  • Selement hi, and welcome :) the mins game comes from the minimalists website/blog. It's getting rid of clutter by day of the month - 1 on the first, 2 on the second etc.

I only got up to day 15 in Oct :( pretty sure there's more could go. Maybe I should set a different target, possibly 7 or 14 things a week?

Failing at kondoing atm. Real life and health have not been cooperative recently. Kondo'd areas have been seeming to start tidy pretty easily :) I'll take that

Experience type gifts pd, afternoon tea, facial, whatever works for you.

I would be thrilled with this type of gift, but unfortunately most of my lot subscribe to the school of thought that a gift must be something in a box which you can wrap and put under the tree.

I *adore* Christmas but feel the shopping side of it has just gotten too big. I hate the 'here's X pounds worth of gifts in exchange for you spending the same on me'. I haven't spent all of the money I was given last Christmas and for my birthday (September) yet. The whole thing has just gotten out of control.

We have both given & received vouchers (home-made or commercial) that have been put into a box, wrapped & put under the tree.

We have also put a financial limit on gifts and cut out gifts for adults (apart from my kids), but we do give produce gifts to family & friends (wine, jam or chutney from allotment produce, h/m beer or truffles etc). Those helped change the focus of what we gave & received from monetary value to usefulness or experience.

  • Morning all
    Hope all are well
Thinking of doing another load of stockings, to use more stash up, I know I have enough and enjoyed doing them. I'm dinner lady for one class but do all my extra hours in another one with a designated child. For obvious reasons it would be inappropriate to single one child out for a gift so if I wanted to do a stocking for the child in that class I work with I would need to do them for the whole class. My thinking is a child will like the novelty of the stocking and the chocolate they get inside it and some of the parents have commented they still have the stocking their older child got when they were in 'my' class, so I know some are kept and reused every year, where a card would just get throw in the recycling. Quandary is that next Christmas the class I do the extra work in will be my lunchtime class. So they'll end up with two stockings. Still I suppose I could start early next year and knit them one each so they are different. I'm also crocheting snowflakes for the tree in the corridor. My stash supplies need using up so I'm looking for projects. lol
Re presents, this year we are mostly sorted in woo gifts, ds1 had said earlier in the year he wanted us to go to caro emerald with him he's got the tickets if we supply the transport. So I told him that can be our Christmas pressie, then all the kids sprung the photo shoot on us so that is a groups gift from all of them that we will treasure. Eldest dd is quite definately about what she likes and doesn't like and picked a cardi for her birthday and canvases for Christmas. The boys are still at the gaming gadgets and books age, dd3 wants a fitness DVD and dd2 and her family I think are going to be gifts for children and hamper/money for her and her partner,
Mil is quite set in the you have to give her something to unwrap - which I find tucked in the wardrobe still in its gifted bag months later! She always asks for the dairy diary gift pack, but then buys one of the ringtons teaman as he guilts her into it. (I've suggested she uses that as a gift for one of her friends this year to save it going to waste) she mentioned she was thinking of buying new cushions but they are so dear so I've got some lovely fabric and will use some cushion pads I've had in my stash to make her new ones. We will probably get her one of the photos from the session as well.

better get ds2 shifted off to school then I can get cutting out and sewing knitting together.

    Have a joyful day all

  • Yesterday was a bit busy, so here is my Min's Game tally:

    Day 10
    - ten magazines.

I used a "commercial break" in the evening to start going through the basket of "recent magazines" on my coffee table. Wow! what a rich seam of komono :D. The 10 magazines presented themselves quite quickly, most of them were the quarterly offerings from a charity I support. But although they might have been "recent" when they were put into the basket, they actually dated back to 2013:eek:

I really have to wonder what it is that makes me think I have to read all these things from cover to cover - am I afraid of missing something (and if so, what?), or do I think there is going to be an exam on it?

    :rotfl: love that.
Dh saved me from a book last month, I was reading and he asked if it was good.
No not really I said but I've started now and it might get better.
What if it doesn't? You could be reading one you'll enjoy or do something else.
My life will not be better or worse for knowing or not knowing how that particular book ended so it went to the CS in the hope whoever buys it next will get more joy for it than I did.

Finally surfaced after 2 full days of photo kondo!:eek:
I thought I was quite sorted as they were mostly in albums ,but after I had been through all the albums to get rid of duplicates blurred and no good photos, I then had to rearrange all the albums :(

I worked on them from 10 am yesterday till 12. Midnight then from 10.30 this morning till 8 PM with just 15 min meal breaks!

So worth it though, huge bin bag of photos gone, several piles to hand to family to see if they want any. All others are neatly stacked in albums with dates on the spines,on the top shelf of the wardrobe :j
    I have 14 empty albums! !

Sorry to hear you had boiler probem Mavvymoo hopefully you are due a run of good luck now !

wort - you deserve a medal for that. How beautifully organised your photos must be. I haven't put anything in an album for 15 years or more  I just have heaps of photos either in their envelopes or in Tupperware boxes. Worse still a lot of them have got mixed up. I haven't even put my wedding photos in an album from 10 years ago. Absolutely dreading the photos category. Think it will be worse for me than paperwork which is next on my list.

Your comment about facing an exam on the contents of your magazines is so funny :rotfl:

The coffee table basket yields more "treasures":

    Day 11:
    1 free newspaper
    2-6 five catalogues
    7-10 four magazines
    11 uncountable magazine inserts

I have decided that, if there is going to be an exam, I'll get my Mum to send a note saying I'm sick and can't go in. :rotfl:

Congratulations to everyone who has tackled/is tackling photos - I'm dreading it.

Hello everyone, I hope its okay to join this thread. I have been clearing clutter from my life for some time , but have just discovered this book and method. It inspires me and so do your posts. Well done everyone.

It gives me joy to get rid of stuff that seems to accumulate. Unfortunately my husband seems to buy gadgets and keeps all manner of stuff just in case it will come in handy sometime. It drives me crazy when the house is cluttered, and its a big old house!

I have just used her method to clear my wardrobe and drawers. It now looks great and I folded or rolled everything so I can see things easily. I am trying to encourage my other half to do his clothes, I swear he still has things from the eighties in there!

I must admit, I cant do one category of stuff at once. I like to do a few items each day and not have the huge pile of stuff together, which only makes me feel disheartened and nervous . Does anyone else feel the same?
