Just spent 2+ hours at the chazzer and I was right - everyone is still kondoing books!!!
Now off to sort my house! - after a quick trip to the bank to get out the money for my boiler service - they can't come until tomorrow at the very earliest and that's doubtful - so that's me boiling kettles again this week. We have only just recently finished 6 weeks without drinking water - so I am used to it!!!July 16 £95/£200

I am also sat here contemplating my brandy glasses. i have half a dozen, cut glass. They were wedding presents - 24 years ago. I can't recall a time that we have ever used them. We have half a dozen cut glass tumblers that would do just as well - and do get used occasionally.
OH will say that they aren't really taking up much room though - but i want to see the space....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I just had a massive clearing up session with things I had tidied but they were things I don't often use like stuff for my pets and DIY things. I decided to move it all out into the garden storage boxes so the little used things were all kept together.
They are not joyful but I can't get rid as I do use them sometimes but I don't need to be looking at them in our upstairs cupboard.:D
I rearranged all the pet food and toys and flea and worming things and it is all looking very neat and more importantly hidden away out of view.
I think I only managed to throw away one thing but at least things are a bit more organised.:)
I have more carrier bags to samosa.
I have so many of them as I've been keeping them all and they are coming out of my ears.:rotfl:0 -
I think I really need to get on and do some sorting...
I moved out of my flat that I shared with my ex in April this year and all my stuff is still in the garage of my parents house (where I live now)
My parents are going on holiday in a few weeks for a fortnight so I'm planning to really see off the bulk then but in the mean time I'm going to start small.
I'm going to put my hands up right now and say... I hoard underwearsocks, knickers, bras... a lot of my underwear is really old and holey
I'd like to say that feels better after a confession but it doesn't really! I think when I was at uni I lived in a world of 'go to the laundry room once every three weeks' like most students so I now have a good months supply of knickers... and probably enough socks/tights to adequately clothe three people for a month
Gonna have a proper read through this thread and look at some youtube videos before I tackle the first step - the underwear drawer! (Or drawers, as I think I have three on the go now - 1 in the garage in the chest of drawers I've not unpacked, and 2 in my actual chest of drawers in my bedroom). I have a problem£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0 -
Off on holiday on Friday so checking some of my sunny weather stored clothes. Discarded a pair of cut off's and 3 tops. While I was getting stuff off the top shelf I've also Kondo'd a chunky grey wrap what didn't suit me (present) two chenille jumpers, four other jumpers and a couple of tops. The plastic boxes they were all kept in has been kondo'd from 3 to 1 1/2 - will be re-organising to make that 1!
Decided the case I bought at the CS can be filled with it all and go back to the CS! While I was up in the loft also managed to release a silver plated candelabra bought for our wedding anniversary and never used. The lovely couple that gave it to us are no longer here so maybe someone else will have the joy. I've also sneaked out two awful figurines that DH bought - why did he buy two??? one was bad enough. They havn't been on display for at least 5 years so hope he's forgotten them 'cos they're out too.
I've got loads in the loft to go but even a couple of things are giving me joy as its a little bit less
Have a lovely Kondo day all
ps: GQ :T:j for the knitting machine!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
everyone is doing so well still, it is a joy to read your updates! I am still kondoing slowly but surely, 3 more bags out yesterday and another cupboard I have my eye on. I hope to have it all done by Christmas........ oh no I said it out loud!2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0

OH will say that they aren't really taking up much room though - but i want to see the space....I think of it like this; items can be divided into three categories; the useful, the beautiful and the obligatory.
The useful is self-explanatory and, if you haven't used them in the past 24 years, you're unlikely to start using them now.
Ther almost certainly have a degree of beauty, but do you enjoy looking at them as unused items enough to give them houseroom?
The obligation; they were a wedding gift 24 years ago. Can you recall who from, are they still alive, do they visit your home and visually check the brandy glasses are still sitting in the cabinet? Would they be offended if they weren't there? If the answers to that are dunno, no, no and probably no, why would you be obliged to keep them?
I have come over all unnecessary with fatigue and can't face going to the allotment so am spending some pottering time at home. Anway, it keeps drizzling and I can barely move for aches and pains. Have turfed out a food cupboard and moved some cans forward or back, depending on their dates. Have also made a list of what's in there and inserted one of those strong liddly boxes with the cut-down front to contain the cans more neatly. The fill pipes for my sink run through the back of this cupboard and it's feasible that I could need to empty it in a hurry. By boxing the stuff I have reduced the time to do so from a few minutes to a few seconds.
I have also brought out the vinegar which I will be needing for making beetroot preserves shortly. I knew I had it, but it's now to hand. And then it'll be used and the bottles recycled and there will be more space.I have also purchased a deeply cheerful mug from a chazzer for 20p to replace another 20p chazzer mug which was less than cheerful and I will give you three guesses where the uncheerful mug will be heading.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Didnt make it upstairs to sort coat hangers as I got lured in tidying the kitchen, why did I have 7 tins of black shoe polish in varying States of used?? I now have 3 almost full tins as I've merged them, Kondoed an old set of table as that were lurking in the space on top of the wm under the work surface, some dirty dyson filters, a couple of utensils that aren't good enough to offer the CS, some glasses ( those Nutella jar ones) a jug lid that I've never used and some grubby plastic containers and non matching lids. A mug went as well as it had a slight chip. Also a few non joyful fridge magnets and a candle holder pot that can go to the CS. Felt much brighter in the kitchen when I got back home from work, and DH even commented how hard I must have worked all morning in there. LOL it took about n hour of intense kondoing and general wiping down.
Going to put the non iron stuff away now and sort the coat hangers.SPC~12 ot 124

I keep getting distracted today, I am in the bedroom sorting coat hangers but have found some clothes that don't bring joy but are still nice and wearable so may bring joy to someone else so that are going in the Cs bag, but I've Kondoed 5 bottles of oil from the cupboard, I don't put oil in the bath as its too slippy and horrible to clean afterwards and have so many lotions creams and butters I don't use oil as a moisturiser so they are all being binned. Will take to the tip when we do the paint drop and ask where they can go.
Back to coat hangers now before I flit off to something else.SPC~12 ot 124

Does anyone else find themselves with the full intention of doing something, and then find that it's hours later and they still haven't started? It seems to be happening more often with me lately. It has taken about 5 days to sort out my filing cabinets, and DH is currently down the garden burning all the personal paperwork that has resulted. There is a bag of recycling and heaps of stuff (komono) lying on the floor. I want to swop 2 cabinets around, the bigger drawered one to hold DH old slides, the smaller to hold envelopes and printer paper etc. just need the go to come back IYSWIM.
I am making progress by making room to work. So far in the last month I have taken 2 full car loads and half a load ready in car, to CS. I have Freecycled a replaced Microwave oven, 2 old printers and inks, a slow cooker, a spare sewing machine ( I have others!), a VHS player and a sandwich toaster. The CS collected a table and 4 chairs, 4 odd chairs, a computer table, 3 coffee tables (still have 2) and something else I can't remember. I've also tipped 2 computers, a scanner, 2 monitors and assorted cabling. I cleaned and tidied the sitting room at 11.45 p.m. on Sunday, and cleaned the kitchen etc while dinner was cooking also on Sunday.
DH hasn't quite got it yet. I asked him to check several packs of photos, and see if they needed to be kept or ditched. I already took all people photos out, so simple flick through, out or keep. He carefully went all through them, labelled everything and threw nothing. They are from 1987 so nothing of importance but he kept them! Give me strength... I may finish these flipping cabinets tomorrow (or not) after shopping.0
