This is a good idea. I have something similar, for things I know I don't want to keep but don't feel ready to get rid of. I call it the "Mourning Box", and find that I can go and look at or touch the things in it for a while, and thank them for their role in my life, before they finally make their exit.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

I've decided that today is the day I will finish the kitchen. It doesn't need more than a few hours work, yet could easily fill several days if I let it. I am often guilty of letting jobs expand to fill the time available. If I am to clear my list of 'miracles' that I intend to achieve over the Chrimble holidays I cannot afford for this to happen.

Last night I deep cleaned the lounge, and the understairs cupboard, so the car seat finally has somewhere to go, and I found my upholstery cleaner, and some other useful bits and bobs. That made me feel good, but wasn't very kondo because I only threw out 2 bags of rubbish from behind the sofa rather than sorting through things.
I have been watching "Get your house in order" and its very theraputic - makes my possessions look minimal!

I put my kitchen back in order today. Kondoed some plastic tubs from the "tupperware" shelf which were surplus to requirements, and two forks. I'm debating whether to kondo the tea cups and saucers. They are quite wide, shallow cups which means the tea can cool down rather fast.
I bought them as a gift to myself when I moved in to my flat, along with coffee mugs, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug. I use the teapot for making tea in, but I rarely serve it in the teacups (maybe used twice in 2 years). I tend to use mugs. The mugs are made of china, they're pretty and they make me happy.
You know what, just writing this down here makes me realise that using up half a shelf of prime kitchen cupboard space for something I never use is daft. They're going in the chazzer box.
Taking a brief break from tidying in the lounge/dining room. I have a half filled box for the chazzer, three bags of recycling and about 5 carrier bags of general unrecyclable carp. Funny how you don't see these uneccesary things straightaway isn't it.
OK time to crack on and hoover behind the sofa before it gets too late. Don't want to upset the neighbours!"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

more than 50 items have left my kitchen and it feels so much better for it! I need to buy some drawer organisers and sort the cleaning stuff under the sink, but other than that it is largely done. It needs a deep clean, but that is a battle for another day!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Wow pavlov's dog, you did well. Allybee, I've also found that writing it here sometimes helps me focus - having to write it down somehow clarifies things.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

A while back I decided to embrace the grey and was cultivating a bit of a Mallen Streak (That probably shows my age more than the grey hair).
After a couple of weeks my OH commented that it made me look old. Well,as I love him and valued his opinion I told him to get stuffed
A couple of months later , whilst visiting my Sister , my Brother- in- law after a few drinks points at my hair and tells me “You need to sort that out”
I used to regularly have my hair dyed with strong chemicals at the hairdressers and it did look good when just styled. However I discovered a year and a half ago that I had developed a rare malignant cyst, originating from a hair follicle (a malignant, proliferating pilar cyst for anyone thinking I'm making that up). Two operations later I have a small bald patch which is permanent, and the prognosis is good. There may be no connection between the chemicals and the cancer, however I am not even allowed sunlight on the bald patch. If anyone made a rude remark about my greying hair I might be tempted to reorganize their nose with my knuckles.
ETA Sorry, when I replied I forgot that I had returned to trying to catch up with the thread, so have bumped a rather old post. All this Kondoing has released my inner feisty nature :rotfl:.0 -
Hi everyone. I have finally finished the entire thread and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Feeling a bit low today, I've had 2 days of very little energy and am scared I am slipping back health wise.
We also did the parent visit today and I always find that draining.....
I feel as though I am getting too insular and am really worried about going back to work mid Jan after my illness.....
I get times like this round Christmas wish I knew why!
Well done on the konding though everyone xxx0 -
Kondoing is one of those moments where I dont believe you are ever the same as before you started it.Its like you are completely exposed with no carp around so your barriers have to come down as they are not there anymore. You see things far more clearly and also make more use of your time just to stare and see things you wouldnt have noticed before. You also notice things about people friends and also family which before you would have let go over your head.[...]I am done with making excuses for people and get so fed up when I hear others do it.[...]So like I said it leaves you very very exposed so continue at your peril :rotfl:[...]Like you said iTwin time is short and getting shorter every second that goes by and thats what I have also been thinking about very hard for a while now.
How true Mavvymoo! I realise now that I had blanked the fact I have been putting up with things, which suddenly I can't continue to do. I feel as if I've been walking around in a dark room and suddenly there's a light thrown on my life that shows areas I need to resolve, and soon. We think we are dealing with our negative feelings about other people by blanking those feelings until there's an appropriate occasion to address them, or by waiting until they mysteriously resolve themselves at some future date. Far from dealing with them, we have merely put them into a bag which we then drag behind us, weighing us down and making us more resentful, possibly even making us ill with stress. The mysterious energy that motivates Kondoing drives us to tackle the problem head on. No one should have the right to steal our joy.0 -
Just about to turn in for night. Kondoing of lounge has been rather productive with more stuff going into CS bag, recycling and bin.
I found a hoard of polypockets inside 2 binders that is verging on the ridiculous. I think most hark back to uni days and trying to keep lecture notes neat. They don't get much use these days. Binned a few that were really tatty and I will take the rest into work. I have saved about 30 which I'm sure will be more than enough for personal purposes.
