I considered scanning photos but decided that then I'd be even less likely to look at them/show them to anyone - the 4000 already on my laptop are testament to that!
When I described my kitchen worktop, I forgot to add the Joseph Joseph stacking bowls. They bring me immense joy and one or other (sieve, colander, measuring cups) are used almost daily.
MMF007 I think you've hit on a key point 'how often do you need to get the wallpaper kit out' - when I Kondoed the kitchen I realised that some of my easiest-to-reach cupboards contained stuff I don't use much. I rearranged it so that the 'prime real estate' holds the everyday stuff. I think when I moved in I just put stuff where it fitted, and we often don't stop to think whether it's the best place or not.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Re photos..
If you will only use if for scanning your photos, could you borrow one rather than buy one VJsmum? Your library may well have one you can use for example, and you can spend the money on something more joyful.
We bought an electronic photo frame rather than have lots of photos on display. TBH we only tend to turn it on when we have guests, but the photos circling subtly in the background often proves a conversation starter.
Decking the halls today and am kondoing unloved decorations as I go. I've decided that I want a new tree (bushier branches for a fuller effect, with a taller but a slimmer design overall). We shall make do with the current one for this season and buy something beautiful at a joyful price in the sales.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I threw away a few dog toys and more will go after the weekend.
I had to cut up a cat blanket as my dog had half chewed it when I was in the loo for about 2 minutes.:D Half of it had to be binned.
All recycling out again today as my Christmas wreath arrived.:T
I was sorting out the airing cupboard and the old pair of curtains can go to recycling along with a few items of clothing. I am getting rid of an old pair of slippers. I bought memory foam slippers and the old pair feel so flimsy in comparison.
I found an old set top box which can go to recycling. I didn't even realise I had kept it but I just found it as I was looking for somewhere to store the summer duvet.
I need to buy new knickers as a pair of mine ripped yesterday and some of them cut me in half as they are so uncomfortable.:rotfl:I might see if I can see a good bargain in the Black Friday sales.0 -
Morning all
Deep joyfulness here we have found a charity shop that more than happy to take the 800+ old videos off us. They will be going later today,
Took 5 bags of stuff to the CS we gift aid to earlier, Christmassy stuff, DVDs, books and a few random bits. She was uber pleased with the tapestry frame and stand as she has a lady waiting for one.
Finished another Christmas paperback last night but I'm saving that for my mum.
Have a joyful weekend all.SPC~12 ot 124

Loving the nicknames for clutter. In my parental home it's a beggar called M.B. Usefull. As is, keeping all sorts of random kipple as it might be useful and using MBUs as a collective noun for this type of stuff.
Trouble is, with crafting and DIY and having grown up poor, just about anything can be filed under MBU.:rotfl:
Had a late and rather worrisome night due to a domestic violence incident at the neighbours' but eventually surfaced and dragged myself out to the allotment. It would have been very easy to lounge around on the sofa but I am so glad I made myself go up there.
I feel much better for an airing, it's presently dry and not too cold, and can see where I've been in respect of weeding done and an IKEYA blue bagful of weeds up to the tip.
Yesterday when I took a large item to the chazzer, I found my target item for Mum & Dad's sitting-room - a matching pair of lampshades for their pendant light-fittings. These had been on my hunting list for about two months and we were on the verge of giving in and buying new ones, but glad I decided to persevere; £3.60 the pair is better than £24 the pair.
I'm feeling all warm and happy after reading about people's kondo-ing successes and, even more importantly, the spreading of help and joy to family and friends.
In a world where there are so many sorrows, being overwhelmed by your possessions can seem a rather self-indulgent first-world problem, but it's nevertheless where we find ourselves.
And, if we can shed our excess to good causes, and free up our time to do something more worthwhile than wrestling with Stuff, who knows how much good we could achieve in the wider world?
If nothing else, by living in a streamlined manner, we minimize the stress and work that others, often others beloved to us, will have to go through one of these days, when we go beyond the reach of amaazon orders and argossy catalogues.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Lovely post GQ
Yes more time to help ourselves and our wider world.
You have my sympathy re neighbours
There is house near me that I've named the Party house
It's a rental place and the people living there atmo are apparently renting short term. There are parties every weekend the poor people that live next door are sick of them. There's taxis turning up all hours to ferry drunks back and forth. Vans that sell drink banging on the door as well as takeaway deliveries
The ones on foot pass my flat they use the bin area as a toilet:(
The drunks last night were laughing and singing at 3am as though it was 3pm! The poor neighbours son is at his parents today he will sort them out....you don't mess with this guy oh no.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

But i wondered if anyone here has gone down the digital world to be paperless and photoless....
If you want to go paperless using a scanner, you need to be organised from the off. Scanning, storing scans and OCRing them in such a way that you can access both the OCR and the original document OCR turns a scan image into a word processor type document, with the right software its very good but not perfect, it is searchable whereas the scan image isn't but anything that isn't clear means going back to the scan to double check or manually verifying every document as you scan it (my approach).
If you are going to scan a lot of documents, it might be worth looking at a multi-function printer with an automatic document feeder (ADF) these tend to be substantial cheaper than ADF scanners. I like the flexibility of a flatbed scanner - I only scan the area I need rather than the whole page. I'd go for a scanner with a 1200dpi resolution - that allows me to enlarge photographs and still get a good quality print, more importantly, find a scanner which offers a good OCR program - my preference is Abbyy Finereader (no connection other than using just about every generation of software they've produced with excellent results).
The other thing that becomes crucial is a proper backup strategy.
We have a couple of digital photoframes, have some large prints of photos we've taken on the walls and the option of displaying photos on the TV and the computers both as desktops and screensavers.
Long but HTH

Anyone bought a scanner to scan photos? I really want to reduce the bulk of these blessed albums as well as other bulk paperwork...
... But i wondered if anyone here has gone down the digital world to be paperless and photoless....
DH uses a multi-function HP printer to scan all his photos from his past travels with his job. He's been able to bin loads. I have some to go through & put into albums, my boys both have their baby albums and I have my mums photos too, which she had written on the back who was who
KM'd 2 bags to the CS this week, I did buy some bits but mostly for presents and a work dress to replace one that didn't sit right (twisted seam). I also found a brand new pair of Caterpillar boots to replace my old Barrats ones which had split - worked out they were around 6 years old and didn't owe me anything!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
