    :) It's a good feeling, isn't it?

One of the funniest things I ever dropped my hand on in a hurry was at my parents' place years ago when I was staying over supervising their extension being built. Anyone who has ever had a dose of the builders knows that they can be inclined to sidle off on mysterious errands which take half the day and cause everything to take so much longer than it should. And one week with the builders in is like four weeks of subjective time with added dust, of course.

So Joe the Builder said he 'just had to pop out and get a tool' and I was fly to that. House has lots of tools, so asked him what he wanted in case we had one. He thought for about 30 seconds, obviously racking his brain for some tool a civilian household probably wouldn't have and came out with a three foot spirit level.

His face was a picture of consternation when I reached around the corner into the next room and produced one of those very things, he was struggling to think up another excuse and then realised he couldn't get away with that and went back to work.

:) I was trying not to laugh in the other room; darn thing had been sitting on top of a radiator for months waiting to go out to the shed where its true home was, only no one had got around to taking it there.

    (I came, I saw, I kondo'd)
  • GQ fantastic news re your folks place :) I remember some of the tales from the dehoarding thread.

Don't think I really kondo'd anything today. Took me until 4pm to get most of my morning routine done, and oh my pain levels are high. I'm on some extra new meds which are unsetting my tummy and hugely regiment my day in terms of food, drink and rest.

On the topic of domestic gripes - why does my flatmate insist on doing dishes after 11pm? We live in a flat, the kitchen is right next to my bedroom. And while I'm glad he does his share of housework....it's awfully loud sometimes. Still finding housework easier for clearing things out. To the extent that I want to put more things up on the walls, now the other spaces are clearer

A year or so ago I kondoed (only I didn't call it that then;)) coat hangers and kept only the joyful, covered ones and wooden ones (except for the skirt ones like clips). Then on winter evenings I covered the wooden ones. It's much better for my clothes and they look good.

Thank you for that brill idea, have added cover wooden coat hangers to my list of winter jobs.:)

Full day in work today so no chance of kondoing or flying.

    Have a joyful day all

    Ps
One of my piercings closed up but a bit of fiddling over a few months with a clean earring and it suddenly opened up. I can now wear joyful earrings again, I was in the same position debating to get repierced or not. HTH

    Advice here too please.

Poking around in my glasses cupboard I have happened upon two engraved cut glass wine glasses given to OH and I 11 years ago. I only know that due to what's engraved, don't know who gave them, nice glasses except for the engraving.

I don't want them, they have never and will never be used - we have many wine glasses :o:beer:. OH won't know we had them but, if I own up, might insist we keep them cos "someone gave them to us" I can't donate them as the engraving has our names on them - do I just .... Chuck them?
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • VJsmum if it's first names only a Cs might be able to sell them but if there are details that make them personal only to you I would be tempted to wrap them in paper and a Jiffy bag and deposit them carefully in the bin (after thanking them of course,;))

  • Get rid. They have already taken up space for 11 years. OH won't miss what he didn't know he had so just don't tell him.

VJs Mum - get rid one way or the other. I'm finding that things that have not seen the light of day for years do not need DH's sanction or they will be kept JIC. As long as they are not his belongings or tools I now take an executive decision :)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I agree. The gift at the time was thoughtful but you never use them. If you keep them, you'll be keeping them because someone (unknown) had them engraved (thereby rendering them useless for future donation). Blame them, and bin the glasses. Otherwise you're letting someone you can't even remember dictate what you keep in your home!

A few years ago we had a 'pot painting' party for a friend's birthday. Great fun, you choose a piece of unglazed pottery, paint or stencil it, while chatting, having drinks and nibbles etc. Then the shop get it glazed and fired. Trouble is that unless you're arty - and I'm not - you end up with a beautifully glazed pot or plate that looks as if it was made by a seven-year old! :rotfl: Why have I hung onto these? the party was great fun, but I don't want to display or use these. (We've had three parties over the years). They're going!

  • Hi all,
You have been a busy bunch! :T
Welcome to all new Konverts too.

Not much Kondoing here. I also spent the weekend doing genealogy.

I know how frustrating it is when you find 3 brothers in the same village who all have sons in the same year and call them the same name! How do you know which is "yours"?

No such problem with an ancestor I discovered this weekend who was called..... Fanny Hazard!! :rotfl: Sounds like a !!!!!! star name! :o

This weekend I also discovered a VERY distant ancestor who had been arrested and charged with... *those of a nervous disposition look away now*... Erm how shall I put this discretely? He was charged with attempting to have erm "marital relations" with a female Great Dane! And no we aren't taking Bridget Nielson, we are talking the 4 legged variety! :o
    As I said, VERY distant!

    Hope all are well.
    Very cold here today xx

Thanks for all the earring advice. Will try fiddling with it first, then see.

The last post has made me see Red Sonja in quite a different light. I'll never look at Arnold Schwarzenegger the same way again!
