As I explained above I really didn't mean lying or anything like that!! I would never do anything fradualant or morally wrong..I just heard of some people who were advised by their phone companies that if they took insurance out there and then they could claim there and then. I really didn't mean anything else! Think I read it on mumsnet.
The salesmen would be happy for you to commit fraud if it meant they would get a sale from it :rotfl:

Have you thought about taking it to one of those wee PC and Mobile repair shops and getting a quote of them before you go commiting fraud?

  • I am NOT going to commit fraud.

I am actually really upset...I didn't mean that at all...I finally joined after years of lurking to try and sort myself out this year.

No, I haven't...that's not a bad idea, I will look for one.

do you have a bank account that has insurance benefits? If so - you might find that even though the phone isn't specifically registered, it might be covered anyway?
This happened to me with Barclays - I called them, explained the situation - they told me that as it was my phone, even though not specifically registered with them it would be covered. All I had to do was enter the details on their system, and put in a claim straight away.

I didn't mean deliberately but bad advice on mumsnet and not reading the terms and conditions could get you there. hope you find someone who can fix it at a reasonable price.

I have a Barclays Additions account and it has phone insurance..I've been paying the account fee consistently for 7 years. Do you think it's worth a go? I had my previous phone registered with them

  • Hi annabelsaves

Welcome to the friendliest forum online!!

It might be worth phoning your provider again - explaining the situation and asking if there is any alternatives - e.g. paying of the handset so you can upgrade/sidegrade, changing tariff to save some money etc, they may sell you a refurb though shopping around for a payg may still be cheaper.

It may well be that some phone companies offer a repair on a broken phone if you then sign up to expensive insurance ... as you point out, this is NOT fraud, its a different way of getting you to pay for the repair.

I hope you get a satisfactory result.

Thankyou. Do I need to look for a PAYG phone or a sim free phone? What's the difference? I will also try vodafone again..although I also asked if I could reduce my tariff and they said absolutely not!

    Yes, definitely worth a go.
Probably not covered, but worth a phone call to find out.
