees there's no way we can save and op. I think DH and I are currently in denial about rising prices but I we're going to have to sit down and redo our budget now that we know what our council tax and water bill is going to be for the year. Well done for your 19 year plan and happy saving for the wood burner  :)

Only a true MSEr would draw up a 19-year financial plan! Glad it's got you feeling better
This is the kind of thing I'd do for fun  and Himself would stare at me wide eyed and wonder why he married me!!

I can vouch for lighting a stove rather than turning on the heating. We do have an electric on-all-the-time range in winter that heats the rooms upstairs if we leave the doors open. We also revert to a double burner (bottled) gas hob and microwave/grill half oven for summer with the odd slow cooker or thermal cooker meal. 1/8th of the winter level of usage in summer
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I finished the year at £2880.99/£3000 or 96.03% of my annual spend so I am sticking with a £3000 annual budget for 2026
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the grow your own in 2026 discussion thread
