Lots of great progress being made by you all. OH has gone out and I don't need to be anywhere until 2:30, so the question is do I tackle trousers or shoes? Shoes are in the biggest muddle as summer(y) ones need a wipe over and be stuffed with tissue and put away, this would leave my bedroom a lot tidier, but by trying on my winter trousers I will probably have more things to leave the house for the CS (:( because I love several pairs, but unintentional weight loss means they are too big, tempted to store them for another winter, but I could afford to replace them if I put weight back on so perhaps I need to just be strong:))The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Grotty day today - someone let their dog foul my front door mat and my friend didn't notice when she came round so it got trodden all up my hall carpet - it wasn't 'solid' enough to pick up outside so DH has hosed it away - grrrrr. Decided to check if my Hotpoint tumble drier was OK but its a model on their list so will need a visit from an engineer - then the postman came with a letter from a longtime friend to say her DH died last week.
( it certainly put my niggles into perspective.

Silvasava dog muck would annoy me as well GRR irresponsible people who don't pick up.
So sorry to read about your friends sad loss, yes reading that does put life into perspective.

Gallygirl, it worked - veni, vedi, vici!. Nothing bought in John L today! Well my friend bought a vac, as per mission, i kept my purse firmly shut! :T
Paid work tomorrow, 3 long days in fact, so reality is kondo-ing more or less on hold til Saturday.
MI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I've really felt KM working its magic on me today, despite being quite under the weather.
* I've been able to let go of a number of Justin Case items that have survived many previous purges.
* I see glimmers of hope that OH is coming on board with the KM idea. He is a bit of a squirrel. Whilst he is pretty good at putting things away, putting things away tidily or in anything resembling an organised fashion seems to be completely beyond him. In the interests of a harmonious life, I turn a blind eye to his clothes and man junk, but need systems in place (one clear place for everything and everything in its place) elsewhere in our home.
* the more I declutter, the clearer my vision for how I want to decorate our home in 2016 becomes.
* I had an epiphany in the kitchen earlier, and have realised that we are making inefficient use of our storage space. I am now itching to kondo and organise the room, but it will have to wait until the Christmas hols when I can do it justice. My cunning plan should make it feel like we have more storage space, and I hope I can free up enough workable space to get lesser used appliances off of the counter top and into cupboards to create a more streamlined look.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Morning, all. Pavlovsdog, one of the little things that's made a big difference to me is moving stuff off the worktop and into cupboards. Tea, coffee and sugar now fit into the mug cupboard; the compost caddy is under the sink, and as soon as I've used up some cleaning products, the washing-up liquid and antibacterial spray are joining it. I only have my beloved stand mixer (used frequently), the kettle and a jar of wooden spoons etc out - it's fabulous to see a clean sweep of worktop.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. The subject of what's kept on worktops is a good one. On mine I have a microwave (with a plain purple glass jug on top, so I can't dump stuff on there (was a previous hotspot)), a toaster (on a plain wooden tray, so crumbs are contained!), the kettle, tea/ coffee/ sugar jars (Jamie Oliver clip top clear glass ones with pink and blue lids), a Tupperware container of filter coffee (will be used up over Xmas and not replaced), the biscuit jar (clear glass), my funky brightly coloured notebook (stands up between biscuits and coffee), my purple kitchenaid (which I loooove and use lots - and it's too heavy to move in and out of a cupboard even if I didn't!!), the coffee pod machine and a box of pods, the knife block, kitchen towel on a wooden stand up holder and a jar of wooden spoons/ spatulas etc. It sounds loads, but all (barring the filter coffee) is used every/ most day - and I do have a lot of worktop, so I can 'get away' with it, to some degree -that lot is very spaced out, and there's still a lot of clear space.
On my sink windowsill I have the compost caddy (lilac - had to choose a pretty one if it was on display!), washing up liquid, hand soap, a nailbrush (and currently 2 items waiting to be glued) When I've used up some cleaning products I was looking to relocate wul to the cupboard - hadn't thought of the caddy - good idea - but major space needed before I can do that! Oh - and a vase of greenery from the garden
My cloth and scourer live in the 'half sink' bit and then the cloth gets chucked in the WM nightly, along with that day's tea towel(s)
My other windowsill has a scary 'to do' pile of paperwork on - which is one of my ongoing tasks - and an aloe vera plant in a ceramic pot.
I get torn between having ultra clear worktops and the 'hassle' of getting stuff out. Would probably easily adapt to tea/ coffee/ sugar being away - am KMing the kitchen again when we have it re-done early next year.
Just wondering what other people have out?

Just wondering what other people have out?
the only things that should be out in our house (OH take note)!
* toaster
* kettle
* microwave
* breadbin
* coffee percolator
* stand mixer
* knife block
* fruit bowl
* kitchen roll holder
I have already managed to get the cooking utensil pot out of sight thanks to a previous rejig of the junk drawer (now utensil drawer). The christmas kondo and re-jig should let me get the coffee percolator out of sight. I am thinking of getting an in drawer knife block to clear that part of the counter. I'd like to get the toaster out of sight, but I don't think it is likely - a crumb tray could be a workable compromise.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Has certainly made me think about what I have out and is it all necessary?
So, currently have an old fashioned type enamel bread bin in front of which stands the wooden bread board.
Next to that is the toaster, then kettle, water filter and caffitiere all of which are used every day. I took the decision a while back to de-clutter the tea, coffee canisters so all these packets etc are in a cupboard. DOH coffee machine is tucked away in a little alcove under a shelf but he has agreed this can go as we always use the caffitiere now. So that's what is on the main work surface, on one of the smaller ones stands the fruit bowl, knife block and trivet. On the other is the microwave, with the DAB radio on top with my shopping notebook. Next to the sink there is a small flowerpot holder that I use to keep washing up liquid and cloth in, don't have a dishwasher so that need to be out, and the small compost bin.
Next to the cooker is a utensil jar and salt cellar. Finally don't really have a windowsill as such but it's just wide enough to hold a nail brush and hand cream.
Guess it's more than some folk would like but I keep it tidy and do like a homely, country kitchen look so suits me fine0 -
I feel a huge attic kondo coming on this weekend! We heard a rodent in the attic, and were not too bothered, but today I found that it had eaten half a kilo of st nicolas biscuits I had hidden there! No wonder it was running like a maniac two nights ago!
