I've finally got round to unsubscribing from emails and it is really starting to make a difference - so much less to deal with in my mailbox which means less time spent on it.
3 more pairs of shoes, a linen suit, a fridge magnet and a children's playmat into the CS pile. My mum is here and we've been rearranging furniture and doing some clearing up in preparation for whenever the builder comes back (and working out whether we need to move rooms round - we don't), and it's been useful having another pair of eyes.
I sorted out my bedroom a few weeks ago, removed one piece of furniture and moved another - it made a huge different. Kids room has been reorganised and not only is it much better (although I need to do some sorting out of pictures) but it has freed up a bedside table to replace the chair I had on one side of my bed. Another significant improvement, so I need to think carefully about what I keep in it (probably hand/foot cream, body lotion, manicure stuff etc that I tend to forget to put back in the bathroom so clearly belong in the bedroom).
Various other rearrangements have also made a bit more space in the garage (chairs returned by my brother are back in the roof) and sitting room (cabinet taken into kitchen to temporarily house the cookbooks made homeless by putting the bookcase in the kids' room).
Furniture seems to circulate constantly, but hopefully it'll eventually find the right place!
Airline amenity packs and lots of airline toothbrushes etc. are in a pile - I want to check whether homeless charities will take them (rather than just the socks) and if so will add some of the hotel toiletries that occasionally end up in my washbag (TBH if they will take them, I'll probably make an effort to pick up whatever I can fit in from now on).0 -
Sending hugs Iqueen
As I've already posted my kitchen counters, will only quick recap.
Compost caddy kettle microwave 3 T caddies bread bin ceramic wash up liquid container which holds the sponge too and fruit basket.
I put my knives in the wide drawer which has my other cutlery in. I found it was no different to having them in the block (which I kept for a week or 2 just to see if I was happy y with knives in the drawer) I threw the block away last week :T
Also the tassimo coffee machine is fine in the cupboard.
My toaster has always been kept in the cupboard on a tray it easily slides in and out, and I use it at least once sometimes twice a day. As I'm coeliac and find the glutenfree bread is much nicer if toasted. :rotfl:
Been busy with work this week may have a tidy tomorrow.
Have a great dayFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -

Locally to me I have several options for such goodies:- the homeless shelters - all toiletries
- foodbank (def toothbrushes and things like the deodorants in some airline goody bags)
- baby bank (like foodbank but donates clothes/ toiletries/ nappies/ nursery items to families in crisis)
- the 'geriatric' wards at the hospital (probably a non PC term now - sorry:o - when my granddad died there they said they were always on the lookout for toiletries (hotel sized ones were particularly good) for those elderly people who didn't have anyone to visit and bring them things
- and they can be in there for a very long time
- the local collection point for the OPeration Christmas Child shoeboxes - they take toothbrushes/ paste/ soap/ small (hotel) bottles of lotion etc/ the hairbrushes

Oh the joys of insomnia!
I woke up thinking it was about 5am but it's only 1:30am
Had a cuppa as that usually settles me.
I only wish I lived near IQUEEN I could be round there helping her.
Although nocturnal Kondoing isn't exactly a quiet activity.
My elderly neighbour from The floor below used to start her housework at 4am. It didn't bother me that much as I go to bed soon and didn't need to get up for work.
The young man from the flat below her didn't mind either as he started work really early. Weekends he was just usually coming in from a night on the lash!
Right lets see if I can kondo this insomnia and get back to sleep.
Nighty night;)”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

Update on kitchen - toaster now in cupboard underneath counter - need to re-organise cupboard.
OH invoices in different place, much tidier. Looking at the rest of the paperwork and deciding how most of it can be relocated (regularly gone through and discarded), but I do need it somewhere near.
Still on the 'winter projects' list two cupboards that need major sorting, hopefully the relocated paperwork will end up there.
Just love this thread, it is so easy to keep everything 'as it always has been', but it is so good to give stuff a rethink 'out of the box'.
Take care everyone. H.0 -
IQueen I also need to use my stick frequently, usually only outside. If my flat was bigger I'd probably need it inside too. Like yourself, health has been a huge reason for me to simplify my living space.
I'm doing a bit better atm and have visitors this evening. Still trying to find more things to go but finding it hard. It all builds up though so I will continue pottering. I'm so glad I've been skint since leaving uni, far fewer items to begin with!:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
IQueen, so sorry to hear you've been unwell - as you say, it's given some impetus to your Kondoing, life is simpler all round when there's less clutter. Wish I was close enough to help, but then again it's the decision-making that only you can do. I hope you're soon feeling better.
Yesterday I was treated to a day at the Good Food Show as a belated birthday present. I had a great day hoovering up free samples, but I didn't want to buy anything. The friends I was with bought loads of stuff, I'm sure it's destined for Christmas presents but I was amazed at how much they spent. I did buy a bargain offer of cheese, with a free mug or slate cheeseboard. Me: 'No thanks, I don't want the free gift'. Friend: 'But it's free!' Me: 'yes, but I don't need a mug or a cheeseboard' Friend: 'Well take it, anyway - I'll have it if you don't want it'.
So she now has two slate cheeseboards .. in a house that's already full of Stuff! Pre MK, I'm sure I'd have done the same.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I must admit, I am still guilty of taking any freebies - I have been donating them to tombola stalls/ charity shop etc if they are not my 'thing'

Can't believe how much of a difference unsubscribing from emails has made, even though it is less than a week since I started!
Was waiting for the DW to finish this morning before setting off on a long drive, so managed to clear all the personal filing in my office, pay the window cleaner and check my online banking. I have a LOT of stuff to take to the CS, but the car was full of 2 wheels with winter tyres on that my brother is kondoing to my dad...
I've swapped some towels with my mum as my new bathroom matches some of hers, and myself new bathroom matches mine. Much better than buying new ones (I don't like new towels!)0
