Oh been there with parents GQ
it always amazes me on these Ocd cleaning Hoarder type TV programes. Whithin the programe the helper is frustrated by the hoarder who wont throw anything away. Clearly anxiety and panic due to the stuff being removed.
Then there is a showdown when the work stops. However, just before the end there's a transformation of the hoarder
Who then gets it and is fully on board with the clearing and cleaning.
In reality my parents were hot and cold regarding decluttering
blaming each other for the stuff.
Some days all for it, then some days not
then I would get phone calls late at night usually
wondering where the rusty broken stapler/whatever is
Like you say its a different sorting others stuff.

organizing for money is big in AmericaYeah, it's the ultimate sign of an excessive society, having to hire off-site storage and professionals to help your sort out your Stuff.
As I was relaying to the folks where I'd put the decorating equipment Mum said anxiously Where's the 'po? Where it always is, right by the loft hatch. 'Cos if you need a 'po in this two-lavatory household, you need to know where it is in a hurry. :rotfl:
Things I haven't yet seen inc the metal detector, apparently. I think I can see the frame of the sunlounger against the furthermost gable wall. Gawd knows where the cushions are or if their foam has died in the 30-odd years its been up here.
I have sneakily pre-positioned one of the two old suitcases of stored linens handy to be pulled down and gone through tomorrow. I haven't mentioned this to the folks (they're not on MSE but keep schtummn, you lot, jic) to be gone through. I suspect that if the contents haven't been needed since the 1980s they're not going to be needed now, but I have to get it past the Chief Housekeeper.
The Yarn Stash is just about sacred but we did agree that the mohair could go. Goregeous stuff but sheds everywhere. Two years after my electric blue mohiar sweater died, I was still turning up electric blue fibres in the house dust. Worse than most pets, that stuff is.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Surely if you need a po in that much of a hurry, you won't want to be climbing ladders into the loft to get it....;)‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

You've inspired me to give the mins game a go. If your maths is right it would certainly free up some space prior to Christmas. I suspect I will spend November in a cycle of get ahead of myself/fall behind/catch up again, but I think a target could prove very motivational. I'm already on the 4th November and I've only just started!!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

It has been fun although hard some days. Checked my maths and 496 was right - the good news for November is there are only 30 days so just 465 to find!!
Did the last of my gardening jobs today and with a few odds in the house, my new Mins count is already standing at over 20. I intend to post number (not details) when I get to each 100.2025 Decluttering Campaign 635/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

Love the exodus from the attic tales GQ
I was actually in ours this morning with Dh searching for a wooden valet stand. If that came back down into our room the chairdrobe could possibly be released into the wild. we were peering through crevasses and gaps in the piles of stuff and after an hour had almost conceded it mY have accidentally been CSed a while ago. Then just as we see about to give up I spotted it, yay so Dh managed to wriggle over and reach it so our bedroom is looking much better, so is the attic as I. The hour tons of packaging and bits managed to make the kondo and render mins game finished.

Now I know this is not a competition but while I really laughed at the GQ parental patio table parasol finial, with no patio to sit on, I have just had a quick foray into the parental pantry and found a jar of lea & perrins BBQ sauce, BB 30/4/1996. I kid you not.
I could try and point out that if you haven't felt inclined to open this jar in 19 years you probably er, won't open it in the next 19 years (without sounding disrespecful, mum is 75). But, I am here for most of the week so I have to be a bit circumspect at first. No point scaring the 'jic fairies' into turning hysterical circles just yet.
BTW, on arrival I found the seating in the lounge entirely covered in komono, other than the parental thrones. I moved a few bits, a book, a parcel that arrived this morning, a new jacket from CS, some clothing they are returning by post tomorrow, and other detritus, to clear a spac
e to sit. Mum objected to me moving the large cushion to free up one place ''because auntie S likes to sit on that so it is easier for her to get up'. The persons present being DH and I, auntie S having not visited in several weeks, not due back for a month. How do you deal with logic like that ???
Think we may have to concentrate on the garden, not sure I have the skills to deal with potty mother!
