Credit Card Amount Increase without my Consent

They didn't give you more money, the gave you the Option to borrow more money.
And you did.....
They increased my limit without my consent? It wasn't a option? The credit card was increased! If it was an option they would have contacted me first and ask me the question "do you want your limit on your credit card to be increased?" where there could be only one answer from two choices Yes or No.0 -
Regardless of whether you consented to an increased credit limit, you consented when you spent the money.
That's when you gave your consent.0 -

So if this ever happened to me in the future I can spend it because more money went into my account regardless of how it got in there

Not really the same is it. By increasing your limit they didn't actually give you any money, they gave you more availability to borrow - anything you spent would obviously be owed back.
You could have phoned them immediately and asked them to remove the increased limit, and they would have done.
Re closing the account, I don't know what happened there, but again you can't get out of paying what you spent. If you really wanted to close the account you would have phoned back or found the appropriate number on the internet. In the meantime you could easily have cut up your card to prevent more spending.0 -

So what is the difference between a overdraft and a credit card? If i wanted to increase my overdraft I would have to call them up, but for a credit card for this instance they increased it without me calling them up?0 -

In this instance the difference is minimal. Both give you the 'option' to spend the money and you choose whether you want to or not. Nobody is forcing you to use either.
I go back to my original question of what are you trying to achieve in complaining?0 -

My original question is that they should not increase my limit without asking me first. I can't be the first person surely to raise this question? There must be other people out there thinking the same.0 -
avfc82 - They would have contacted you and given you notice of the increase with the option to decline it.
But I'm sure you didn't receive that communication. All that glitters is not gold.0 -
I just had my credit card limit increased.
In my last bill it said that my limit was going up and I could opt out by calling them. Could this have happened in your case, i.e. it is just a sentence added to your previous credit card bill.0
