The mins lists are sparking thoughts of where to check for miscellaneous tat - I can think of a gorgeous but broken hair clasp that I cannot use with my newly short hair. It had better go!
I have condensed part of my yarn stash (cheap DK acrylic) into a blanket and a drawer instead of the red basket they were in. My living room is cream, green and purple. The red jarred horribly. Tbh, I also have 2 out of 3 pretty stacking boxes empty in its place. I will see if there is anything needing a home before I dispose of them
ETA: I have started the process of clearing things at my mums house, so much still to do! She keeps stopping me and saying it's not a priority when I'm ill. It is incredibly annoying tho!:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Choose wisely, they're nicely caramelised, not burnt!! All adds to the depth of flavour anyway
Mmm, some were caramelised, the skins of the ones round the edges had definitely got to the charcoal stage. I just took those bits off before blending them all. They tasted OK, so frozen for future use.
Mins lists continue:
Day 22 Thursday
Childminding day so needed to find easy wins.
1 & 2. Floppy discs with old letters, cut up and binned
3 to 6. Ditto four with work based presentations
7 to 16. Unused floppy discs intermingled with above
17. The plastic storage box for the above, have still got one to go through
18 & 19. Two accessories for old vacuum cleaner found in the hat, scarf and gloves organiser in the coat cupboard, together with
20. Community police keyring
21. Broken clothes brush
22. Rainbow coloured suitcase identifier belt thing
Finally got fed up with the patch on the ceiling over the dining table that had been hastily repaired when water and then tile adhesive had descended during the bathroom upgrade nearly two years ago. The remainder of the tub of paint last used on the ceiling had been taken from the loft about 6 months ago, but had been hiding in the hall.
Having painted over the patch, and armed with a still wet paintbrush, I decided to paint the two bits of wall on the landing where the light switch had been relocated to and from during the same upgrade and were still bare plaster.
On Wednesday DS and I had moved the chest of drawers that was really too tall for under the window from the bay window in my bedroom to his room. I had already relocated his to DD'2s flat last year thinking that he would not be coming back to live with me, but that she might and would bring it back. So while trying to decide on a smaller replacement the space was clear and as I still had some paint left in the pot, thought I should paint the ceiling of the bay. It had been replastered when the windows were replaced the week after the bathroom was done and was finished just coming up to Christmas 2013.
This spontaneous activity resulted in the following items rejected from the decorating boxes:
Day 23 Friday
1 & 2. Two paint pads found to be unusable due to inadequate cleaning
3. Ditto one paintbrush
4 to 6. Three tubes of different grades of polyfiller died in storage
7. A further tube that I could just about squeeze from the tube, used for the job and then binned
8. Almost empty can of radiator spray paint
9. Ditto dark gold decorative spray
10. Sandpaper, used and binned
11. A roll of vinyl self adhesive border, sun pattern in yellow and orange intended for DD1's room when she was still at school (circa 1993)
12. Full can of fridge paint
13. Opened but unused pot of glow in the dark paint
14. Ditto tin of magnetic paint
15, The paint pot, now almost empty so wash and bin
These boxes are not yet finished, but on view in the loft while I was up there
16 and 17. Two rolls of squashed wrapping paper
18 and 19. Two cushion pads, intended to be recovered one day
20. Cuddly giraffe, but has no neck
21. London policeman souvenir soft toy
22 and 23. Two large pieces of fabric that have not been returned to the stash, and now never will.
Getting a delivery of fresh fish from Grimsby today but can't remember what I have ordered,0 -
Afternoon all.
Hello and welcome, white-sage, glad to have you with us. You're shifting some serious quantities of Stuff there, hope the weather co-operates with your getting it out of there soon.
This morning I have kondo'd a hospital appt - my annual MOT, as I think of it. My blood pressure is 'perfect' apparently and they were kind enough not to pass comment on my weight.:rotfl:
I was perusing the cupboards a few mins ago, planning what to eat in the next two days. Bit of a funny one, don't want to buy any more fresh food as going to be away from home for several days, so having a bit of an eat-up session. Creativity is being s t r e t c h e d a bit but it's good to use your initiative.
I was chatting to people yestereve and the subject of vermin damaging stored stuff came up and the catastropic damage done by mice in an unused bedroom (cat-imported mice btw) and also to stuff stored in garages. We're talking a few hundred quids' worth of losses, very annoying.
Was grinning at the utter randomness of life just now. I had a library book with me at the hospital, with one chapter to go, and finished it and took it into the central library on my way back home. And a book I was after was just being placed back on the shelf by a librarian as I walked to that rack, it didn't stay on the shelf for one second before it went off again.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, so I was rootling in my bag when I got home, to get the bookmark I'd been using and pulled out two and half Xmas cards. As in two new ones and the front half of a new one. In a cellophane pkt but with no envelopes.
I have no recollection of ever seeing these before - and this is my work bag which I carry daily! How woo is that?!:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Welcome to the club, whitesage.
Choosewisely, Kondoing the 'decorating kit' box and the toolbox has had an amazing impact for me. If I need something, I know where to find it and those little jobs I've been putting off - just like the ones you're describing - are suddenly achievable, and usually take minutes to do.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Welcome whitesage and its stopped raining here so hope it has where you live
Choose wisely Think you may have to explain this one
20. Cuddly giraffe, but has no neck:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I reckon someone was kondoing and saw your workbag open and thought yep she looks like a type of person who needs more stuff in her life :rotfl:and shoved them in there.
But really how random is that. They must have been there for getting on for a year :rotfl:Marie would be very let down by that ! hahaha

Thanks all for the suggestions re the top, but it is going.
i had forgotten to ask the "does it spark joy?" question - and "no" is the answer. it sparks anxiety, cos I should like and want it - but I don't....
I am off to the opticians shortly for a contact lens check. They won't let me have any more until it's done - I may pop to chazzer on the way to drop off some stuff (still some left over Min's game stuff) but might see if there's owt to be had to scratch that retail itch. i am off to a 50th party on Sat and not sure what to wear. i am not a partywear sort of gal..I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Actually, I have remembered them now, they've only been in the bag since early July this year, they were part of some paper-y carp I sorted out at Mum's and took away with her blessing. And promptly forgot, obviously!
Oh dearie me, I clearly need to raise my (mins)game...........:rotfl:
Will see if I have envelopes in the envelope stash (a small cardboard folder) and, if so, will use the two whole cards up this Xmas. I think the half-card will have to go meet Mr Recycling.
It's truly amazing how things exist without being wanted, needed or even noticed, despite being cheek-by-jowl with our daily life.
Picture this (a nod to the Golden Girls sitcom);
A small bare inteview room. The table and two chairs and bolted to the floor. The fluroescent tube light hums. The Item, as we might call it, slumps in its chair.
Sitting opposite, Chief Inspector GQ steeples her fingers together and gives it a Hard Stare. I won't ask you another time, sir; exactly what are you and what were you doing in the flat?
The Item remains stubbornly silent. The Inspector sighs, gets up, turns off the sound and video recording and opens the door into the corridor where two large gents are loitering, cracking their knuckles. They are wearing shiny suits and have faces only a mother could love.
Inspector GQ; Mister Refuse? Mister Recycling? It's all yours, take it out of my sight immediately. I never want to see its ugly face again.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just popping in for a quick hello. Still not much Kondoing around here, although DH went through his wardrobe again and pulled out a carrier's worth of stuff. Promptly down to the collection bin. Had a nose around the shops this morning as I was in town anyway, but nothing joy sparking. Came home with just what I went to town for.
Have quite a few posts to read back through, so will just say hope everyone is well and hugs to anyone who needs them.0 -
I think Mins game has definitely shown me that some of my early Kondoing was not thorough enough. There are definitely items that were left because they had a space rather than considering whether they were useful, beautiful or sparked joy.
