Happy birthday VJs mum, good call on buying the cakes. Mavvy, hope your dad is better soon.
I read the link above with interest, but I noticed she talks about 'when we decluttered last year'. She's obviously not doing MK or she wouldn't need to do it every year!
Yesterday I had my first folding fail. I have a drawer with pashmina-type scarves in, got one out yesterday and it was really creased. It's much thinner than the others and I think it's synthetic, where they are mostly wool so that may be the cause. Not bad after nine months of folding my clothes, it's the first time I've had to iron something.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. GQ - just a quickie - I bought a little gooseberry bush from Morrys last year, a named variety & its cropped really well so worth a look out. A couple of the leaders had rooted so I passed on 3 cuttings from it too.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Morning all
PollyW I wrap my sewing fabrics around stiff cardboard to store upright so maybe try that.
GQ Its great you can ask for practical gifts isnt it

My niece has insisted on getting me something so I have asked for a jar of local honey.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Belated happy birthday wishes VJSMUM, sending get well wishes to Mavvy ' s dad.
Did my late shift at work yesterday, utter waste of time new manager obviously thought it was a good idea to be open in the centre of town when everyone else is shut
Nipped with hubby early today to get everything for Xmas dinner, M and S as get discount first then to Mr T where we had parked to get veg and potatoes on offer at 39 p ! :j first time I can remember getting a cauli less than a pound at Xmas ! :j
Just made some soup to use up the veg in the fridge for lunch, and put up carefully selected Xmas cards! We get so many only joyful ones are making the cut this year.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Happy Birthday for yesterday VJ's mum. Definitely a weird gadget and I'm sure your sister chose it with pampering you in mind, but I would get rid too.
Mavvy, so sorry to hear about your dad but thank goodness the paramedics stuck with it and you were able to get him to hospital quickly. Fingers crossed for a speedy, full recovery.
Still Kondoing slowly here. The cassette collection which had been taking up a large box plus shelf space for storing said box has been whittled down to 40-50. I am now playing the ones I would like to keep but want to get them down to 30 max so those which are poorer quality recordings are going.
I am enjoying having fewer things because those I am choosing to keep are being used more. I am discovering lots of lovely music amongst the cassettes that I had forgotten about and as I still have cassette players in both the kitchen and sitting room, I am now able to enjoy them again. I am also using more of my clothes now I know what I have.
I'm not as brave as Mavvy and have still sent out Christmas cards and bought presents. I only send cards to people I don't see regularly due to living a distance away and don't give to local people or anyone I give presents to, and I only do 9 presents (two are for families so tend to do a joint one for each family) so it's not too onerous a task.
Actually put a Christmas tree and decorations up this year, first time in 8 years and really enjoyed doing it although wasn't able to put much time/energy into it so won't win any prizes for artistic design. Lovely to have the twinkly lights on though. I need to see if I can get another set of lights working as I like them better than the set I've used on the tree, but if not they'll have to go.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Wort, I love that only the joyful cards make the cut!! I always try to hide the one from oldest SIL, maybe a nice card but can't stand the not-at-all nice SIL!
BIG result today on the DH v Kondo front. Yep, DH has just been found sorting through large pile of garden mags and assorted other reading material that has lain beside the bed for over a year. He has put many into a bag for redistribution, others I have been asked to suggest a suitable location to tidily file (it's a tiny house so I will have to give this some serious thought but I will sort it out!). I can't really believe the magic is transferring
I am happy to report that this morning I Kondo'd my tax return, organised travel ins, made sure the prev house ins didn't auto renew (prev ins, not prev house) and contacted solicitor to arrange to have my redundancy settlement agreement checked over.
After the domestic admin I then made a big tray of my 'special recipe' sausagemeat stuffing to freeze for the big day.
Still more domestic jobs to do today, got to clear them off the list because tomorrow we sre off to MILs to get her house ready for visitors (poor health and impaired eyesight mean it's helpful if we do this). DH will happily join in so I am quite looking forward to it.

I've begun reorganising the kitchen. Thrown away a few bits of OOD food that we would never use and have rehomed the contents of one of our larger cupboards into other cupboards. This will allow me to get my oft used baking supplies out of an awkwardly shaped cupboard - it drives me potty having to pull everything out to get the bits I want. It would make far more sense to use it to keep lesser used bits in. I'm looking forward to clearer as much of my worktop as possible.
2 bits of junk sold on Gumtree. I need to photograph and shoot some more to see if I can make some extra pennies. I can't be bothered with ebay, but Gumtree works well and has proven to be relatively hassle free.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Thanks for the tip, silvasava, I'll be in pursuit of gooseberry bushes early in the New Year.
Am now down by several gifts and a card, with more to leave this week. Hoping not to get too much in return - nothing would be optimal - but we'll see what santa brings me. I'm always polite but if it's not suitable, I shan't stew over it, items can be chazzered in another town where the giver won't have the opportunity to bump into them and have hurt feelings.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

VJ'sMum Belated best wishes for your birthday, glad you had a good one.
mavvymoo hope your Dad is recovering well.
All new Konverts welcome!
I haven't done a lot of positive Kondoing lately, but quite a lot of negative Kondo (i.e. walking round shops looking at Stuff and walking out without buying). I haven't even (yet!) bought any of those Christmas presents which are intended at purchase for someone else, but when it comes to wrapping I decide to keep my self  (has anyone else done this?)
Have had 3 Christmas lunches so far, one more to go on Monday.
The car managed to Kondo an engine part last Tuesday - luckily outside the only garage for the 7 very wet country miles from home. They were so kind and fixed it for me in a couple of hours :T:A
Most Christmas cards kondoed, just a couple which need notes or letters to do.
Tree goes up on Christmas Eve (if at all) with mince pies and a pot of tea while the 9 Lessons and Carols are on the radio. Most of the decs and all the lights are in storage so will probably stay there and I'll do like last year and use the old 1950s one from my Mum's.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️
