Grrr - Just lost my post - here goes again!
Sun clearing the mist/fog so looks like it's going to be a lovely day. Will sort a load of washing so it can dry outside.
Well done GQ - not only for the clearing but also for being so sensitive and diplomatic with the parents.
Not joining with the mins game but it has inspired me to get rid of 'stuff' every day. Managed to Kondo two crab claw hair clips to a friend and a lovely bathing costume that gave me great Joy but squashed my chesticals to another friend. The Halloween costumes are packed away in one of the empty storage boxes which freed up a smaller pretty box that will be used to rehome something else as minimising and collating progress.
Chuckling over the mono tusk elephants - somehow I inherited a trio of small badly carved ivory crocodiles from my grandad - they must have been at least 80 years old. I did try to dispose of them responsibly but they just ended up going to the CS! I have kept a very small delicate carving of a bird though (not made of ivory).
Have a lovely day all x
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I must admit I have an Elephant - think he's made of ebony. He belonged to my grandparents, and then my to parents, and although he has managed to lose both tusks, still has his inlaid ivory eyes. He stands on the shelf at the back of my desk and gives me joy, so he's staying.

I do hope no-one was waiting (:rotfl:) for my last few days of Min's game reports but "the dog ate my homework" - I turned round to see what the little one was chewing and when I picked up a few fragments I could see it was my "running list". I'm sure no-one will be shocked to learn that I can't even remember much of what was on the list. I'm still working through the utility room, so much the same carp as the last few days.

Have to admire pup's no-nonsense approach to Kondo-ing, though :rotfl: .

I'll continue into November - so far:

Day 1 - a cracked and crazed ex-sugar bowl repurposed as a(nother) crocus bowl, but I already have more than I can use, so binned.

I spent the weekend at a single friend's place, getting her house ready for sale. We emptied a little loft-like part of her scullery, where she had put a lot of stuff when she moved in 8 years ago. Before we started, I explained KonMarie to her, and off we went: more then half the stuff was discarded/sent to recycling/charity shop. Hurray!

I brought one single duvet + cover home, to replace a really (c)old one I use for summer guests.

Then, I told her that I did not like any of the in-house to-do items on her list while the weather was gorgeous, so I worked outside, and kondoed weeds, dust, and leaves from her terrace (and its many ornaments!).

I came with a bag full of rags, because in her town, you can add rags to the paper recycling bin.

Plans for tonight: put full box of stuff in car boot for secondhand shop (sneak past dds and dh). Put summer clothes in large lidded plastic container (I think I heard a mouse in the attic ).

All these 'tales of the loft' reminds me of when my sister and I had to empty the packed loft of parents house. How the rafters held I do not know!

Some of the most memorable items were a complete set of wooden and glass doors and windows for the house, glass broken of course. When telling Mother (I had to be very careful of what I told her had gone - I am sure you can imagine), of exit of these items she exclaimed - ' you cannot get rid of those - that was SPECIAL glass'.

I could go on and on! Thoughts with you all.

I am wondering if a mins list will get me through November.........will give it some thought!

Dont think I need a mins list as I will bust the total for NOvember in a couple of days:eek: I thought so much had left this house but as I look around there seems to be just as much still to go:o OH back from his Trip of Lifetime on Wednesday so I am going to make sure there has been some obvious progress whilst he has been away. Major kitchen works will have to start once he is back - still havent got a cooker:eek: so will need rest of house in some order - currently most of contents of DD1 room in conservatory and DD2 room in our bedroom:o:eek::mad:

    :DHebwood, are we related?!

Well, after much diplomacy on my part, and infinite patience on Dad's, we managed to get a combined carload of Stuff for the chazzer (took two of us to carry it there from the carpark), plus a bootload of stuff for the HWRC, plus nipped around to the supermarket to get some grub, all in just over an hour.

Frankly, it was like herding cats.............:rotfl:We're all just chilling out after a light luncheon. Before we went, I managed to extract the two defunct smoke detectors off the loft's main roof beam and add the new one up there. A senior fire officer told me yonks ago you should have a smoke detector in the loft, it's a pretty common place for fires to start due to electrical faults. And heaven knows there's plenty of fuel up there to get one going.

I did point out that the bit of floor we were standing on to do this job was completely inaccessible yesterday. I felt the need to stake my claim to progress because, lawdy lawdy, there is still plenty of Stuff up there.

Of the 7 small coolbags, 5 have been donated and the two which died in storage have been binned.

I have a very large old suitcase beside me, one of those I packed Mum's overflowing linens into somewhere between 20-30 years ago. It's labelled Spare sheets inc turq cottons, lots of brushed cottons, blue/ white florals, pillowcases and bolster cover.

All of which makes perfect sense to me, and I don't think we even have a bolster any more. I'm letting Mum recharge her batteries with some lap time with the cat and her book before sneaking some decision making about the contents of this case, and the case itself.

:) Grinning at how many of us have/ had elephants. Occasionally I'm in a chazzer where there will be a herd of elephants of all sizes and types, some of which will be mono-tusked. Obviously an exiting collection.

I came to the self-understanding a number of years ago that I really don't like ornaments at all. So I don't own any, apart from two small ceramic pots made by a friend and a turned wood bowl which I bought from the woodturner who made it. I have the history of the tree it came from (a casualty of the Micheal Fish Hurricane) and I love it just as much now as I did when I first clapped eyes on it 25 years ago.

The family metal detector has been found (under the HDD box behind the chimney, in case you wondered). It can't be got rid off because Mum might want to have another go with it.:rotfl:

There are two more appliance boxes which can't be shed because their contents are less than a year old, but I have marked their cards and if they're still up there by Dec 2016, I shall be winkling them outta there.

Onwards and outwards, I am now treasuring the image of the nativity scene plus the elephant.;)

We have wooden elephants from Thailand and Sri Lanka but mil has the ebony/ ivory ones which will no doubt come our way at some point. I have one tall glass cupboard with ornaments. The only new things allowed must fit in there. We don't buy holiday novelties anymore unless there is something I really will use/need. We bought a nice wicker tray in Madeira which gives me joy, some new coasters, place mats for children which we use regularly.
Not doing Mins again until February but have already noted 24 items which have gone towards my 100 count. I found 20p in street this morning which paid for my tea at history class so today can be an NSD.

GQ Probably we are all linked in the hidden dimension of the 'packed loft'.

Thank heavens I did not have any wooden elephants or 'crying men' to deal with.

Love the thought of your Mum with her metal detector.

I allow/encourage the 'frogs' at work to make their own nativity scenes in the 'small world' area.........Thomas the Tank Engine and various dinosaurs, often feature prominently:rotfl: Only once have I had Barbie as the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus was one year the penguin from Wallace and Gromit film The Wrong Trousers:D Frequently Joseph is conspicuous by his absence............:(
