I am finally finding myself again. I was not myself for 2x3 years, after the birth of each dd. I love them to bits, but I could not think straight and did not have the energy to do anything other than basic feeding and cleaning. Now, I am energetic again, ready to order stuff in my house correctly (a la kondo), actually decorate the place (paintings, photos, etc. There is paint on the walls!). I even managed to get both girls into clubs: taekwondo and music for the eldest, swimming for the youngest.

I need a lot of routine for this, and energy to look ahead more than one day. I am even contemplating a birthday party for my eldest's 7th birthday, which was end of June, last day of school.

Why this long story? Organising my house and life the Kondo way has helped me find my energy again.
Without energy, and in a mess, life is doubly difficult. Routines, everything in its place, limited options, choices made only once (I choose in the supermarket what I am going to eat), all help simplify my life.

:o Can I ask a candid question? Have any of you, with the plastic bag charging date bearing down on us on Oct 5th, been tempted to acquire and hoard extra plastic carrier bags?

I think I posted this a few weeks back, but my DH recently came home with every plastic bag from his work from that month (he'd been hoarding them!) and said they'd come in handy for when the charge comes in. Thank god he doesn't work in a supermarket. :rotfl:

I sent the really flimsy ones (looking at you Mr T) off to recycling, but kept the posh ones.
  • June I made the mistake of using some tesco bags to store some cables and stuff in, they were biodegradable so I ended up with a drawer full of confetti!!!!

If I may pop in, I keep as many carrier bags as I can, I have three dogs and carriers come in VERY handy. :rotfl:

JO4 I'm glad to hear that your mother is ok. Please keep your appointment, my DH survived this because they caught it early enough. Never put it off. Good luck.

    Be well all.

Sorted the sunny holiday drawer and the thick jumper drawer. One jumper gone to CS bag. Now have four bags full so need to take a trip as three was meant to be my limit.

Keeping summer skirts in wardrobe for a while as going to book a holiday for next month and may need them (can only live in hope). If not, the drawer is tidy and ready to receive:).

Actually they're not drawers but these

Ikea nylon 'boxes' which fit perfectly on wardrobe shelves.

Cleaned out the cutlery drawer but nothing kondoed but crumbs!:rotfl:

    Hello everyone

I'm a lurker on this thread and find it very inspirational.

There was a discussion a while back about opting out of telephone directory deliveries. You can do so by contacting each organisation:

    Hope that helps :)

I am curious about what will happen at car boots with carrier bags as people always expect a bag. I used to take old ones of mine down but have already started using other bags so don't have many. I Wonder if I charge for them people will be shocked?!

Yes, oh yes! What else would I use when I have to clear up dog-sick or a canine "accident" at silly-o'clock am? I'd have to use a single-use bag that I'd bought! I also use the supermarket bags to hold the combings and trimmings when I groom them (I seem to get a whole other dog's worth of hair each time).

They fit in my kitchen bin - as a single person household, I don't like to have lots of gubbins hanging around rotting before it goes out, and supermarket bags are just the right size.

And I have several holding the pads for my sitting-room cushions (tucked away in the spare room while the covers are being washed).

There are loads of uses for them.... so I've taken every opportunity to increase my stash before the tax comes in.

  • I'm not hoarding bags - but I do use them a lot, mainly to empty the cat litter tray into but also for taking stuff to the chazzer. I'm pondering on how I'm going to manage that in future, better get the Kondoing finished before the charge comes in! I can't face the idea of unpacking my CS stuff from a Bag for Life in the shop - I usually drop the bags and leg it before anyone sees my junk, I mean treasure.

I had a great day up in the Big Smoke, catching up with old colleagues. I came home via a large and well-known shopping mall ... and came out with 3m of curtain header tape and a bottle of window cleaner! There are some lovely clothes out there, but I don't need anything, and I find myself thinking more and more about the ethics of new clothes. There was a link posted by iQueen (I think) a week or two ago, to an article about clothes manufacture and it really made me think. Mind you, I don't know where the curtain tape was made ...
