  • Good morning, just, or it will be by the time I have finished typing.

    Mins game.

    Day 4
    1. 1 suitcase to Dd2 to replace her broken one
    2. 1 plug in air freshener, bought by Dd2, I don't like them - HWRC
    3. 1 electric manicure set -HWRC
    4. 1 20+ year old 2ft long battery operated fire engine - HWRC

    DAY 5

Escapees from the previous cull of kitchen cabinet

    1. 1 small frying pan - HWRC
    2. 1 unused turkey roasting tin died in storage. - HWRC
    3 & 4. 2 baking trays losing non stick coating - HWRC
    5. 1 box HM garlic and herb croutons of indeterminate age that seem to have taken on a plastic smell, so to bin.

Also gone but replaced, so not counted

1 medium frying pan, a second roasting tin losing its coating, a third baking tray in similar condition, all to HWRC.

Started on todays items, they will probably all be for recycle collection tomorrow. I am trying to include only those things that have been kept, or I would normally have kept, or that have needed processing before disposal, such as decanting into smaller containers.

This, I hope will help to keep me on track, but of course may change further into the month, and/or much further in to the journey when I might struggle to find stuff :rotfl:

  • A rainy late good morning busy Kondoites and min'ers.

Over here, it's a cull of crafting materials today. I had a large box lurking under the bed of 'paper picked up while on travels': maps, ticket stubs, postcards, that sort of thing. I had this idea that it would be lovely to decoupage some things, mainly a table from that giant Swedish store, upcycling it.

I've come to realize that I'm not the type of person to decoupage furniture.

I've kept a few unique maps, but only a file folder's worth now, in case I want to try my hand at some smaller pieces.

The empty box is now filled with off-season items. Beach towels, flip flops, bathing suit, picnic blanket and my snowshoes.
  • I made up a bag for textile recycling just now -

2 shirts from my hub's wardrobe as they are too small,
2 black vest tops of mine that are too tight and unflattering,
The blazer I mentioned before that is very unflattering,
Random curtain ties and some bent out of shape old slippers,
Horrible pair of sandals that I have never worn.

    :j
  • I'm not doing Mins game but I love reading the lists, it reassures me that I'm not totally weird in the stuff I've kept ... I particularly like the post above, sorry can't remember who it was, about the broken alarm clock and the box!

Another bag to the CS today, I've moved on to ornaments/vases/photo frames and the display cabinet (a concept I'm starting to question!) in my rarely-used front room. A horrid pink cake-stand, the Galileo thermometer that I asked for and really wanted but somehow no longer loved, and some random bits and bobs. A plate that I didn't think I liked has been relocated to the kitchen dresser where it's bringing me huge joy. And another piece of hand-painted (by me) china is going in the bin, it annoys me every time I see it.

UkAmerican, I think a real strength of the MK method is that I've realised I have acquired some things because I wanted to be the person who does decoupage, mosaic tiling etc - but I'm not that person and so I can let them go, I have lots of other crafty hobbies that I enjoy. On that note there's an interesting article here about why we acquire stuff: the Diderot effect - that also explains why I now want to paint everywhere!

I am enjoying reading the things being disposed of in the 'game', it actually makes me realise I am not alone with the odd things I keep finding!

no work today so second load of washing already on. Been tip, cash for clothes and to drop hedge trimmer back at sisters. Need to put some stuff back understairs and then 'fold' some clothes for dd1 room. We have cleaned it and she has provisional 'yes' piles to go through. Dd2 and me were teasing her that she has a carpet as it has been such a tip for so long we couldn't remember! Still piles around the house but it does make sense putting things together before you go through deciding whether they bring you joy. Dd1 has food tech today so no tea to make.
Don’t put it down - put it away!

Hehe mav, doggie physiotherapy:) hope it helps!

Baby yoga was good fun but my DS decided to have his daily meltdown during the relaxation part at the end.

I've found a few items for day 8...I counted up the total items for the mins game in October - 496...I feel like I want to round it up to 500. Might not be saying that later in the month though!

Thanks to Missyrichards and Pollywollydoodle for the links very useful reads.
I particularly found the minimalist and frugal item very good.I like to save money but am more interested in being minimal (at the moment) anyway.
Today started with cleaning windows which ended in painting  how did that happen ? I don't have a windows cleaner and doing the upstairs ones involve leaning precariously out of them!! Used a toothbrush to clean all the fiddly bits upvc frames have .must admit it's the thought of the men coming to fit some new panes of glass in as some have blown, and the condensation between the glass is drove me mad! That made me clean them ready!;)
Kondoed 2 tea light holders, and a half used candle, a charity bag came this morning so has been filled with the shoes and scarves that I set aside ready to go last week.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Everyone is doing well so far!

    Day 6:
    1. Boots Christmas catalogue - recycled
    2. Hand cream used up
3 - 6. Pasta bowls we never use - charity shop

Bit O/T but does anyone have any tips for cleaning behind the hood of a cooker? Looked at ours last night and it's grim.
