  • I love this thread!! Despite my CFS/Fibro+ Ive managed to strip my bed, wash my electric blanket and vacuum and air my mattress today. Ok, I won't manage to get it put back together until at least tomorrow or maybe Monday, but the only reason I could manage at all was the extra space from Kondoing :D

Its definitely easier to tidy and clean up with fewer things in every nook and cranny. Being able to see everything when I open a drawer, cupboard, door, whatever means I don't forget what I have, less time moving while in high levels of pain and the ability to put things straight away (as opposed to struggling to find a place to sit it down) is AMAZING :D

You will all know the delight I felt when today's charity bag through the door said "and bric a brac" :T:T:T

Eventually these bags will say "and komono" :rotfl:

    Evening all!
Been at work all day, dh made curry for tea with large glass of wine!
Just enjoying 2nd glass as I catch up on everyone's good work.

Kondoed a broken washing machine to the tip for dd3 lugging it down 3 flights of stairs and getting across the carpark on a skateboard was a sight to see.
Plans made to Kondo the rubbish from mils garage soon,
Big bag of old paperwork left on Friday so space cleared in cupboard.
Went for a walk with DH this afternoon was lovely to just spend time with each other did end up having a meal in a local pub. Did pick up a couple of Christmas meal menus while we were there. Won't hang on to them too long.

  • :rotfl: I wish! All the ones I get just seem to say 'clothes'. I will need to make another trip soon, I'm gathering a pile of bric a brac.

Silvasava, I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one with stuff from 2011 (and further back!). I've just gone through the bottom cupboards of my beloved pine dresser.
    5 jars of home-made chutney
4 jars marmalade - I've been buying it, grrr (and hardly ever use it!)
3 jars mincemeat, it'll get used in a couple of months
2 mini Christmas puds, BBE April 2013
3 bottles of blended whisky, which I never drink
    2 bottles sherry, ditto
    3 bottles gin
1 each of Greek brandy (I think it's 15 years since I went to Cyprus), Havana rum (6 yrs since the Cuba trip) Creme de cassis and mead
Half-empty bottles of port, Courvoisier, 'cooking' brandy, vermouth and Tia Maria
    THREE cocktail shakers ... what?
And some sloe gin, blackberry vodka and a half-filled rumtopf

I think I have a drink at home maybe once a month - always think I'll have a Friday night G&T but I rarely get round to it, so at this rate I've probably got enough supplies to last me till I retire. Note to self: the drink that tastes so delicious on holiday is never the same back at home (see brandy and rum above).

The amazing thing is that despite most of this being kept, there is now masses of space in the cupboard. I need to store this year's honey crop so I'm very happy. I might celebrate with a little drinkie! I've been putting this job off, but it's the last kitchen cupboard, done. :T

  • Evening all! Greetings to new posters, and condolences to those who've had bereavements :grouphug:

I haven't posted for a while as RL, and a bad back, have got in the way.

However, I did manage to kondo a big bag of mixed komono and other Stuff to the CS today:
some unjoyful cups and saucers (nice big cups, but then a visitor said they reminded her of chamber pots  - I never felt the same about them again),
a decorative mini-teapot with a knitted integral cover
    6 very fancy wine-glasses
a pin dish with a pattern of a s-p-i-d-e-r - being an arachnophobe, I'd kept it as a sort of desensitisation therapy, but it didn't work :rotfl:
and the duvet set which was on my bed, and walked on, last time my house was burgled. I'd washed and ironed it but couldn't bring myself to use it again.

There were some other bits and pieces, so important that I can't even remember now what they were!

I managed to kondo some handbags, coats and hats. I have a few bags of clothes for my niece to try as she always likes what I wear and she fits into my clothes. If she doesn't want them I can take them to the charity shop along with the other bags I have for it.

Hubby has started sorting some of his things out - he has got rid of hats, a coat and some clothes. It is amazing at the amount of things you think you need.

From the bags I have received that just ask for clothes it seems that they are destined to be sold on to eastern Europe with just a small donation to the charity which is why I now wait for those that will take household goods and bric a brac or enlist help to deliver them directly to the shop.

Electrical goods and furniture go to the local Emmaus store who provide work and accommodation for homeless people and will also collect large or multiple items.

I also spent time in the kitchen yesterday doing just one foood cupboard.

    Disposed of
3 tins of various beans Best before 2010.
1 jar of jalapenos opened when? I don't use them.
    Ditto 1 jar of olives.
Ditto 1 large jar gerkins, might have been for HM McDs
    1 can coconut milk.
2 jars home made green tomato chutney, not dated, but I know I didn't make any last year
Ditto 2 jars HM cranberry jelly
6 cartons juice that were for children's packed lunches at school, they left in 2010
    And some I can't remember

Used up some bit OOD 'emergency supplies' kept for if I am ill or away
1 jar pasta sauce, usually make from scratch so it is now too sweet and salty for my taste so toned down with HM variety
1 carton ready made custard, went with bread and butter pudding made with 3 stale Danish pastries

Moved to the front OOD items to be used up soon
1 of the 2 jars Thai green curry paste
2 jars mincemeat, will use one today for mincemeat cake
1 tin soup, lunch one day this week
1 jar ginger conserve unopened, don't know what to do with it

I have been gradually using up excess stock by making breakfast smoothies to include:

Dates, have now only got enough for 2 sticky toffee puddings
Mixed seeds, Almonds Walnuts 1 jar of each left
Pistachios, all gone, last ones were binned, life is too short to remove those firmly sealed in the shells
Porridge oats, now reasonable quantity for cold morning porridge
Frozen fruit bought when DD2 was home, but won't survive the journey without defrosting and she doesn't seem to use it when she is here at weekends.

Eck. 6yo DS is "tidying" his bedroom. Came across a piece of tat, broken toy that was discarded long ago. "Shall we bin that?" Says I. "No, I might need it!" "what for?" "Just in case!"

    Gah!

    Morning kondoites :D

Friday night kondoed at a Funk Disco :rotfl:Fab time had by all what a great laugh. I felt so stiff on Saturday down to the Funk moves we were all pulling off ;) But we decided we are never too old to get down and boogie :o

Saturday kondoed at the 40s weekend. So much effort goes into it and the whole town and people are dressed up it is fantastic. It is so busy now and every hotel,B&B and every camping space for about 30 miles is booked up months in advance. Mrs MP if you have never been you should as you would love it :D

Carrying on from that afternoon tea today at a local hotel 40s style :) Really Sunny and warm here all weekend so we will all sit in the fab gardens and soak up the last of the Sun ;)

Have managed to clear some old food stuffs this morning Jars of sauces that we never use and why have I got 3 opened packets of Cornflour I will never know.:o So a bit more room in there now ;)

Meal plan done to use up things in the fridge so all going ok.

Bad news the shower has packed up :( My plumber came out yesterday and said in his words its Bu**erd :rotfl:Man of few words but a great plumber and what he says always makes sense :p
So he is phoning local plumbing showroom to tell them what I need and I can just pop down Monday and pick what I want and he will fit it one evening this week so I cant complain.

I hope you have all had a joyful weekend
