  • I kondoed 2lbs this week. Today I will be kondoing stuff from the garden. Have noticed OH hasn't contributed anything to our 100 item challenge so a reminder will be issued. I have also identified a reusable shopping bag for kondoing as it's on it's last legs so charity shop donations will be packed into that.

:) Good afternoon, lovely peeps, I am just popping into the interwebulator whilst lunch settles and them I am back up t'loft. Started up there at 08.00 on the dot.

Was having to pull out the things which were nearest the hatch as they seemed likely to avalanche downwards throught the hole and onto the landing. This loft is above a small 1960s terraced house, and the access hatch is about 2/3rd of the way along, so one side is a lot bigger than the other side.

Now, if this were my loft it wouldn't have been in this state to start with, but it does mean that I cannot be ruthless and have to discuss and negotiate with Mum (a stress bunny with a chronic neurological conditon and lifelong hoarding issues) before each disposal. So, it's not a simple matter of logistics, is what I'm conveying.

    Barfed out of the loft thus far today;

A dozen rolls of wrapping paper, mostly Xmas, mixture of used and unused. Each now encased in the leg of a pair of tights with a label tied to the top of its description. Unstarted rolls are separated out and taped up in a big bag with a huge label on outside. Each three of the household rsident (Mum, Dad and Kid Bruv) have been shown this bundle and tolf that if it is touched before the started rolls have been finished I shall be extrememly displeased. Dad quipped that blood would be spilled, which is about the level of emotion. I shall [STRIKE]hide [/STRIKE] err, place them securely but not prominently under the eaves.:)

:o I think they've got the message. The four started rolls with the least paper left to use on them have been placed handily for use this year. The other rolls which have been started, but have more paper on, are being stored separately. Getting this issue resolved was important as they were falling all over the loft and hampering progress on other matters.

'The Blue Thing (the torso-type dress form) had escaped to the furthermost corner and had to hooked out with the attic hatch hook like a salmon out of a river. Fortunately it was bagged. Haven't yet tried to see if the stand which I got down yesterday fits it.

Also ejected is yet another monitor box, a huge bag of old tights, two holdalls (to chazzer tomorrow), a bag of rotting foam dining chair pads, an airer for use over a radiator with its white plastic chipping off, a broken rattan lampshade, 2-3 rolls of good wallpaper from when Auntie and Uncle moved 5 years ago, and a multitude of bits and part rolls of bad wallpaper (they have appalling taste, Auntie and Uncle) which are no use to man nor beast. I mean, who wants 6 inch wide strips of pretend-pebbles-in-concrete patterned wallpaper?!

 The recycling bin, that's who. It's now full but is due to be emptied tomorrow, than gawd. Hope they come early, I have plans to refill it toute de suite.

Also a large carrier bag full of zips. Mum instructed me to sort them out into good but we won't use (inc new ones with tags ) for the chazzer, rubbishy ones (binned) and good and probably will be used here (kept). Worked out about a third in each of the three piles.

A bag of brand new mohair yarn is leaving tomorrow, plus the 1970s Dalek style hair dryer and its stand - the top part was also bagged and was gaff-hooked out from under the other side of the loft.

:o I had a couple of knock-backs in respect of a large chair-sized bit of foam which has to be kept to re-seat the reclining armchair whose foam is getting a little bit tired (it ain't the only one, lol). I will allow that this is a legitamate purpose as it will almost certainly happen, Mum has refurbed many an armchair and sofa.

I also failed with a bag of curtains which were bought for a song and have never been hung. I doubt they ever will be but, as we're going so well, didn't want to have a squabble and maybe derail the whole process.

Bins are a-filling, car boot is filling for a dump run, we're still living what passes for a normal life here (laundry, food, admiring the cats etc) and I now need to go and discuss an empty LP carry case............

Cover me, ladies and gents, I'm going back up there............!

  • Good afternoon.

    Good going GQ!

I will finish posting my mins lists for October, as the activity has been completed.

Only 6 days worth to record.

    Dat 26 Monday

    1. Tealight holder in the shape of a blue fish, used up then removed the wax from its extremities, holder to CS.
2 to 7. Unloved white plastic coat hangers bought by DH
    8. Tie, sadly died (not dyed) in the wash,
    9. St Chrisopher travel bag CS
    10. Green t shirt, don't wear green
    11. Pair black suit trousers, too long as not wearing heels.
    12. To my shame, still with tags, an identical pair of grey suit trousers to those that went with the skirt and jacket to CS last month also with tags. I know they are not the same pair because they were hidden behind black ones and the others were in the coat and suit wardrobe.
13 to 20. More skirt hangers
21 to 24. Silver and semi precious stone pendants in colours that I don't like so haven't worn.
25 and 26. GCSE revision books circa 2010.

    Break for visitors!

GQ you have done so well
Thanks so much on posting what you've liberated from the loft.
It's true your parents will feel so much better when all that stuff is removed that's been hanging over their heads.

Regarding the dress form 'blue thing'
They go for huge amounts on eBay
Even in poor condition without stands
People get them to shabby chic

It looks like you have inspired peeps on here as well judging by the activity on the thread

I kondoed an old wooden sweeping brush
From my reli that didn't want it
I thought it would do to sweep my communal hallway in the
    Flats where I live
As I was putting it in the back of the taxi
The driver was giving me a funny look
I said "yes well it let me down last night"
"I had to get a lift home from another witch
I think I need to upgrade to a nimbus 2000"
    Mwaaaaahaaaa

Well done GQ were all really proud of you

:) Some more randomness; have finished hauling Stuff out of the loft for today as Mum is getting a bit tired of it. There were two more bottlebrush faux Xmas tree branches found (tally is now 4) plus a holdall containing 7 different small insulated llunchboxes. There were too many downstais so they got lofted instead of donated. They are all over the landing atm awaiting sorting.

Still haven't assembled The Blue Thing but Dad has loaded the car boot with things to go the HWRC. I was up for doing that this aft but he reminded me it's Sunday and will be busy whereras there will be fewer people up there tomorrow morning.

I also have two dud smoke detectors to take off the loft beam and a good one to put up there. Several boxes of unused handkerchiefs were found, and a giant ball of yarn has been donated to the blanket-knitting project (have just started in on it, I may be some time, it's thin and about the size of a small child's football).

Epic fail with the carrycase for LPs. Drew it to Mum's attention.

    Mum We have LPs.
Me In two cabinets, there and there(meaning carrycase not needed).
Mum We could donate some of them in the carrycase.
Me Great! Can we sort a few out now?
    Mum Don't harrass me.

    :D
This isn't an easy gig. The Stuff is the least of it, I can drag it out and [STRIKE]whack it over the head[/STRIKE] triage it for chazzers, freegling, dump, whatever, until the cows come home, but it's a lot harder sorting someone else's stuff than one's own.Mind you, I'm getting three squares inc a roast beef dinner within the next couple of hours. Will declutter for food - anyone hiring?!

    Onwards!
