Hello 1Tonsil! Delurking here
My windowsill in my office is currently full of DVD and CD cases that are going in the bin tomorrow evening, after the last bag has gone in. - - -
I'd love to do categories, get it all together in one place and sort through, but I can't do that. I *have* done an awful lot of ordinary decluttering, so one day, maybe ... in the meantitme, I'll glory in the group accomplishments
DVDs and CDs are two categories on their own. :j I've Kondoed the whole house over time, now doing the second round (or third for some categories). Once you have done the first time round, the second is so much easier - it's more of the "what I want to keep or get rid of now" than "starting from the beginning" and it's also much easier to be brutal when you have experienced the initial hit and dealt with "oooh but I might need it one day" and later on "actually I never missed those items I got rid of before".... I intend to keep using category Kondo - if there is one item I know I can get rid of, it's time to do the whole lot again.0 -

One activity I Kondoed is not popping into the £1 shop today
Wednesday is my shopping day.
I make a flexible menu and fashion a shopping list based on that.
I knew I didn't need anything in £1 shop
So to save at least 15 minutes stopped myself from having a wander around. Doesn't seem much but I was able to get an earlier bus home.
What time has anyone else saved by being mindful
and not wasted due to kondoing an unnessary activity.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Success! DH has removed 12 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of summer trousers, 9 shirts, and 1 sweater from his wardrobe! They are now in the attic, waiting to be sent to Africa, where he has many relatives. We have another five boxes waiting to be sent..... At least they are out of sight, and sometimes I cull them and give stuff to the secondhand store. The boxes have been there for four years, and are likely to be there for a few more...Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

Welcome all newbies,
I do still send family Xmas cards, but no longer send birthday and anniversary cards, then in December I give a donation to charity. At work I give donation to store charity and just pop 1 card to the whole store on the notice board, I always tell people not to send me a card! I have a big family and haven't got room anyway!
I'm already trying to think of where to put the Xmas cards, they seem to clutter everywhere!:rotfl:
Tomorrow I'm going to the ideal home Xmas event with my sister and nieces, I will see how my buying restraint is holding up!
Mrs moneypenny lovely idea about the cushions for mil at least you know they will be used.
Thanks selement, reminding me of eBay as we have dgsons old bike in garage would be timely to put on the bay ready for Xmas buying.:TFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Well I had the opposite of saving time. Was going to get dad a taxi to the airport but in the end I decided to take him myself (managed to arrange a long lunch hour, made time up this evening!). But, having checked the airport website for tips on dropping off passengers etc, before going we got almost there to find a ' road closed' notice (planned maintenance, not emergency) and had a detour of at least 10 miles...... thankfully I had allowed plenty of time and he got there ok. If I'd booked a taxi they would have known about the road closure and he'd have had a less stressful journey!! Anyway he rang to say he got home safely, so all is well.
I did a pre-emptive kondo today, resisted buying a couple of very pretty storage tins and another nice kitchen accessory. I reasoned with my self, nice but don't need, and also, nice but will take up space that is in short supply in this little house
I was pleased that I could exercise the KM discipline and, guess what, that little victory brought me joy :T
Welcome de-lurkers, come in, join us for a coffee and a chat :coffee::coffee:

Like you Jinny, I try not to go shopping as often - it saves money and time. I've got much better at menu planning and this month I'm trying to 'shop' from the freezer after I did an inventory.
I can't really count it, but I am sure I've saved time in not hunting for missing paperwork and trying to find the right home for the filing.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Thank you for the welcome! Pennystretcher is right, I've done a massive amount on DVDs and books, even if its over a long period of time. I had 8 full height bookcases in my last house (I was sidling around the furniture
) and now I have two, that's it. And by the time I retire next year, there'll just be one. DVDs that I want to keep go in those paper covers and into a cardboard box fitted for them (from Wilko, all of £2). Most photos have been done too - the physical photos are in a big tin, I've always refused offers of albums
and since I got a digital camera, photos are now on the laptop only.
I've had one go with the clothes, but I know I kept lots and lots that should be making their way out of the door.
I had one thought about bath and hand towels, oddlyI'm going to start using the same ones as much as possible - until now, I've always tried to wear them out equally, but I've just realised thats not really helpful. I need three hand towels and a bath towel - I might even rearrange the airing cupboard to take account of that!
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I did that with a couple of bath towels, Karmacat, and it took years to wear them up. They are now hemmed rags in the undersink cupboard, used when washing and drying floors.
It's a good idea as otherwise you always have a cupboard full of part-worn towels. I am presently concentrating wear and tear on a few items of each type linen, with the intention of using them up and then moving on to the next and so on, until I end up with a much reduced inventory. It all fits into one 20 inch wide airing cupboard, btw, but is still in excess of present needs.
In case you're wondering why I don't just hiff these items out to the c.s., it's because I think they'd rag them (sides-to-middled sheets etc) so prefer to use them up myself until the definately are rags, and then donate them as such.:rotfl:
Was lying in bed thinking about my kondo-ing before getting up today (as you do) and came to the conclusion that the thing which irritates me the most about my living space is my very bad habit of having bits of paper all over the desk, the small box which serves as the coffee table, and the table itself.
These areas collectively are quite small spaces but every surface in a tiny home needs to be usable and, frankly, it just looks soooooo bad.
After work, I shall have a good session, make a clean start, and attempt to form new habits to stop the problem recurring. Wish me luck!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning all
Hope all are well
Won't have time for any kondoing as I'm busy all day,
I do love Christmas and can't wait to get the deccys down, but in being far more thoughtful about what I'm getting people this year. Dh always goes down the I'm not seeming cards at work but giving money to a charity, but he still comes home with loads despite requesting none. He's even had an email sent round and a request on the notice board in the past suggesting people all ignore cards and donate to a good cause. But he got told he was being humbug!
Need to nip down the market before work as I'm out of eggs and baking potatoes.
Better go and do something, have a joyful day all.SPC~12 ot 124
