I'm too scaredy cat to throw much financial stuff out
And as another poster said I'm not too keen on digitalising
I've been through a legal situation this week and some of it referred to 15years ago. So yes from now on I will purge regularly but I will just file this years papers and archive the rest
A lot can go and has done but you never know

I think archiving is a great idea. So, I can keep what I think I might need stored in the house somewhere and pack the rest up in the loft.

    I'm going to start now.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:
  • This is so addictive, tidying and it's fun. (Never thought I'd say that!).

I've just taken all (12!) of the bags for life out of the car. I now have picked he 5 that give me most joy and folded 4 neatly inside the 5th. I have reclaimed the boot of the car which was such a mess and now have just the number I need of my favourite ones too.

The other 7 which are either old or just not joyful will be used to fill with charity donations! Win win.

Next I took out the kids blankets, picnic blanket and blanket to protect the seats, these have been put in the wash (again rescued from the floor and boot). Once dried I will ranger roll them and find a home for them in them in the car.

Finally I've just Decluttered about half and then folded all of my husbands socks and pants and all of mine too. It seems such a small amount now folded, I have to keep reminding myself that is the point! And just because 14 pairs of underwear rolled up seems nothing compared to the jumbled mess of 40+ pairs, I do the laundry weekly and that is more than enough!

2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(

This carrier bag business - well is it this year, October in fact - that we have to start paying five pence per carrier?

I am sure it is!! Does anybody know and can update?

I just looked on gov.uk and yes, pending "parliamentary approval" this will happen in October.

Glad I've discovered samosa-ing as it makes it easier to keep a bag or two in my handbag

I've pretty much finished my wardrobe :j and took all the bags to the cs :j

I have clothes in the loft but they are maternity clothes and need getting rid of somehow - hopefully in return for some cash!

while I was at it I did the bed linen stored in a pull out drawer under the bed and have made room to store 2 extra pillows which have just been floating about from room to room recently.

contrary to MK guidance we do need to store a fair bit of bedlinen - we have visitors at least once a year and with 3 children who fairly regularly puke/wee on pillows/duvets - its essential to have spares while the others are in the wash :rotfl:

DH is getting on board mentally but hasn't made a start yet. I've been sorting through all the kids arts/crafts/homework materials which are a massive dumping ground on the kitchen windowsill. I was moaning at him a bit for not putting things away properly as I have to have a massive chuck out every couple of months - and he said - "well really what we need to do is get rid of half of it :)" and he's quite right - so I did :rotfl:

I still find the carrier bag anxiety a bit perplexing! surely you will just use reusable bags for your shopping? - that's what I do now? I buy bin bags - we only use 1 a week in the main bin and I buy smaller white bin bags for upstairs for the bathroom as I put the few disposable nappies in that we use (mostly washables) When the nappies stop I won't bother with a bin bag in that bin and just empty it into the main bin when it goes out and wash the bin as I used to do.

I also agree that the supermarkets surely have the bigger duty to reduce the wrapping they use:( but I wonder if the flip side of that would be to increase food waste.......
  • There will have to be some re-kondoing of my knickers :), those hiding at the back that gave me joy when I sorted them have suddenly become joyless when I wear them!!!!

  • I'm amazed at how neat & tidy my c-o-d have stayed this past week. And folding my laundry takes no time at all. I've not tackled DH T-shirts etc as they are on shelves and I'm not sure the fold thing will work. I'm debating whether I need to find some type of boxes I can put on the shelves to create drawers.

My house is so cluttered at the moment but not with the usual type of paperwork, junk, ornaments etc. My house is full of car parts!!!:eek: DH is in the process of rebuilding a "heap of junk" that has been sat on our drive for some 7+ years. We've finally got the money to complete it, but now I have parts all over the house

Fingers crossed it is booked into the garage at the end of Feb to have the body work finished (and engine work checked) then MOT etc. Once its all done I plan to completely tackle all the rooms in the house, especially areas where I am unable to get to at the moment. It will be the start of Carboot season too so I hopefully I'll be able to say thank you & good bye to some items and hope they will bring someone else some joy
    (and me some extra cash!)

Thank you to whoever suggested Amazon for Trade in of books. I never realised they did that. I am now slowly going through my collection of books to see if its worth doing. DS has a few old Nintendo DS games & Playstation games that he no longer plays with too:money:

I just finished the book and I did enjoy it, even the weird bits.:D

It has made me realise that
    a) I have decluttered so much that quite a few sections of the book weren't relevant and
    b) My storage areas can look a lot better if they are properly organised and kondoed.

I keep opening drawers and cupboards to admire the beauty, I can't be the only one.:rotfl:

    Hi Konverts

I hit it hard this morning, 5 bin bags of clothes to the CS!!!!

I was brave and got rid of my 'when I' clothes, you know the ones when I - loose weight
    - go to a formal evening (ha ha n-ever) etc etc

My faithful companions Eric and Ernie the cats were helping - not - by laying on my clothes piles...

I now have my whole wardbrobe in 2 ikea bags ready to put into my new bedroom drawers on Friday, when our room is finally finished :)

Time to tackle the shoes ;)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

    £300/£130
  • Many thanks OP - you've encouraged me to throw open the doors and drawers of my wardrobe and I weeded out 2 enormous sacks to the charity shop, 1 sack of rags to the PDSA, and I've taken out all of the presents, toiletries and books that were temporarily living either in, or on top of, the wardrobe to sort later.

I found items that still had price labels on, items that I could hardly remember buying, and too many bits that were either too small or too large.

I'm still dithering over whether to get rid of a couple of coats and jackets but at least I can see what I've got now.

Next up will be the shoes - but I don't really have many of those. Then it will be underwear & pyjamas!

Still can't fold my tee shirts that well though ;)
