I am on a mission to get people to use 'Aris' correctly! It's a great piece of rhyming slang.0 -

Is there a police investigation in place now then ? Did it mention it in the article ? I only ask since the solicitor in question has already been struck off by the body who 'investigates solicitors'. I take it Thompson is now being looked at for criminal offences from 4 years ago... is that right ? ( again I can't read the full article ).
Is there a criminal investigation right now underway in other words, or are you just 'surmising'.
* bored, waiting up for blood moon thing...It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

* disclaimer, post is nothing to do with politics/SNP or Englishness..
But my husband uses it a lot like I said.. a Pompey lad. And I always find it funny when he does. I had no idea the origins.. so you learn something new every day. Thank you !It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Most people that use it don't. When pushed I find people assume it has something to do with 'Arris Tweed!0 -
Shakethedisease wrote: »You've completely missed the point. Mhari Black put it in a nutshell... it's not enough for Corbyn to be against Trident.. Labour have to be against Trident. All Corbyn has done is prove he can't even secure a debate on it, at his own party's conference, while he's the leader of the party. The rest of the Labour party don't want to even discuss it. I like Corbyn, but I was hoping the rest of the party might give him a real chance on contentious issues like these. Really get debating and throwing ideas about. There's little point in him leading anything much if only 30 Labour MP's ever support him on votes like Trident etc.. and the other 200 vote otherwise.
However, I do hear there will be a debate about the Tv licence fee.. Looking forward to that instead...
Mhari Black is going to have a long wait.
There is very little enthusiasm amongst most English people to abandon Trident, regardless of their political hue.
Corbyn knows this, and apparently has decided not to stick his head in a noose three weeks after election trying to force the rest of the party to agree to something they will never agree to. All that would accomplish is leaving the door open for another Blairite, Tory owned press approved stooge to get in.
And no one wants that, do they? Certainly not the SNP, who naturally are delighted to have a left wing Labour Party again. Brothers in arms and all that, just like they've been saying they wanted all along.
Anything else would suggest that... that they aren't really left wing at all. That they've just been saying whatever they thought Scottish people wanted to hear in order to get an independence vote their way.
Heavens forefend!!!

I thought it was from the Miller's Tale. Which I think uses the spelling Eris regarding the poker incident.
The only other things I can remember from being tormented with attempting to reconcile reading an apparently foreign language book as an A level student is:
He thakked her boot lendesweel. (he slapped her buttocks in an overly familiar manner)
And
Squaymous fart. (A notable bout of flatulence)0 -
wrong as usual: remember to run your ranting past your parents and grandparents before posting
but what we both agree about is that the millions killed (and being killed today) is totally unrelated to nuclear weapons
sadly Corbyn could have saved lives by not supporting the killing IRA and hamas rather than his juvenile ranting about nuclear weapons.
I think Corbyn was probably more useful supporting the peace process that led to the Good Friday agreement.
I am glad you are so so concerned about the deaths of innocent people due to the abuses of democratic process by the military industrial complex.
I am sure you will join Jeremy in condemning the 4700th air strike on Syria, Iraq and Kurdistan enacted by the US and UK which is even now causing a flood of refugees into Europe, none of whom we seem to think we have a duty to look after.
You then doubtless, will express your outrage over British involvement in American drone strikes in Afghanistan that have now killed over 4000 totally unrelated individuals, including over 100 children, in the pursuit of eradicating 47 known 'terrorists'.
Hot on the heels of all this condemnation I am further confident you will raise a voice of protest at the the 1462 Palestinian civilians that were killed in Israeli military action, 495 of whom were children, representing a civilian casualty rate of Palestinians of 70% of total deaths, in 2014 alone.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/the-un-says-7-in-10-palestinians-killed-in-gaza-were-civilians-israel-disagrees/2014/08/29/44edc598-2faa-11e4-9b98-848790384093_story.html
You might then reflect that Hamas were elected to government in the Palestinian state in elections that were generally considered fair, and as it is somewhat unlikely they are going to be going anywhere while Palestinian kids are being turned into meat paste by American military equipment at a rate of 1.3 a day - maybe we should try talking to them.0 -

Now you've hit the nail on the head with SNP. Fortuitously , in Sturgeon SNP have found someone who can brazenly lie through her back teeth while appearing genuine , caring and crucially facially honest. Highly desirable skill in any politician I guess, but not much use to her misled voters. Although she has developed a single tell tale mannerism when telling porkies in a hard interview.
Salmond wasn't as capable of doing this, possibly due to his largely inflated self ego. Some say Salmond has copied part of his public persona from Harold Wilson. A canny politician while being your average man of the people guy, with no frills, someone you can trust.
Unfortunately Salmond's ego and liking for fine dining, hotels, and dubious jaunts overseas, all paid for by his 'starved, deprived , oppressed' people, contradict his image.0 -
Not Tories no ... Maggie Thatcher and David Cameron ... there is a difference ... I do agree with some of the Tories policies BTW ..
Possibly, but not sure the people you canvassed would easily know the difference. Kids have been reared up here with a chip on their shoulder to hate and fear Tories for decades. Started as a lazy Labour soundbite , now pinched and heavily relied upon by SNP.
I know you're not an SNP voter or member, but believe Independence will somehow change life in Scotland, a fresh start with a new and different approach. You probably know I don't think it will, for a number of reasons. Several simply due to human nature being what it is. And certainly not with SNP in charge as they definitely would be for several years, but particularly when the rules or constitution was put together.
I also agree with some Tory policies. But not all.0 -
It's not just about having a better life ( for which we will need to work really hard at with many sacrifices along the way ) and I agree that human nature has the potential not to improve things particularly that huge chip that Scotland seems to have on its shoulder
It's about every country ( not just Scotland) having the right to decide it's future, the right to point it's self in the direction it wants to ... kinda like what we want for our children, a chance to grow up and become the adults we should be ...
As I say it certainly won't be easy but then leaving the parental home isn't always easy either0
