    Hi,

A while back I paid my Barclaycard credit card in full £6000. A couple months later Barclaycard decided to increase my limit from £6000 to £8950 without my consent, my credit rating at the time wasn't good and still isn't but stupidly I've used the credit card and gone up to that limit. Why would Barclaycard at the time increase my limit without notifying me and wouldn't they do some kind of credit check to say i'm a vulnerable person and that there was no benefit on increasing my credit. From a outside point view Barclaycard know farewell I was going to use that credit card again but this time I would be owing more that my previous credit amont, there right parasites for doing this! Anything I can do to make a complaint to say that they should not have upped my limit without my permission?

    Thanks

Because you paid off a balance of £6k ! Why are you a vulnerable person ? And why do you think a credit search would show this ? What are you going to complain about ? The fact that you spent their money ?

They texted me last week to say that they had increased my limit too.

So do they have the option to decrease my credit without notifying me?
They usually have to tell you about it. They can reduce it to zero if they like. Where fraud is suspected they don't have to give notice in advance, just as soon as practical afterwards.

It happens that a couple of months ago Barclaycard said they planned to increase the limit on a card of mine by £1500. The letter made it very clear that all I had to do was call or write to them if I didn't want the increase. They then offered me an attractive balance transfer rate and I asked for a larger increase. They increased by £5,000 instead after asking what my current income was.

If you have notified them that you are a vulnerable person and asked them not to increase the limit they should respect that request. They also should have a team or policies specifically to deal with those who notify them that they are vulnerable, in a range of different ways. Notably for cases of mental illness or addiction that can result in uncontrolled spending or inability to consent. If say you are bipolar and had notified them of this and requested that they not increase the limit it is possible that they may end up having to accept liability for the part of the spending above the previous limit if that was done during a manic period.

You have the option of ringing up and saying "no thanks".

If you see a credit limit as a spending target, there's very little anybody else can do to help you.

So based on my track history and spending habits they would know that by doing some data mining/forecasting from there side that I am likely to go in debt again and that I'm a vulnerable person. Its's like giving a drink to a alcoholic.

So-called "vulnerable people" have a right to operate credit facililities. There must be a presumption that once you're 18 you are responsible for your actions. Provided from your history it looks like you can meet the repayments then there is nothing irresponsible in making extra credit available.

Many people on here COULD afford to take on more credit but have trouble getting it. The balance is about right IMHO.

If lenders had to make more complex enquiries, the system would become very expensive to run.

Does the phrase 'personal responsibility' mean anything to you?

Why after paying off your credit card did you not then close the account then the temptation to spend would not have been there.

This is not Barclaycards fault it is your own time to take some personal responsibility.

Yes I do I am at fault for spending it but I also blame the banks for giving me more money when I did not ask for this increase in the first place! When I want a more money for a Overdraft then I had to click a button on my Banking Profile page online to ask for my overdraft to be increases and they reviewed this and then either gave me the increase or said after reviewing the case we cannot give you more money. But for the credit card they did this automatically without my Consent!?!? What benefit are they getting for giving me a increase?!

I remember when I said I wanted to close my account after I paid it off and the person on the phone said that they couldn't transfer me to the department that closes the account as they do not have the option on the phone and could not provide me with a number either. I would love to get the recording for that voice message does anyone know if they still hold voice records for calls still?

I am struggling to see as to how, by any stretch of the imagination, you believe that it is anyone's fault but your own. Unless the CC company gave you an increase and then went on a spending spree on your behalf.
