Such a lovely coat Mav - too big for me though :(

Managed quite a bit of kondoing today - the surplus pillow slips went to the CS - all 27 of them!! and I didn't count the ones I'd given them for the rag bag. I also managed a set of playing cards, 3 photo frames and a fair amount of costume jewellery that I havn't worn for at least 10 years. It hasn't made much of a dent but I feel I've at least achieved something.

I Kondoed the ironing pile this morning, and now the 30+year old alarm box from the front and have a shiny new system with bells and lights back and front. Also because we have a rule where every time we go in the attic we are supposed to bring a piece of junk down another doll from my childhood is being Kondoed.

  • So glad you enjoyed your birthday, iQueen!

This is such a lovely, friendly thread! :A it's very joyful to read about everyone's hard work on the Kondo and Min's fronts.

    Here's my Min's for today:

    Day 4:
    - 3 foam ear plugs (bought to use when running the garden shredder, but since I haven't used it for a couple of years they had died in storage)
    - catalogue
    - cobbles - 2 bags & 1 bucket of - recycled from previous garden projects (containers kept for future use)
    - old aluminium egg poacher

I saw a lovely jacket yesterday - my size and a lovely fit*, a beautiful colour, and the style I like, in a boucl! fabric. Then I remembered the lists of coats we made a couple of months ago, and realised that I don't actually need another. So, Dear Readers, I didn't buy it!

(* because I'm not very tall, I frequently find that the sleeves of coats and jackets - in particular - look on me as though made for an Orang-Utan :rotfl:)

I sympathise with mum, she has not had an easy life and was diagnosed with a
very serious medical condition last year. While I cannot change either of those things for her, I do think I could help make life a bit easier if the excess clutter that does not bring any joy was removed, making the joyful (and the necessary, whether joyful or not), so much easier to find, use, clean, etc.

It almost strikes me, as I think while typing, that the unjoyful set up is like a punishment she is inflicting on herself (or has it now become a sort of last
ditch hold on power - 'It's my stuff and I can do what I like with it' ??). It makes me very sad either way.
This really resonates with me. I grew up in house stuffed with 'stuff', to the extent that no one could properly use the cupboards or wardrobes, or come to that the entire front room. Mum's home was bombed during WWII and afterwards stuff became her safety blanket/hobby/comforter. Sadly we never persuaded her to release her hold and when she passed away we had to plough our way through several decades of detritus to find her (non existent) will.

I'm loving this thread, have bought and read the book and am finding it very liberating. Things are being re-homed much faster than they came in. I thought I had resisted the clutter bug but, apart from the clutter I had accumulated but stopped really seeing, there are several boxes of memorabilia from Mum's home and all those (unlabelled) photos...:o I don't want the smell of mildew to be the scent that gives my grandchildren flashbacks to Nanny's House.

:) Grinning at how many of us have/ had elephants. Occasionally I'm in a chazzer where there will be a herd of elephants of all sizes and types, some of which will be mono-tusked. Obviously an exiting collection.

:rotfl:After reading "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying", isn't it amazing how fast our collections of all sorts change from exciting...to exiting!
