This thread is fascinating and I can't wait to read the book. Where do I learn to fold the T shirts...?? And do they get creases in them if folded in this brilliant way? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Further areas kondoed this afternoon:
Tea towel and cloth drawer
Placemat drawer
My make up/hair/nail/toiletries (all fit in one drawer now!)
My footwear
Half of sons clothing
Half a sack of rubbish, plus two bags for life to go to charity.
😃2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
So I wandered onto to this thread out of interest and ended up reorganising and kondoing my drawers. Who knew a tidy knicker drawer could bring so much joy ?0

Hi everyone,
Today i kondoed the towels,
i ranger rolled the facecloths and the hand towels but the bath towels and bath sheets really beat me.
i couldn't ranger roll them so i tried samosaing them now they look pretty sitting on their bums but with the corner standing up. I love love love it, i am getting a bit sad now.
Hope it stops everyone making a mess the way they usually do looking for the correct size of towel. They look so pretty so i might not let anyone use any lol.
Its addictive, its productive, its fun and i am loving clearing out all our carp.

And there you have it.
Why I stopped rolling our face clothes. Not only did it stop others making a mess, but others got dumped on top folded haphazardly, etc.
Today I ended up back in bed ( the builder cam in to do work, but sent me back to bed and out of his way). He left the house in a better state than my resident parent has for the last two days while I was in bed. Tbh, this morning I could have cried at the state my house was in after only two days of me being out of action, and bearing in mind I am only partly in action because of health this is pretty depressing indeed.
I don't really see the point ATM, it gets undone faster than I ( and DH when he is here) can do it and really only I care.0 -
I let all my jam jars go this afternoon. I thanked them for giving me pleasure when I was in my chutney making phase but I realised that we don't eat much chutney or jam. I have enough jars for marmalade and lemon curd which is what I do make and eat on a regular basis plus some bottles for elderflower cordial and there are a few spare. And they are neatly stored and I can find them when I want them.
Tomorrow I am going to let a couple of thermos flasks go to a CS where hopefully they will help someone trying to feed their family good lunches. I kept them for making yogurt but I have accepted that I simply don't like the yogurt I make.
And I will take the packets of chickpeas to the foodbank (though they tend not to get many requests for beans and pulses, they do get a few people who fall on them with cries of delight, they tell me). I cannot get hummous as smooth as shopbought with the equipment I have at home.
And it would not be very MSE to buy a Vitamix just for that, would it?:rotfl::rotfl:It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Aah, I am now minus both veg trolleys, one to pal yestereve and one to c.s. after work, along with 2 bags of donations, mainly clothes but a few other random items of kitchenalia and books.
And I came back with nothing but fruit and veg, go me.
It's fascinating to share snapshots of everyone's journeys. I've cleared out a lot of stuff, including several clothes which took up space on my 3 ft hanging rail. I would have expected to see a lot of fresh air or even *whisper it* gaps up there, but there isn't.
It's made me realise that there are clothes up there which I may not want, but as the majority of the hanging items are summer things, I will use them in their season, find them joyful or otherwise, and release them as necessary.
The plastic tablecloth which I replaced with a much jollier one from the 50p Chazzer will be going back whence it came; parental home. I asked if it was wanted back at the homestead before I donated it, so will probably ride the coach over the parents' place in Feb at some point and take it then.
I have also started on a lovely jar of bath product which will see me several months of joyfulness. It is like many toiletry items in that its packaging is rather attractive. The friend who gave it me mentioned the lovely jar and how you can keep it to store Stuff in. Which I choose to interpret as her thinking she would have kept it for storage, had it been hers. I find people sometimes buy as gifts items which they would like to have themselves, have you noticed?
When it's empty, much later in the year, I will ask her if she would like the jar back, otherwise it's going out. I don't need any more temptations to store/ hoard stuff, there's enough on the premises already. Plus I get nervy about heavy glass jars in bathrooms as I book enough repairs to know how falling jars/ areosols can total wash basins and even WCs and tubs.
Now that I can see the contents of my pyjama drawer clearly, I am concentrating my wear on the season-appropriate jammies, the ones made from brushed cotton, and will then cycle into the lighterweight items as the weather warms up. I am thinking that one of the warm pairs is on its last winter and when it's summer, I shall thank these well-worn items for their service and release them into the rag collection, to be reborn as something else.
Which will in turn free up drawer space - seeing all the jammies together made me realise that I had more than enough, so why have more?
I'm finding having my clothes in plain view is making me less anxious about acquiring more, that I can appreciate that I am already incredibly well-supplied and don't need to go yearning after more Stuff.
How was the old mantra? One on, one off and one in the wash.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Found the t shirt folding video on Youtube. Looks very nice, but I am just worried they would crease more like that, there are some comments on Youtube to that effect.
I am definitely going to start on some of these de cluttering ideas over the weekend and I have next week off work, so the plan is to be well on top of it all by the time I go back to work.
At the moment though we have a lot of clutter in the dining room as it is stuff that is waiting to be carbooted as soon as possible and it won't fit in the attic so has to stay where it is for now. Hopefully won't be that long before it is all gone though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hopefully won't be that long before it is all gone though.I think all manner of storage in drawers (and even on hangers) leads to some creasing. Creasing is worse in some fabrics and also in stuff which is piled (stuff at the bottom of the heap, compressed by the weight of other clothes) gets horribly creased.
By folding and storing tee shirts upright, like books, you are ensuring that no item will be squashed at the bottom of the pile. And tee shirts are made of a knitted fabric - cotton - and quickly loose any creases within minutes of being worn due to the heat of your body. So I wouldn't worry too much, give it a go, and see how it suits you. If it doesn't work out for you, and you are slightly creased in the tee shirt area at the start of the day, it's no big deal.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi ploppy, I spent some time Konmari-ing my clothes the other day and so far am delighted with the results.I have had no problems with creasing...think the key thing is to smooth them out before folding and then not to squeeze them in together, to let them breathe. What have other people finding?
