:T Well done to all for your process of the KM method.
This week I have continued to wear a different eye shadow every day to see if I like them or not. Another 3 have gone in the bin.
OH has finished off transferring his DVD's from their case into a DVD folder. 4 large plastic boxes from the garage have been emptied. All DVD's are now stored in 4 DVD folders which is saving us lots of space.

Got rid of a few more bags to the CS this week. Strangely when it's gone I can't really remember very much about what went out!
I guess that shows how little we need so much of our stuff.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -

I have mental and occasionally audible convos with myself. Today's one runs like this;
OK, you replaced the defunct Oral Bee rechargable toothbrush with a new one of the same brand in the last hour. That means that you have a spare charging stand. I mean, it probably works, right? That means you could take that to the parental home and leave it there so you don't have to take it with you when you visit for a few days, saving weight in your luggage. Plus the anxiety of having left it behind at home or, worse, behind at their home. Having a spare at the other place would be handy, right?
Counter-arguments.
1. It might not be compatible. It might even hurt the new toothbrush somehow.
2. It's not really very bulky or heavy. I travel with the wally-trolley, so not like I'm weighing-in airport luggage.
3. I preach decluttering, I shouldn't clutter the spare bedroom at their house with a toothbrush charger I'd use about once every 8 weeks. Even though it's a hoarder-ish house and would be a pinprick sized dot in an ocean of clutter - it'd still be hypocritical of me to do it.
4. I should get the toothbrush and charger up to the electrical recycling bit at the tip so that they can be rejoined into the waste stream.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi I have 1 of the bag organisers, but as it only fits in bigger bags I can't always use it,and I do find it has too many pockets  so I can't find what I need.
My bag basics are keys, purse, card holder, umbrella, phone, and folding bag.
Which is a M and S one from years ago yellow with twiggy on the front, very strong (double thick nylon) with straps log enough to put on shoulder,or tie if I want to carry by hand. It seems to hold enormous amount!
I need to see if they still do them as the new bag legislation comes into force in England to charge for clothing bags,in October.
I have bought cheap one before to leave in car but it was rubbish and the handles fell apart.
My jewellery is in ikea wardrobe with divided draw, and necklaces are hung on hooks (wardrobe was left by dd2 when she moved out so thanks to her for great organisation of jewellery );)
The velcro has come for the folding screen so need to look at attaching the material, it was pleated originally so need to play around to see how it will work.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Katsu - yes, I'd say 10 years is plenty!
That raises a question I have for you all. How long should gifts be kept that don't spark joy and will never be used? My mil always brings me something from her holidays, general rubbish like a mug or tea towel. I don't like the stuff and would gladly bin it straight away but feel she might be looking for it in the house when she visits! Can it be given as a gift and discarded immediately? Or is that very rude and ungrateful?

Can anyone remember the fundraising discussion about ''trash or treasure" I think it was m a v y m o o (whoops cannot override spellchecker on this tablet!)
Can you tell me how it works please ?0 -
My condolences greent.
A friend bought me one of those handbag organisers so I could transfer the contents from bag to bag if I chose. I find it useful because my current favourite bag only has limited pockets. But I'm lazy and don't change my bag from day, in fact I only ever change it for special occasions like weddings. Am I alone?
How do people store jewellery? I don't do costume jewellery but I have some gold that I wear and other bits (mostly inherited) that give me joy thet I wear occasionally. Is the traditional jewellery box (complete with revolving, tuneful ballerina;)) dead?
Thanks for that. I'll wear my much loved (but can't find a replacement) winter coat with much joy when the time comes.
I feel ashamed listening to your turnaround on the bedding. What I like about the days I wash the towels and bedding is that no ironing's involved. I never iron bedding.:o:o:o
I only use one bag too.
My parents bought me some of these Stackers jewellery boxes http://www.johnlewis.com/search?Ntt=stackers&Nty=1&_requestid=3785840 which I really like because you buy more compartments and add to it to make it however you want.
For necklaces I used to have little hooks screwed to the inside of the wardrobe which worked really well, I was just lazy and never got round to putting them up in the new wardrobe
Love that mirror Bluefire posted, I need one!
Today I need to finish my jewellery and makeup organisation. Going to pop out and see if I can find another drawer tower that's made from baskets (not sure I described that very well!) but I figured something like that would be useful for keeping my hair stuff in next to the dressing table
OH and I might attempt to paint the sideboard I got from freecycle (2 years ago) which I always had the intention of painting and using as a TV stand.

I'm going to sound rude with this, but I honestly toss/donate gifts that aren't suitable immediately. No sense them cluttering up my house and I've never once been asked "where's such-and-such that I gave you?" when someone comes round. Eventually I'll convince everyone to stop giving DH and I things, but some people (our mothers in particular!) are hard to stop.3forholidays wrote: »I'm another that doesn't change handbags.
My bag is a small cross body one and only contains: purse, smartphone, sanitary protection, small coin purse (containing some money - in case my purse is stolen or debit card doesn't work!), pen, keys, inhaler & batteries (for my hearing aids).
Trying to get a folding fabric bag in a pouch for clothes shopping as I live in Scotland and we currently are charged 5 pence per carrier bag but the ones that I have looked at all have long handles. I am looking for a small one with short handles. My mum has one that's ideal but it was a gift so don't know where it was purchased. In the meantime I'll just borrow that!
What does everyone else carry around in their handbags? Some people have such large bags!
I love my M&S folding bag but it is large. For smaller ones, I've had good luck at Whole Foods in London as they sell small fabric lunch bags. I'd say most health food/eco friendly shops would carry something similar, might be the kind of thing you're looking for?
As for handbags... I have one large bag that is used 95% of the time. Even though it's large, I only keep necessities in it every day. Purse, phone, keys, travel pass, headphones (for commuting peace if there's noisy people on the train) and a small umbrella. I could use a smaller bag but I don't like carrying multiple bags, so the extra space it means I can pop in my lunch on work days, a cardigan if I'm going somewhere that might be chilly, small purchases made while out, etc.
The other 5% of the time is for events or if I'm really not in the mood to carry the large bag, in which case I'll swap out to a small cross-body one.0
