    :) Morning all.

Well, yesterday morning just about floored me, as I opened up my email program and found a msg from a pal asking me to ask my Mum if she would be interested in selling pal one of her two knitting machines.

Ran that by Mum and she said no sale - but pal can have it for free.:rotfl:It's going to take some time to round up all the accessories but this will mean that the main case, the subsidiary case holding the ribber bed, the table-stand thingy and various other bits and bobs can leave the parental home and go somewhere they can be used. How fantastic is that? Mum also said the second one can go, that's rather basic and 'probably belongs in a museum'.

This is a turnaround from mere weeks ago when the presence of both machines, neither used since the 1980s, was non-negotiable. Wow!

On the home front, I spent most of yesterday out on the allotment, although I visited the tip thrice (3 runs on pushbike, each with 2 IKEYA bagfuls) which is maximum load for me. Tip was pretty busy, as per usual. Parents went to their tip which had its hazardous waste amnesty and got rid of some old paint etc, and bumped into a rellie (is there a formal name for the brother of your BIL?) :rotfl:

Re genealogy, Dad's family have been recycling the same forename for the firstborn son for at least 350 years, Dad and his paternal grandad share a name, his own father was 10th in a family of 11 and was named after an uncle who'd just been killed in WW1. But recycling names does make the genealogy awfully complicated, doesn't it? Oh, the deep deep joy of finding an ancestor with a unique name so you can trace them easily.

Dad's still fretting about some ancestors for whom there are no death records. There's nothing like an unsolved mystery to frustrate the family historians amongst us, hey?

Got some errands to run around town and then will go to the allotment a bit later on, as the weather seems to be sloooowly improving as the morning advances, didn't look at all pleasant when I got up (am on holibobs this week, hooray!)

    Happy kondoing, one and all.

Gq was reading An interesting bit in a book I got about the history of sheringham, it said the fishing families named their sons after their fathers so at anyone time their could ba something like 12 men with the same name living In the town. That is why they were all known by nicknames rather than real names, sounds like it would be really confusing.
Brilliant news about the knitting machines, sounds a real stepforward.

    yes, he's called Steve :D

Morning all from filthy Wales (weather wise, not otherwise), I am trying to Kondo some work before going home later. Min's game day #21 to do when I get back - I am already thinking about 4 plastic champagne glasses ( we rarely drink champagne and have an assortment of glass glasses we could use - including champagne ones) life is too short to drink champagne out of plastic glasses; and a v squat glass vase that is literally neither use nor ornament. As I will be time pressured I may take a pass over the herb and spice collection and yet again the office desk.

Got badly stung by nettles while picking blackberries yesterday, I think it's affected more than it should :-/
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Had our regular Autumn barbecue for family to celebrate several birthdays including mine. Post Kondo (well 50% done) not only did I find everything I needed easily but less than a day after everyone gone everything is put away. Pleased to discover I had kept about the right amount of bowls, crockery etc. 11 stayed over and we managed ok although I did buy a second folding bed and a new spare quilt. Washing and ironing to finish off but that's all. Guests 'encouraged' to KM the leftovers. Nice to have lots of children here 8 DGC and 2 of their cousins.
Right now to get on with that paperwork, photos and loft. Garden pots also need kondoing although tomatoes have decided to turn red at last. Bought plums in Worcs last week and made 7 pots of jam some of which left with visitors.

  • Yesterday I finally tackled my shoes. I love my shoes but following knee surgery, am some what limited in what I can wear. Got half way through with 2 pairs going on ebay, one going to a friend and one to see if a shoemaker can fix it up. The other half needs dd to provide brutally honest feedback. Also kondoed a jar of chutney to my brother.

:) Well, our one's actually called Billy (the brother of BIL) but the language lacks a formal title for this degree of relation of a relation by marriage.

Plastic champagne glasses seem so wrong, somehow, don't they?

Going to do some kondo-ing today as the sky is now darkening rather than lightening, and I fear I shall be rained off the plots. Will take pal's business paperwork up to his shop and have a natter and a cuppa shortly. And return a library book.

It's funny what we each keep/discard, isn't it! I've just repacked the plastic champagne glasses. I have a group of close friends and when one of us has a 'big' birthday we usually arrange a weekend away together. The plastic glasses have had several outings on the Eurostar, camping, train trips to Bath etc! However I'll check how much they cost next time I'm in the supermarket, it may be I'd be better to chuck them out and buy new ones rather than keep them in the cupboard.

Happy Kondoing everyone, I have too many RL things today but I'm hoping to get back into it this week.

ETA: Ok, I have just Googled and I can get 8 champagne glasses for £1.20 in Asda. I'm all in favour of not wasting things, but I think I'd rather buy new ones next time than have these taking up space!

  • Just had a look in a drawer I'd previously Kondoed.
OUT 3 pairs 3D cinema glasses, 3 key rings, 2 spare pairs of nail clippers 4 dead batteries and a toilet roll tube. Drawer is now tidy again. Not sur how these things survived the last clear out.
Noticed I still have some cheap plastic free with clothes coat hangers so going through wardrobe again and replacing those with some of the decent spares from the ironing basket, then once I've done the ironing today all spares can go I. The recycling bin at local supermarket. Finally remembered at the weekend to take the dog food and bedding and put in the animal sanctuary bin in the supermarket so that's gone.
DD3 is slowly working through the Jiffy bag stash while eblaying some stuff. A few bits have gone now so she's getting there.
Had lightbulb. Lament over weekend when we Kondoed dd3s old wm. we actually pass a tip every weekend when we visit dd1 but use the tip in the opposite direction when we dump stuff. So if instead of earmarking a whole day to clear mils garage we sort it into manageable sections we can do a drop off each weekend as we are passing saving time and fuel.
Spotted they have a paint disposal section so going to sort some paints to take (that should be 3 runs the amount there is!) but plan to do an old mattress and the lazy boy chair that I couldn't give away on freecycle this week to give us some space.
