    Thanks but it's right
If it's a 'what if' item
    It should really go

My dad was like that I think a lot of them were
Years ago. If it could be fixed you saved it.

I've waited in all day for a fridge to be delivered
Been without one for two days.
I'm not to happy about the customer service
and was fobbed off with lies about it how was on the way

Just had my sons laughing at us not having a fridge until the mid sixties
They couldn't believe we put stuff on the cold shelf in the pantry
It was concrete with a marble top
The milk was left on the step by a milkman.
The groceries were kept in a kitchen cabinet those with a pull down drawer

    Put on some lipstick
    and pull yourself together”

  • Oh lor' yes, the kitchen cabinet! So much storage in so little space!
Mum's had 3 shelves in the top double-doored cupboard, which held the daily crockery and a lot of food, a slate work-top where the scales lived, and under that a two shelf cupboard which took care of the pans and mixing bowls and casseroles, and beside the cupboard the other half of the lower section had 3 drawers - cutlery, cook-books & rolling pin etc, and cake and loaf tins. The big roaster and the preserving pan lived on top of the unit.

Our parents were frugal and "green" from necessity, and I think they also enjoyed the challenge of making something from next to nothing.

I think a lot of things actually keep better in a cold pantry than in a fridge, they recommend not keeping eggs, cheese and tomatoes in a fridge but in modern kitchens there's nowhere else to keep them cool.

Anyway, I hope your fridge arrives soon and makes up for its late arrival by being very joyful!

    Goodnight, All!

  • Yarn stash... Yes I have one of those. I'm using up the less good stuff atm and can justify it - needs to be machine washable ;)

I probably should start using up the nicer things, I must!

Spent part of this evening washing Lego. Noone in my family to use them so going to a friend of a friend for their kids. Will be a v long process but some will be going tomoz so counting that as a win. It's some of the stuff from my mum's house that I'm trying to kondo. Difficult at a distance! In fairness, there's enough of my carp there to sort, she isn't too bad although that house has everything you can think of, but only one, no multiples.

I'll keep pecking away at things :) good night lovelies

Will post my mins game later. Just caught up with the thread, can't believe so mush has happened in a week, birthdays, car probs, good and sad events. Hugs of warmth or hugs of joy to everyone!

Both mine are at parties today.. This would sound like some me time but as they are at different times I just end up being a taxi! I hate buying the presents for kids party though. If you ask for ideas they seem vague and then how much do you spend? I tend to spend more on dd1 bff as they have been close since start of school and they always take her places. Whatever happens I will be kondoing some money!

  • I've never actually owned any Lego, but I just wondered Dragonette if you could put it through the dishwasher, if you have one? You'd have to put it in one of those washing bags but it might be quicker. My friend used to buy her kids toys at boot sales and then put them through the dishwasher.

Jinny, I think we were all with you on the rubber gloves - several thousand posts ago I was debating the merits of saving plastic champagne glasses until I recognised that they're meant to be disposable. As BlueDogggy so succinctly puts it, keeping such things is what got me where I am! Each to their own and for some of us it's worth keeping things.

We had a fridge but my mother also still possessed -and used - a meat safe. It was a little wooden crate covered in fine mesh, so you could keep meat in it without flies getting in, she kept the meat in the fridge and put other stuff in the meat safe but it dated from her marriage in 1947.
She never kept eggs in the fridge, and neither do I.

Isn't this thread fascinating, we learn all sorts of new things apart from MK!

Today I am off, I have brother and some sisters coming for drinks tonight, but I only need to do a swif and mop of the floor later.Sooo. .........

    I'm going in the loft!!
Inspired by the great loft goer extraordinaire! We've only been in this house around 14 years so there isn't huge amount up there, just can't remember what is! The garage is our biggest dumping ground  whoops storage facility.

Have a great weekend going to get togged up .:T

    Ooh kids parties
    I remember those
Mind we had an unwritten rule amongst mums n dads
That no more than a £2 gift it was the eighties so Stuff was cheaper
However a lot were out of work so my lads and a friend or too
would be took out somewhere for a treat.
Lads are hard to by for though anyway.

My great nieces go to the most extravagant parties
    Held in themed adventure places
    Must cost a bomb

There's far too much pressure on parents to
Follow the crowd. Then there is the outfits to buy
    To wear.
I was told about one of these do's they went to
There was an adult buffet table for parents
As well as the kids frozen themed table

The Entertainer was a singer! Plus a
    Karaoke and dance competition
And a pass the parcel game that got a bit out of hand
    oh come on ridiculous!

Ps: forgot to say the birthday girl, her parents and close friends were taken to the party in a stretch limo !!!!! Tacky or what

  • Polly thank you, sadly I don't have a dishwasher. My kitchen has so little space the the freezer is in the hallway. I did consider the washing machine but was a bit concerned that all the movement would damage them. I'll just need to be patient.

I am preferring the clearer unit tops, will wait a little longer before buying more storage tho, feels v odd to buying furniture as I already have loads.

Will be a gentle day for me again. I will kondo something today, it's almost addictive lol

Jinny, I also wear the same clothes often and for years ( iykwim). My small niece is the only one who has commented to my face! When I visited her house she looked me up and down and said, 'Auntie M, you were wearing that top last time you came.' I agreed and congratulated her on both memory and observational skills. :)

My DH made a consious decision not to buy any new shirts and ties at least 18 months before he gave up office work and he took great pleasure in mentioning the reason why as he counted down the days to becoming self-employed!

I did make good progress on kondo-ing clothes but will re-visit. It is my hardest category and I know that is because I am not happy with my wardrobe, too many random items, bought when
needs must rather than being carefully chosen, and not all fit (another thing to de-clutter, excess weight! Hmmm, imagine if MK wrote a joyful weight loss book..)

Oh, if only she would :o

    Morning All!

Painfree night, and still pretty OK now! Small things bring joy! :j

Oh, jinny, I am SO with you on all those pseudo-celeb celebrations that go on these days! So sad! I think KISS is much more fun! :D

Good tip for left-handed (or the otherway round for the 'cack-handed' :D) is a step too far for me... frugality can get too close to miserly, at some point! :rotfl:

Love the nostalgic look back to our (or our parents') basic kitchens. My 50's kitchen started with one of those cabinets, when I moved in, 26 years ago - strapped for cash, I bought one s/h for just a couple of quid. Now, I have a nice base unit, that I bought and assembled, but the matching wall unit is still boxed, buried in the Room of Doom! A joyful addition to look forward to, after kondoing is finished! :o

Thanks for the heads-up, Min-to-Max, re the kitchen clock! I have a pine one. A free gift from the Littlew00ds mail order catalogue 30 years ago... it has been needing a new battery for nearly 20 years, and rarely got changed forward or back, even when it was working! CS box TODAY! :j

Thanks too, for the Rucksack Project yarn advice, mrs-moneypenny and greenbee! Also, knitted acrylic underwear (eg simple tank vest) is better than no underwear at all, and is quickly washed and dried. ;)

I'm busy using up acrylic for GD1's arrival in a couple of weeks, or so... 800g+ kondoed, so far. Also, DD3 (Mum-to-be) has ordered matching socks for herself, partner and GD1, for Chr******!

Shame you kondoed the food colouring, mrs-mp, I have a small boxfull (probably OOD) that I use to microwave dye my pure wool handspun. Silver grey wool takes the colours beautifully, giving a muted 'natural dye' effect. :)

Right, that bl**dy clock, and an eagle-eyed trip round the house, noticing other 'fixtures' that can join it! Then I shall be kondoing more yarn, bonnet-knitting!

ps: Didn't, Mavvymoo, on the East coast, have a 'lame' pottery cart-horse, in her garage? :rotfl:
