I think Cameron should offer the position of Secretary of State for Scotland to the SNP, and give them a seat in cabinet.

Well I am Scottish, I live and work in Scotland and can't agree more. The sooner the 2 fish get seen for what they are (2 faced, lying, hypocrites that have caused more damage to their country than anyone else has ever managed to do) the better.

I am pretty pleased that I don't live in Scotland I feel quite sorry for hard working Scots who would just like some stability and to be able to plan for the future. You would have hoped that the recent referendum would have put this whole thing to bed for a generation but it now seems to be gathering pace and the Nationalists will just keep coming back until they eventually scrape a win which will be irreversible.

I really think that now the best chance in keeping Scotland in the Union is to let them have higher public spending as long as it is paid for by the Scottish taxpayer. Then I believe when it starts hitting the Scottish taxpayer in the pocket they will be a lot less willing to support the SNP.

I don't think so. There will be an offer. But it's unlikely to be FULL fiscal autonomy or devo-max. Though they may try to pass it off as FFA.

And anyway, after a few years of the Tories, will no end in sight due to boundary changes, then EVEL.. will see support for independence shoot up I daresay.

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/comment/columnists/in-the-face-of-anti-scottish-sentiment-stirred-by-the-right-wing-press-and-the-to.125590123

It wouldn't be FFA as NIcola will reject it on some faux grounds as she knows that FFA before independence, will destroy the SNP and send them into the wilderness for 100 years.

However Nicola has several things on her side (although she needs to remember that the lies she tells the Scots shouldn't be repeated down south),

-firstly Cameron doesn't want to be the PM who lost Scotland and the union as will compromise (that mean give scots unfair financial advantage
-secondly there are enough Tory 'Scottish' fellow traveller MPs to vote against making the Scottish settlement fair to all the people of the union: as Labour will support the unfair Scottish settlement then Cameron wouldn't be able to enforce a fair settlement

so Scotland will be spared financial meltdown a second time in only a 12 months or so.

Of course the great danger is that idiots like the Mhairi will probably fight for socialist purity at the expense of the people of scotland.

    we will see

but you have my continuing support for a new referendum and any help I can give : just call me

    Two phrases spring to mind
    - keep your friends close and your enemies closer still
    - better in the tent p155ing out than outside the tent p155ing in

It *could* be a masterstroke......one person from each party in some minor government post.....including Scotland Wales and Norn secretaries.

The density costs more argument is true but negligible as most people in Scotland live in urban areas. For example wiki says the metro area of Glasgow
And Edinburgh alone are home to close to 3.7 million people or 70% of the population.

Also the primary cost of distance is not really borne by the state but by individuals in higher transportation costs

True. But you forget Scotland's shame, that of religious apartheid in education, with state funded primary and secondary schools for catholics and a different state system for everyone else. There's a good argument for interdenominational education for societal reasons, but there's obviously a financial efficiency there too.

Labour wouldn't dare address the subject, obviously. I wonder if the SNP has the nuts to do anything about it ?

If there is pupil demand for more than one school in an area, I see no problem in one of them being a faith school. However I do have an issue with the cost of loads of different faith schools in the middle of nowhere.

It's not "faith schools" in the tradition south of the border.

Instead it's sectarian education. Belfast-lite, catholic versus protestant. That's the horrible reality of Glasgow & west central Scotland. Segregated education of that type has no place in a country which aspires to full nationhood.

How does Catholic v Protestant schools in Scotland differ from CoE v Hindu v Catholic v Jewish v Muslim schools in England?

You're about 30 years out of date with this. Sectarianism, apart from when it comes under the guise of football.. is just about dead in Scotland. Even the Orange walks you barely see anyone under 50 on them these days. Unless they're ferried over from Ireland for the 'biggies' in July.

As for faith schools. Out of about 2569 schools in Scotland, there are 370 faith schools. 366 of which are Catholic. Most of which welcome pupils from other faiths and backgrounds. Muslims in Scotland also attend Catholic schools. There is no big impact. Even then, most will go on to a non-denominational secondary school after primary school.
Whilst maintaining a strong Catholic ethos, Scottish Catholic schools have long welcomed pupils from other faith backgrounds, though they tend to give precedence to non-Catholics who come from religious families and a large number of Muslims also go to Catholic schools.
I live in the West of Scotland. Sectarianism is dying off. And you are vastly overegging the pudding on this issue imo.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
