I'm not in the book nor a business, what I was trying to opt out of was being given the phone book and Yillow Piges. Don't want them, never have wanted them, they just get dumped on the step or, as the new narrow phone book fits into the mailbox, they'd put it in there. Exasperating.
Oh I see! Sorry
Every month, DS receives a magazine from an electrical company. He neither needs nor wants these any more, but can't get the company to stop sending them; he has emailed and rung them (three times) and they promise to take him off their database, but still the bliddy things turn up every month. They just go straight into the recycling, but it's such a waste!0 -
I threw away a mouldy coat hanger just now. My husband had been using it to hang his bath towel on but I think he puts it on there all crumpled up so it explains the mould.
I also looked at my wardrobe and decided that a few more things can go out to recycling/donation.
I tried on a blazer that I bought as I thought it would make me look chic but it makes me look like someone from Hi-de-Hi.
I am also getting rid of some slippers that have lost their shape and a few old tea towels and a few tops that I just don't wear.
No guilt about getting rid of things at all.:)0 -
Morning!
I've done hardly anything at all these past 3 days - been feeling a bit meh, but feel better this morning... especially after kondoing a slab of the Family Fruit Cake that I baked yesterday! :rotfl:I shall have to wrap it in foil (to hide it from myself!) as I have no idea where my cake tin is. I possibly discarded it years ago, as I don't bake normally.
Even feeling, meh, (for various reasons), it has struck me that I'm still happy and positive! I feel invincible!
PollyWollyDoodle and iTwin, I love that easy decisiveness that comes with kondoing! :T
That top of yours, mav, previously it would probably have sat there, in the wardrobe, occasionally being taken out, held up and put back! Like all those things that PollyWD and I have around our homes, which have started irritating us, after years of invisibility!
Now, it is so joyous, to see something that we no longer need, and simply drop it in the CS bag! :j
I'm going to do some of that 'irritational discarding', right now... well away from the cake!
Be happy! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

I have had the idea in our office to box it all up as though we were moving and then only get out things as we need them. One of "the Minimalists" did this with his whole house  and, while i am not going to do anything near so drastic (he got rid of everything left in the boxes after three weeks), I think it might help us gain perspective - or rather get OH to see what we need and don't need and how much easier the office is to use - and how much is JIC or MBU.
One bag I opened yeasterday contains two antique christening gowns. MiL asked if we wanted them, we said no and have got them anyway. Part of MiLs Kondoing vicariously, I think. They are getting on for 100 years old but teeny tiny. I don't think they really make babies that small anymoreI just don't know what to do with them. She doesn't want them, OH doesn't want them, his sister doesn't. But I can't just get rid....
I realise I'm a bit behind with the thread but posting anyway. This charity might be able to use them - they recycle wedding/prom/bridesmaid dresses into outfits for stillborn/miscarried babies.

My Braun food processor is 29 years old, the motor is still going strong but the plastic lid has cracked (it was dropped on my tiled floor, otherwise I think it would still be as good as new) and you can't get spares for it. Every time I haul it out of the cupboard I think it must be the last time I'll use it ... I wonder if I can get a replacement? I'm off to Amazon.
The Lakeland catalogue is reading for pleasure. I love their products but rarely buy stuff these days because I don't need anything, but it's a happy day when it comes through the letter-box as I enjoy reading it over a cuppa - and then discarding. And I love to marvel over the latest gadgets, and reflect that I neither need nor want them!
Polly this is the one

BUT, just in the three weeks since I bought it, the price has gone up massively from £104 which is what I paid to £126:eek::eek:
It looks like it pays to monitor prices - seems like they can go up or down significantly depending on the EuroIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Hello everyone,
Another lurker coming out of hiding to join in! I read The Book a few months ago (got it from the library :money:) and then lo and behold, found this thread! It's lots of fun seeing how everyone here is getting on.
I can't believe how different I am in my attitude to 'stuff' now- I have boxes of stuff from my attic (previously couldn't move in there- barely anything now, and what is there is packed carefully in clear boxes so you can see it) now in my living room waiting for a car boot. I am also going to my parents' house next weekend to tackle the stuff I have in their attic (it's full and nearly all mine!)
Lots of talk about handbags here- can I suggest one of these?

I like to switch my handbags up a lot and this has made it so much easier! No longer finding dozens of packets of tissues, chewing gum or paracetamol lurking in the bottom of bags!"I don’t keep up with the Joneses, I try to drag them down to my level" - Quentin Crisp0 -
Managed to fit all five plastic boxes worth of photos into two nice wooden boxes, about a carrier bags worth of photos got shredded as they wee blurry backs of heads, boring scenery or in some cases people I just plain didn't recognise!!
Did a shift at work then hospital appt with mil.
Afterwards I asked her why she has a stack of drawers in the back room, she'd taken them out of a chest of drawers in the cupboard and the carcass had promptly collapsed. Went through the contents of the drawers with her which resulted in a binbag of rubbish, a few bits being put into the desk drawers and a drawer filled with garage filler that Dh can go through and see what if anything is worth saving. (Please god none of it) the drawers and carcass are mdf and very old so I told her we will break it down properly at the weekend and dispos of it for her.SPC~12 ot 124

Today we removed everything from under the bed, gave it a good hoover, got another bag full of rubbish and nearly another 2 bags full of clothes and bits and pieces for the CS. Also moved the bedside drawers out and had a good clean behind there.
I need to get some new underbed storage, currently I have wooden things on wheels, but they're falling apart. Thinking plastic would be better maybe.
I need to finish sorting my jumpers and shoes out. Then onto jeans and underwear and I think the bedroom will finally be done0 -
Just kondoed a top in the wardrobe it just suddenly came into my head and I was compelled to drag it off the hanger and drop it in to the chazzer bagDoes anyone else get that feeling or is it just me.
No not just you - i had a similar top that has now gone and i am going through a process with a cut glass rose bowl. i am just not a cut glass rose bowl kind of girl but it has sat on top of a bookcase for years and years. As someone said "invisible clutter". That;s it - it's going.I realise I'm a bit behind with the thread but posting anyway. Thanks - i am definitely going to contact them in regard to my wedding dress but don't feel i can do this with 100 year old christening gowns. At least until I have exhausted other options. I am a bit cross with MiL for putting me in this position when I had already told her I didn't want them, but she sent them home with OH anyway :mad:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
