Hello everyone
I'm a lurker on this thread and find it very inspirational.
There was a discussion a while back about opting out of telephone directory deliveries. You can do so by contacting each organisation:

Hope that helps

I rarely take bags at the supermarket, mostly have a (samosa'd!) carrier bag or three on my person, but there are things I use them for:
1. Lining the plant bucket I use as a bin. One carrier bag equates to 2 weeks' household refuse. I recycle and compost but anything which would get smelly, like a meat wrapper, gets washed up before going binwards.
2. Chazzer donation bags. I usually aim for bags which are otherwise injured, such as having a broken handle. I take them down in the wally-trolley, offload and hand over, with the textiles for recycling in a separate bag. Woudn't really work with bags-for-life. Will have to pack bags carefully to maximise contents per bag.
3. Protecting things like books inside other bags. I have calico shopping bags but carting my library books around in them in the rain is going to work out expensive when they get ruined.:(
4. Dragging messy veg home from the allotment.
I was thinking of borrowing a library book on origami to practise turning things like newspapers (which I get as cast-offs) into bin liners and other liners. If nothing else, it would be an entertaining hobby for those dark autumn evenings. The subject of Mum donating her knitting machine to pal was brought up again today - by her. She is joyful about releasing it and all its accessories, it seems to have positively rejuvinated her. She's going through a rough time (in process of confirming diagnosis of Parkinson's) and it's great that she can think about releasing stuff for others to use. She's met pal a couple of times, and briefly met pal's parents, so it's almost like keeping it in the family.
I have been kondo-ing strawberry plants and found a passing plot holder to take a dozen off my hands, leaving only 50,000 left to get rid of. But I can really see where I've been with my gardening efforts this week. If the weather stays dry, I will press on again tomorrow.
I've also decided to get rid of a blouse which was given to me. I would have donated it to a chazzer several turns ago but it has acquired some mends which aren't as simple as sewing up a seam, and it itsn't resaleable. So I hung on to it.
I decided enough is enough, it's annoying me. I shall debutton it and send it for ragging. Life's too short for annoying clothes.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

As I lovingly samosa'd some placcy bags this evening (this passes for excitement IRL chez moi) I contemplated how differently you feel about things if you're going to have to pay a charge for them as opposed to getting them for 'free' - i.e. paying more for your groceries to cover the shop giving you 'free' bags. Each one will be carefully tended until it can be used no more and then it will become a bin liner bag.
Heck, I even washed up a bag today, a little one which I used to round up the marble spuds I discovered lurking in the soil left behind from the proper harvest. They did me for my tea.

I always use the teeny tiny ones up, too - I often throw them in a veggie curry, or in a frittata or sometimes quickly par boil them and then fry them off with garlic and a tiny bit of sea salt crunched over them when on my plate - yummy!:D
I keep carrier bags and have been not taking my B4L into Azda or Sainsbug if I go there, as there's no gain to me in using the B4L (whereas Tosco I get CC points and Aldee already charge) With 4 children there's an almost constant call for bags to take something into school, to use for carrying dirty wellies, etc - let alone my CS drop-offs most weeks, or giving my mum garden produce to take home at this time of year. I am certainly thinking twice about using any I have in a profligate manner!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Had to have emergency root canal today which wasn't a lot of fun, but better than ignoring the twinges until it developed into an abscess! Will go back for part 2 in 6 weeks when everything has settled down.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Morning all - thinking of you Jo4.
On the carrier discussion - I just happened to be in Mr T yesterday when they received info about the new chargeable bags - much better quality - I saw one! I had my once a two month Mr T delivery last night and on the website it says if you opt for carriers for a home del they will charge 40p as per govt guidelines. I always get mine no bags anyway so it won't affect me. Find they had some really good deals on this month. I know it isn't right to stock up but half price s*mple soap is too good to pass up!!!
Just going to finish a coffee hazelnut traybake off for ch shop and have sent DH with one for his MAcmillan event at work today. Will get to Kondo this afternoon I hope!July 16 £95/£200

Morning all
Good big of kondoing last night, dd1 popped round, someone came to collect her big dolls house and she took 5 bags of stuff with her that she'd sold and needed to post. It will all go eventually!
Re using bags for doggy uses, not that I want to encourage 'hoarding' but a friend of mine used to always pull off a few extra produce bags and throw into the bottom of her trolley when she was buying her fruit and veg. She used them as nappy bags to put soiled terry nappies in when she was out and about when hers were little.
Busy this morning with a dentist run for ds2
Have a joyful day allSPC~12 ot 124

I have just checked my carrier bag stash. To find I only have one left so I had better get hoardingI was wondering with this new charge coming in.Is it all shops ? I just cant imagine someone buying say an expensive item of clothing and having to shove it in a bag for life. Or is it just supermarkets ?

But it is so easy to clean as its all so clear of clutter
A jumper gone yesterday as it left so much fluff on the T-shirt I had under it I looked like a Yeti  Thank goodness I never had to take the jumper off as it was a Black T-shirt. I am not carrier bag hoarding - even samosad they still take up space, I will buy a roll of bin bags. They aren't dear and fit neatly into the allocated space in the drawer.
