My problem is being on a pretty low income, discarding stuff that I would need to replace, thinking in particular of a winter coat I don't like, but need, how did you tackle that?
We do have quite a lot of charity shops and a dress agency where I live, so I guess I could replace it pretty cheaply if I decide to dispose of it.
Loving reading about your journeys.
I'd keep it for the time being - the joy from it coming from the fact that it keeps you warm (and being cold is decidedly in-joyful) but I'd have a list of things to look out for (eg: my clothes Kondo revealed I could really do with a couple more cardigans to layer up with for work for the cold months) and look in the charity shops with the list to hand. Do not fall into the trap of buying another coat unless it is joyful;) just because 'it'll do' - a life of joy is not about it'll dox
Personal KMing here on a bit of a hold. M-I-law died unexpectedly yesterday so we are sorting that out. She lives about a mile away from us and we own her property, so that makes it easier, but have already got rid of a lot of paperwork, general rubbish and recycling, half used make up, spices which she had since my husband was a teenager  (he's 45!!) and all prescription drugs to pharmacy and have started bagging up her clothes for charity. Funeral won't be for another 10-12 days but I'd like to have a lot of stuff sorted by then, leaving the place with just things like photos, books etc for people to sort through. Will leave bedding, towels and toiletries (and tea, coffee etc) as family will end up staying there on and off between now and funeral but will strip the beds and change the towels and wash it all so it's all fresh for anyone there. M-I-l used to be a dreadful hoarder but - thankfully- over the last few years changed. Due to medical conditions leaving her often confused her paperwork is very muddled but am slowly getting there. I need to deliver her motability car back to a local dealer in the next couple of days, so will need OH to follow me, as it's too far to walk back - unless dealer will drop me back home, maybe.... may have to investigate that.
It definitely reinforces the need not to have too much stuff, though. Thankfully she is much better than my dad was - his place could have been one of those hoarder ones on the tv - just muddled paperwork to sort. We were thinking of persuading her to move to somewhere with some assistance on site and putting an enduring PofA in place only on Weds night - and then this happened! Greent so sorry to read of the sudden passing of your mil. My deepest condolences to you and your family.SPC~12 ot 124
In a world that has decided that it's going to lose its mind, be more kind my friend, try to Be More Kind0 -
Greent - sorry to hear about your MIL. Condolences to you and your husband xx
Carolbee - like someone else said, hold on to the coat until you find one that DOES bring you joy. There is no joy in freezing.
Juliebunny - I'm the opposite re my laundry. These days I'm much more likely to put it away ASAP than pre KM. Today I stripped the beds, washed the bedding, hung it out, once dry I brought it in and ironed it! It's now neatly folded and in the airing cupboard. I'm quite proud of the turnaround time for that! Lol
I've also found ironing is MUCH easier if I iron straight from the washing line rather than items folded in a washing basket for a few days.
This week I've Kondoed stationery. Quite enjoyed it and the top two desk drawers have shallow cardboard boxes in of various sizes to hold pens, pencils, stapler, etc.
My landing is looking a mess at the moment because I have lots of empty boxes there ready for my next Kondo area!Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

greent: so sorry to hear about your MIL xx
I have discovered a carrier bag full of old necklaces that have been shoved in the wardrobe since I moved (3 years ago) Needless to say separating them is not proving an easy job! Most of them are going in the bin or to the CS, but there's a few I want to save!0 -
Greent, so sorry for your loss
The job's got to go....... It may take a while but the exit strategy starts today after an absolute farce of an away day.....
I have started emptying handbag when I come in, it does make it easier in the morning as I know thT I have everything I need without rummaging through it.
I don't thank it thoughI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

My sympathies Greent to you and your family for your loss
Had a brainwave this morning when I was about to deliver to the CS the pots & vases that had accumulated over the years. I know the lady who runs our local flower shop & asked her if they would be of any use - she was delighted as she often does displays & talks & often needs more vases - result!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Evening, Konverts!
No kondoing done to day, apart from normal trash and recycling. Ended up with a load of telephone calls after recieving post. None of it turned out to be anything 'life-changing', but I needed to check, and got the usual game of 'find the right person to speak to'!
A friend rang for a long call, and then, I spent the afternoon with a local friend, whom I haven't seen for rather a long while. So, a joyful day, in the end!
I'm going to have another look at my tee-shirts. I realised, last night that I have a drawerful... and most I have not worn this summer! So, another cull is on the cards, for tomorrow, along with other summer clothes that I may have mistakenly kept! :j
I'm planning to clear a load of komono off a single divan in the spare bedroom, so the bed can be collected. That will be a major victory, and much more SPACE! Especially as at least half the komono can leave, too.
I'm off to kondo the remains of my wonderful bouquet, which has brought me so much joy for the past 3 weeks.
Have a great weekend everyone! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j
