The newspaper article also says
"But Downing Street was keen to highlight “difficulties” Scotland would face in coping with volatility in the oil price, due to its greater dependence on the industry after independence.
Tax revenues from oil and gas in 2012-13 were £4.7bn lower than the year before – a fall of more than 40 per cent and a sum that equates to more than a third of Scotland’s health budget or two-thirds of its spending on education.
Downing Street said the UK was “well placed” to absorb to absorb price shocks that would “dramatically affect a small country’s budget"
It is not clear where the 100billion figure comes from. I suspect it was not Cameron's figure but one calculated by the newspaper based on an assumed oil price.Union, not Disunion

Even though it would cause economic hardship & huge disruption? If I explained my circumstances to the garage and in their expert opinion it should hold out for a while to lessen any impact to me. You know, in the end it was Sod's law. Just one of those unlucky things that happen in real life.0 -

I see a man in front of a computer feeling quite smug right now
My dilemma is I have other constraints which need attention too. How to choose especially when I know my shiny new car is almost ready. I so much wanted to wait and not have to do an emergency repair. Still I took a gamble and sadly, even though my intentions were good, it didn't work out.More a doting Grandad sitting in front of a fire fiddling with a small tablet.
Good luck with your fan club belt!Union, not Disunion

It was the same speech, reported widely and er 'interpreted' by several newspapers and tv programmes. Not just the Scotsman as it was Cameron's first ever cabinet meeting in Scotland. Seems there was a 200bn oil 'deal' on the cards... but only if Scots voted No.. which they did.Scottish independence would render £200bn oil and gas deal unaffordable, first ever cabinet meeting in Scotland will hear...
...David Cameron will use his first ever cabinet meeting in Scotland to promise a revolution in North Sea oil and gas extraction worth up to £200bn over two decades – but that this will only be affordable if the union stays together.
Notice there's a 'promise' there ? Or was it a lie ? Deliberately misleading voters perhaps ? Or mabye you, string et al could just admit that Cameron and BetterTogether were no better at oil prices than the SNP were at the time ?
Or the Daily Mail if you prefer ?Yesterday Mr Cameron argued that Scotland risks losing £200billion of investment in the oil industry if it chooses independence in September’s referendum. He said that only by staying with the UK could the oil industry get the tax breaks it needs to invest in those North Sea oil and gas reserves that are harder to reach...
Yes well... What deal ?It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Who said this in March 2014?He said the Government's statistics are based on oil priced at $113 a barrel, adding: "There's a reasonable case to be made that this is not an over-ambitious forecast but a rather sensible one."
Looks rather foolish now........0
