  • Good afternoon everyone

I will finish typing the lists, I will finish typing the lists......

When I removed the chest of drawers from my bedroom last week I found 4 cardboard boxes full of mixed items that had obviously been collected just after the windows were finished and were hiding in the corner of the bay behind the curtains. They were not going back so as a lazy day activity I decided to sort through them.

    Day 27 Tuesday
1 to 14. Substantial instruction books (at least 40 pages) for items no longer owned
    15. A stack of more concise instructions and receipts about 12 inches high
    16. Half a plastic jar of gold decorative sand
    17. Skein of black darning wool died in storage, to be fair I was given it by MIL when we married over 40 years ago and have never darned a sock.
18 and 19. Two pieces of heavyweight black cotton lycra, wavered as I wondered whether there was enough to make leggings for GD
    20. Black velvet scrunchie with perished elastic belonging to DD2, again wavered as to whether I should replace the elastic
    21. A flat 2 inch circular double-sided disc intended to stick something to something else, could surely still have a use?
    22. Two patches for airbeds
    23. Empty tube of leg and foot gel
24 to 27. The four boxes to RC bin, they will not be used again

    Day 28 Thursday
    1. Bangle to shoebox appeal
    2. Ditto bead and wooden necklace (originally Traidcraft)
3 and 4. Ditto two pencil cases
    5. Silver coloured metal choker thing for pendant
    6. More nail scissors, not up to the job, bent them taking staples out!
    7. Scalextric car
    8. Large scarf with tiger pictures to CS
    9. Leaflet insert for face cream
10 to 18. Green candles, don't like the colour, to CS
    19. Large mouse mat
    20. Photo envelope with 6 packets of negatives, about 1985, Les Dennis and Dustin Gee as Mavis and Rita at Blackpool helped to identify the year
    21. Guess who game, was going to CS, but DD1 told me it was incomplete
    22. Oval chrome basket, 6 inches long to CS
    23. Decorated metal eggs, like Russian dolls to CS
24.Free gift, folding insulated lunch bag unused
    25. Free gift pack of trump cards
    26. Approx 200 Pokemon cards
    27. CD holder that attached to old laptop bag
    28. Dead extension lead which DH had tried to mend

Thought I had accidentally kondo'd the hedgehog, his heat pad was plugged into the failed extension lead and the temperature had dropped. If I hadn't noticed it he might have tried to hibernate.

:) Ooof, taking five from the lofting.

Have had a productive afternoon. Two large older-style suitcases were brought down and the linens gone through. Nothing has died in storage, mercifully.

The linens have been sorted by me and Mum into two piles (two-thirds keepers, one third leavers) with the intention that the one-third pile go to the chazzer. Just heard Mum say to Dad downstairs that his sister should have first refusal (can be organised next Saturday). Two pillowsips were ejected on grounds of Bad Taste and we found some wedding present sheets, too (marriage is past the 50 year mark already, lol).

The suitcases are now back in the loft, in the same position that they occupied before, but with coned knitting yarn in them instead of bedlinen. I have labelled each with an itemised contents label. The idea being that they should only need to be opened if those cones are wanted, and the rest of the loft shouldn't have to be searched for them, yarn being about 70% of the contents, you see.:rotfl:

I am about to go downstairs and make some more cardboard swing tags to attach to the giant tartan laundry bags. There is a fleet of them up there but I am hoping to get all the floating placcy bags of balled yarn consolidated into the labelled tartan bags.

This is a severe SABLE situation but Mum is declaring herself stressed (the rest of us have been doing the work but it doesn't take much to stress out a hoarder) so I have sent her to sit and read with the cat whilst I pull stuff about upstairs.

Amazingly, although very little yarn (as in one jaffa-orange size ball) has actually left the loft, the chaotic waist-high mounds are shrinking.

 Confirming what I always suspected - there's nothing which can't be more expertly arranged by a Tetris Grandmaster such as myself.

    Upwards!

Just been and changed the spring blossoms and Green leaves display on the tree at work for the autumn leaves I've knitted over the weekend and this morning. Birds and nest have been reattached but I plan on knitting snowflakes and a pair of robins to bring it into winter by December.
I've got an hour before I need to start prepping food but After reading GQs inspiring attic ousting I have the urge to set a timer and nip up there for a while to play Tetris with my boxes.

:T Heh, I've started a fashion - you go, girl.

I was called away from t'loft to eat a meal and am having a little digestion time before going back to do a little more before breaking off for the night. There is plenty more to do but I will have some more time tomorrow.

I will have to return to my city via public transport tomorrow so will be carefully packing the discards and leaving specific instructions re the other things (which will be imperfectly followed by the family, but I can but try). In fact , people tell me that I'm very trying.

I have unearthed what appears to be a plastic-wrapped bundle of stand and legs for The Blue Thing. Will test that tomorrow. Which means the other stand/ legs belong to the long-gone wire dress form. And can be jettisoned.

Whilst Mum has been reading, Dad has been doing his own decluttering. The recycling wheelie was emptied today and is now one-quarter refilled with kipple.

Only the cats have been slacking and snoozing, lazy little beggars.

:) Have just put the loft ladder and hatch back up and am calling it a day.

There is a lot of Stuff left to sort out in the loft, and a lot of stuff left in the rest of the house, things being in the torn-up OMG-I wish-we'd-never-started-this stage which I'm sure we're all familiar with.

But I'm going to declutter myself into a bath-tub and have a well-earned rest. OK, I'll be back in the dust zone tomorrow, but I'll dynamite that bridge when I come to it.

Have a good evening, folks, and remember that proper decluttering requires frequent pit-stops for tea, bikkies and cakes. I've been running on treacle tart and adrenaline today.:p

Thanks GQ, I've rather bravely just read all the cards we were sent on our wedding day, some from people I can't remember, lots from dear frien and relays sadly no longer with us and some from couples who are now divorced and hate each other. A few were still couples and still in our lives, they all raised a smile went I read the love and kind wishes Shared with us, but the cards looked so old and well just like cards really. I smiled at the contents and the memories they brought back but they have all gone into the recycling, along with a rather scary looking plastic mouse with lady gaga like eyelashes and lipstick that was given to me on my 21st - that is over 30 years ago and mouse hasn't aged well. A couple of cuddlys that Dh gave me when we were courting had died in storage and looked really worse for wear. All have left the house along with more packaging.
Found a box of 1980s fitness mags for Dh to go through - not mine to kondo but he may let some go.
