  • Good morning everyone.

The sun is shining and I have another 2Kg tomatoes roasting in the oven, they were very late to ripen outside this year. I have done the washing up so I am taking my first break of the day.

I have over a week's worth of mins lists to transcribe, so here goes:

    Day 16 Friday
    From the kitchen
    1. Box from icing cake decorations, last few transferred to film pod
    2. Plastic press thing to make impression designs on toast
3 & 4. Two small plastic containers used to fill up two previous steam irons
    5. A lovely fridge magnet of a teddy holding a bunch of roses that lost its magnet years ago and I never got round to replacing it
    6. A sachet of liquid flower food
    7 to 9. Three pre-used cake boards
10 to 14. Five good quality food containers complete with curved lids so they don't stack -> DD1
    15. One food container of which the lid collapsed on assembly
    16. Carton of OOD mango juice, boiled and portioned for breakfast smoothies

    Day 17 Saturday

1 & 2. Styling tools for hairdryer sent to CS weeks ago
3 to 5. Three metal bases for dead uplighters -> RC
6 & 7. Rubber hoses from old washing machine, must be very old oneas there was a hot fill one
    8. 1 book with stupid ending, wasted time finishing it this morning, so straight to CS bag
9 & 10. Two pictures that used to be on the bedroom wall, Peach tree and a foil pierrot.
11 to 15. Five plastic bottle lids, sauce/vinegar type, bottles long gone
16 and 17. Two wooden clothes pegs, one found in kitchen drawer, one in the bedroom

    Day 18 Sunday

1 to 13. Black socks with holes in, directly from sock bag, I usually match them up first and throw out the pair
    14. Pair of my white socks from the back of the drawer, elastic perished
15 Pair of very tatty white sports socks, DH won't miss these as he normally wears black.
16 to 18. Three pairs of laddered tights, usually keep them for under trousers, but these were too bad. I think at least one pair belonged to DD2 as they had a large hole in the knee and it has been many years since I consumed enough alcohol to fall down drunk!

    Day 19 Monday

    1. White M&S cardigan, a couple of years old but only worn once as it was not comfortable
    2. DH Black sweatshirt with greasy mark on the front that two washes failed to remove
3 to 6. Four 'white' T shirts (DH), got plenty more
    7. DH leather belt, split across the holes
    8. Unused belt (mine) -> CS
    9. Unused belt (mine) died in storage -> bin
10 & 11. Accessories for electronic Bratz dolls that went to church Christmas Fayre two years ago
    12. Key ring in presentation box
    13. Pack of playing cards, don't think complete, but not counting them as several new packs in the drawer
    14. Cards from 'Who wants to be a millionaire?' game, rest already gone
    15. Stack of train tickets
16 to 18. Three deflated footballs from under the conifer in the back garden
    19. The gel pen being used to write this list, smudges all over the place!

Oh, and the fire engine recorded earlier that had missed two tip runs due to hiding has finally attended its last emergency.

LBM for me today. I know it doesn't seem like it to start with but for me this is Kondoing that I shouldn't be doing and I didn't even see it until now and I could see what I was doing because my life is less chaotic now and I'm paying attention.
I buy fruit and veg every week with great plans of what I'm going to do with it but pretty much without fail life comes along and I change the order that I cook my planned items in and the veg etc ends up yucky or made into soup that no one but me eats. So I have now decided no more fresh veg comes into this house unless I am definitely using it in the next two days and I will only buy frozen from now on. I also find if I get the preprepared packs of veg I use them. I resist buying them because I think oh it's more expensive/I'm lazy/this isn't money saving but I have now realised that for me it does save money and food waste (which I hate!), I just have to work on the laziness.
This book and the massive change it has made to my home is also working on other areas of my life (shopping and time management being the biggest so far) and I am starting to really like what I see. I'm also finding that when the family aren't in the best of moods I can really just ignore it and carry on in my own little bubble of happiness when before I would have ended up in a bad mood as well.
Who needs therapy just Konmarie your life woohoo

  • This struck a chord with me, Lollyfin! I have a tendency to 'aspirational' food shopping - buying food I think I should be eating rather than stuff which really works for me, I control this by menu planning and only buying things I know will be used. I still end up with 'bottom of the fridge soup' once a week, luckily I love it!

I defrosted and inventoried the freezer at the weekend. Good grief. In my head, this is a place where I have useful home-made ready meals, stuff I could whisk out for unexpected guests and a store of veg, fruit, meat etc bought at discount or home-grown which saves me money. The reality - not so much.

I have joints of meat which would take a day to defrost and nearly as long to cook, enough h-m stock to make several gallons of soup, some party food from last Christmas (filo-wrapped prawns, anyone?) and rather a lot of unidentified items. I think November may be 'eat from the freezer' month. Oh, and the pigs trotters are going in the bin - don't ask! :rotfl:
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.

Jinny, firstly thank you for the "3 things list" It feels so much more achievable than my usual, long, to do list. I have been using the idea since you posted last week and it is helping me a lot. I am sort of combining it with doing 30 mins chores and 10 minutes time out (reading along here, having a proper sit down cuppa etc) whoops 3 minutes over my "out" time, better crack on with the next 3 things, might include shower and hairwash as 1:rotfl:
I'm so glad that is helping you.
I sit down on Sunday night and make a menu from Wednesday to Wednesday cos that's my shop day. I then make a list to take to the shops roughly based on the menu. Unless I see bargains and then I adjust the menu.

I pretty much have to do what you do and take little breaks. I'm doing it now 10mins jobs then 5minute breaks. I feel very lethargic today.
It's amazing what you can get done though.
I make a to do list every week add to it every day as needed.
However I pick about 3 things that I think are the most important to do. If I have the energy I do more but it's not a race they will get done eventually.
I've been watching my catch up programmes as I record a lot. I fall asleep watching anything after 9pm. So I can pause a programme do a job or two then have sit down. I got the results of my routine thyroid blood test this morning..levels are fine. However I'm very tired today. I've had other tests done and nothing found.
    Pleased you find that helpful.

  • Good afternoon.

Jinny, I was just going to post that I feel lethargic today, I have only been doing some sitting down sorting jobs.

I am so out so of practice with typing that by the time I got to check the tomatoes this morning they had suffered from the 'when it's brown it's done, when it's black it's b*******' syndrome. I am sure that they will be OK in a recipe with smoked paprika.

I have decided that I will finish posting my completed lists, so at least I will feel that my time hasn't been wasted totally today.

    Day 20 Tuesday

1 to 3. Cotton wool balls, wound dressing and bandage from travel first aid kit, Exp 2007.
    4. Travel scrabble
    5. Plastic luggage tag from extinct suitcase
    6. Travel iron, have a spare
7 & 8. Two glass bottles that had contained infused olive oil bought at a farmers market. I kept them to refill from the large bottle and infuse with fresh chilli and garlic. Now empty again, and decided why bother?
    9. Plastic spatula
    10. 'Spare' water filter jug
    11. Plastic pen/pencil holder, broken at the top
12 to 16. Five books to CS bag
    17. Dried flower display from lounge.
18 and 19. Two cheap small glass vases containing artificial flowers in plastic 'water'. I have a large M&S one with lilies which I love
20.Empty plastic microscope slide box left over from project in 2001

    Day 21 Wednesday
    1. Few remaining chocolates transferred to plastic box so large box to RC collection
    2. Old biscuit tin that was used for packets of sweets
    3. Swatch box
4 to 6. Three CDs with GCSE past papers pre 2007
    7. Damaged PS2 game
8 and 9. Two unlabelled CDs, don't look used, but without cases and scratched
    10. CD Part 2 of life of the queen, free with newspaper
11 nd 12. Two aluminium brackets from children's electric scooter which has already gone
    13. Replacement plastic flights from darts
14 and 15. Two rusty knives
    16. Box of metal clips from tent awning liner last used about 1997, fabric previously recycled
    17. Coffee jar full of shells, jar RC, shells garden
18 and 19. Two DVDs returned to DD1
20 and 21. Two small talcum powder tubs decanted into DH's currently in use container, I know they are different fragrances, but i am sure he won't notice.

I wish he wouldn't use it at all, particularly as the bathroom is now high maintenance with shiny tiles and chrome radiator, taps and trims, always seems to be covered in white powder.

Not strictly KM although I was getting rid of some kitchen carp while the cakes cooked!

When cooking the (sunken) apple cakes from the neighbour's donated apples, I used my trusty Kenwood Chef, and when I took off the folded tea towel that acts as a cover I found Saturday's pill receptacle which has been lost for a quite a few weeks from my weekly pill dispenser thingy. I had looked high, low and level for it with no success, I had used the KC several times and can only assume that it had become tucked up in the folds of the "cover" or that a cheeky poltergeist has been playing tricks on me:rotfl: whatever, I am delighted to have found it as had been having to put Saturday's pills in a ziplock mini bag and tucking it inside the case.

I think I ought to have a look at some housekeeping threads, as my skills obviously leave a little to be desired:o

Choose wisely, they're nicely caramelised, not burnt!! All adds to the depth of flavour anyway ;)

I must admit I used to recycle them for gifts
Well we were saving up for a house.

I think I would find ithe listing for the mins game time consuming
