  • Okay, so finished the book. Bits of it were odd but something must have stuck. My socks are decluttered and folded, and I've also blitzed the rest of my drawers. 3 wardrobes of hanging space have become 1.5. (haven't folded it all into drawers either,: I 've 60+ listings on eBay and there are 5 full charity bags in the car ready to be dropped off tomorrow. Have also done DD's wardrobe and drawers, which are somewhat the opposite of mine: hers being clothes that fit and for her to grow into and mine clothes that fit and for me to shrink into. :rotfl:

Can I say that I believe HMRC suggest that you keep the last 7 years We have to keep work records that long and was told personal stuff was the same

Ok, thanks for that - nothing has been burned yet so I might just go and fish a few p60's out the bag. I have p45s from lots of jobs too which have gone. I have lots of letters from them with different tax codes and they have all gone too - but are definitely not coming back out. I have kept one wage slip from each job for reminiscing purposes (£3.50 an hour from nearly 20 years ago).

Can I say hello and join you all? I have been reading the thread, and although haven't read the book have picked up lots from you guys. This weekend have kondo'd 30 sachets of stir fry sauce BBE 2012. Also returned two books to people that lent them, rounded up books to go back to the library, and currently kondo'ing a bottle of champagne with OH to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Thanks for inspiring me to start to take control of this place.
  • Welcome V1ckyt, you'll find it's a cumulative thing, we almost all began with underwear and then found the habit spreading.

I need to go back and revisit some categories and I haven't finished yet although the end is in sight, I think - but it's the small triumphs that I find really encouraging. I've got a small decorating job to do, and I know exactly where the brushes, masking tape, and sandpaper are, having Kondoed the decorating supplies a few weeks ago. I also know that I have spare primer and gloss (in tins that aren't rusted shut), so I haven't gone out and spent money on new stuff. That's a first I think (more usually I start the job and then have to rush out to the DIY store halfway through).

You'll be glad you joined us, I guarantee! :T

Help needed - I've a pile of wellies by the back door, however, our back door opens directly into the dining room, so there is a heap of muddy wellies, outdoor shoes piled up on paper or mats, taking up 4ft by 2ft.

Any idea where I can put these? No room in the wardrobes, besides they need to be 100% dry and clean. The long and narrow utility room would be great but the layout doesn't give me room for these.

I appreciate you can't fold a wellie, but there has to be a better way of storing them bearing in mind they are used often.

What about a wellie rack so they look a bit neater or a waterproof storage box (like the mini plastic shed or garden seat ones) that could live in the garden at the back door. If you google 2 tier wely rack or welly wall rack you will find neater ways to store them.

That is more than my 20 yr old DD has been earning for the last year! She has been earning £2.73 per hour - working FT in a special school (so a pretty demanding job!). I think she gets a pay rise this month - up to minimum wage! (She is an apprentice).

SallyA - I think you can get racks for wellies that go outside - they go on upside down, so they don't fill with rain! I have seen them in early years resources catalogues, so there must be an adult equivalent?

5 bags to the CS this afternoon, on my way to the supermarket. I have a few bags in the bedroom to sort through (dolls clothes & some toys). I will see what is worth keeping (I am a childminder, so need different toys for different age groups). There is a plastic castle, but I will see if the children are interested. If not, or if it is too much of a faff to put up and put away each day, it will be out the door!

ETA - there is also a pile of 'technology' to go to the tip tomorrow (hopefully), consisting of 2 old portable TVs (bulky ones), a keyboard, a VCR, 2 DVD players, 1 vacuum cleaner & a laptop. I guess I need to get the hard drive out of the laptop first though.

Delurking for a moment to sing the praises of the CamScanner App. I learned about it on the MumsNet Komono thread late last year.

This app lets you take a photo of your paperwork (like P60s!) and then converts it into a PDF which is also enhances so it looks like a proper doc and not a photo of a doc. You then email it to yourself or store it on the Cloud or...

Anyway, it's helped us liberate lots of paperwork :)

  • Thanks for that tip, Listerbelle.

Sally A, if you Google Wellington boot storage you'll find quite a few ideas but they're mostly variations on the theme of wooden shelf + dowel, I'd be tempted to try a bit of DIY. You could put a rack on the wall to save floor space or even outside if they're stored upside down.
