:)Silvasava, I do know what you mean, that feeling that you have become a clearing house for other people's Stuff. From those of us who have achieved The Art of the Woo, much will be asked (and given, lol).

I have that to a degree myself. Some of it I volunteer for, such as stuff from Mum & Dad's, some is unexpectedly thrust upon me from friends and friends' mothers etc.

It's normally done with no notice or prior consultation and there's no really graceful way to refuse. And, unless you think I'm some kind of saint/ hopeless martyr, there is self-interest too, as these sources do produce things which I do really want and use myself.

I guess having some unwanted ballast among the goodies is sort of a pay-off. None of the unwanteds are trash, and they are approximate to my interests, so the giver isn't being random. But with a small home, approximate isn't do-able in many cases, so off they go (very discreetly).

Such an item will be leaving via freecycle tomorrow, I shall not bother to mention that to the giver, of course.

I have designated today as a pottering about day, and will potter into the shopping streets for an errand or two in a while. I also badly need to tidy up, the tabletop, floor and sofa have disappeared (again! :o).

Silvasav, could you suggest to the 'donors' of the cleared out clothing that you would like to make it a collection and take it all to a worthy cause (ask for suggestions so the donors will feel part of it)?

Jinny and gallygirl, I haven't had many broken items that were Justin Case's but I did give some to his dynamic friend, Hugh Gott A-go. He cleared them away in no time!

After doing the mins game in November I have carried on counting in a vague way and have almost reached 100 items. That did include 5 bags of paperbacks but I did not count the books individually on way to CS. DH seems to have caught a mild dose of MK as he keeps giving me random items for CS or recycling.
Slow cooker on with YS pork and veggies. All veggie offcuts, peelings and sadder looking specimens in large pot making vat of veg stock.

I was round a mate's who has a kitchen even smaller than mine. She has two pairs of those beater whisks for hand-held mixers. The ones which fit the present mixer and the ones which only fit the previous defunct and long-gone mixer. It would take about 30 seconds to establish which was which and get rid of the useless ones, but it's 30 seconds she never takes, so wastes time trying to use the wrong ones and having them in the way.

Keys are a terror. There are keys to unknown locks in just about every home.

    1. Key to the front door we replaced in this home.
    2. Key to the back door we replaced in the house we sold in the 1980s.
    3. Key matching the lock we had to have changed because we lost a key to it when our handbag was stolen.
    4. Keys (several) to defunct padlocks and bicycle locks.
    5. Keys to the Tower of London, Fort Knox, our dungeon, the wine cellar, the stable-block and the long-case clock in the baronial hall.*

    * Errrr, we don't actually have keys to any of these places but, golly, those keys look so important, they must be valuable, we better hang onto them.:rotfl:

    Morning all
Stash of papers that may be important for dd1 taken to hers last night.
6ft Christmas tree and set of lights taken to mil this morning, it was our hall tree, but I've put twigs and fairy lights in a vase for ther this year so don't need or want said tree. Mil had asked us to buy one plus lights for her so have Kondoed my excess on to her to clear my space and save her money. instead of using baubles I've suggested she uses her collection of old spangled lace bobbins she no longer uses as baubles. So it's given her something to do.

Loving the names for the excess & and reasons for their hanging around.

    Have a joyful Sunday all

  • I've ground to a halt here with the clearing out,RL just isn't playing at the moment. But on the positive side everywhere I have done is still tidy and housework takes half the time!
I am going on a cs rummage tomorrow to see if I can find anymore clothes to spark joy as I really still don't have very many after my huge clear out. Something's like tops it will be one in one out but other things I really need more of.
Good to see everyone's still Kondoing, I will be back joining you when life goes away and gives me peace ;)

I seem to have gone off the rails big style. Think I have been too wrapped up with not having money for bills never mind Xmas to realise there is a lot more to life. Dd1 has gone out with friend shopping, she has been allowed to take the cash she would get from her aunties for Xmas to pick up things. She only Suss out that she was allowed to buy one big thing rather than smaller ones! Dd2 has requested that we do something that does not involve tidying up or watching TV all day! I have a ton to do and really need to get on top of the house so it will be interesting!

Not caught up with the thread yet but will do over a brew later. This year we have gone for cheap advent calendars and are doing are own. Some days it will literally be a chocolate but others are baking, movie night in, face mask night, going the library (in midst of brownie badge for book lover and keep meaning to go) etc. what I did do though which I thought was a bit cunning was to put a today's job section on. This will be a tidying up/ sorting task that we will do together. Thinking along the lines of going through the pencil drawer, doing the tin cupboard, etc. Hopefully means we can spend time together and when we break up for the hols we can keep the momentum up!

Went to an Xmas fair and got rid of some of my craft things so pleased with that. Youngest came, she was really helpful and had a few goes on toy tombola. She was after a monkey, it was left at the end so the lady came over and gave it her for being so helpful for me! She was really chuffed. I 'paid' her too as she kept checking my kids rings out with that hopeful watchful look in her eye. She would never ask, not because she was scared but knew we were selling them to make money. I told her to get one if she wanted and her face lit up. Love moments like this.

Well successfully kondoed all stuff for tax return into large envelope to drop off at accountants tomorrow. Feeling very virtuous as I also filed all the original documents back in the filing drawer in correct sections. Have only half a drawer now and some of that can go in loft to keep for 7 years once this years Assessment confirmed. DH has most of the household paperwork in his man cave but I think we may be able to Kondo some of that after Christmas along with contents of one end of loft. DS Has asked me to store some electrical bits of his in loft - we do have space in sorted end so guess that will arrive soon.

Still got lots of papers and photos to go but there is space to sort and store what is really needed or joyful.

Just ate the pork stew from slow cooker which was delicious. DH has made coffee and walnut ice cream which I am looking forward to.

  • I've had a most successful weekend of kondo-ing. Three big bags of clothes and oddments to the CS along with a hiking rucksack and a shoe rack.
I haven't used the hiking rucksack (80 litres) in about 11 years, I reckon. I had wistful thoughts that I might use it when I go backpacking through Asia. Well I can't afford to go to Asia, and if I did go I wouldn't be hauling 80 litres of carp around with me!
An Ike-ear bag of assorted stuff also went off to the tip.

I've also kondoed a ridiculous amount of ice out of the ice box in the fridge. I hate fridges with iceboxes in them. Neither use nor ornament as you can't keep frozen food in them and they just end up full of ice.

And a variety of old veg has gone into the soup pot to make veg soup so I've kondoed most of my lunch prep for the week!

Right, need to shut this laptop down and dust and hoover the lounge.
