The KonMarie method

VJsmum: Send DS to me - teenage boys are my forte!
I remember a big row I had with DS when he was 19. He was moody because he couldn't get his Morrisey hair to stand up correctly one day. I had serious money worries, and blew my stack!
Later, I realised that this was probably a very serious worry for him at that age, and apologised. Sometimes it's hard to see what are major crises for our children, when compared with our RL crises.
Good luck, with the Mins on Monday! I avoid those deadline methods of discarding - doing MK at a leisurely pace, is pressure enough! :rotfl:

I do apologise if I go too far - the other day I backed off as I realised that I was being too fussy.
the Min's game is a one off, and I am not sure how far I will get but it feels like a good way to get rid of some Komono - and I am still kind of doing it by category. So, for eg, on the 20th, how do I find 20 things - grabbing a file of paperwork and discarding seems a good way.
I know I have a charity bag to be collected tomorrow - that will take everything, even bric a brac. So I will put this weekends 11 items into that.
I am currently in dads house and, my goodness, I should like to get my hands on the stuff in here - but, alas, I can't.
Really enjoyed the link to the fashion industry. Definitely food for thought - I think Peopletree come out as the most ethical, so I will look there first in future. After the chazzers, of course.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

The Kon Marie method was mentioned on BBC radio 5 this morning at 7.50 (if you want to listen again). Bit sound bitey, but very surprised. Word is getting round.0

Morning Everyone! :coffee:
Welcome, Elaine12022! Well done on your achievements!
MK's order of categories is based on her idea of 'easy to hard', which gradually builds up ruthlessness and intolerance of Stuff we really don't need. It also strengthens our motivation. However, individuals may swap the categories around for various reasons, if that suits them better.
In some cases, it is easier, to break categories into sub-categories, because of time or space constraints, especially for the amount of carp I've got! I am also, packing individual categories in boxes, pre-kondoing - I would rather have a room cluttered with a heap nagging boxes than piled with random clutter.
Thanks for the audio link - we have to keep repeating links for newbies/lurkers... when we remember!
Susan1962: You're doing well! Great to hear you are noticing a difference.
mav: Thanks for reminding us to wear our best clothes daily! But, doing the chickens... maybe a step to far for joyful red boots? :rotfl:
GQ: Duplicates are not unbelievable, when a house is really cluttered! I found 2 books, that I had bought (s/h) twice! And I'm sure there will be other Stuff! I know that I have a complete collection of knitting needles (somewhere!) that haven't been used for the past 26 years. I took up knitting again, 8 years ago. So, I now have a second collection!
My 2-3 year effort to cut out buying non-essentials, means that I'm happy to admit to only 2 cans of foods that eat regularly! And I spent £16 on clothes last year. :rotfl:
fpcat: Congratulations on the kitchen! I haven't done mine yet, but I can feel the urge to tackle it coming on!
I also love the way some things we've been blind to, or hidden, start nagging - it's a real thrill to discard them... another victory! :j
PollyWollyDoodle: I have been relaxing, before bedtime, by browsing P1nterest for free sewing patterns - there are loads, including some really nice 'plus size'. (Although, check your actual measurements, because, I'm, apparently, NOT a plus size, which I believed! :rotfl:)
There are also lots of free websites (via P1nterest) that teach pattern drafting from simple to professional level! Something I'm planning to get back into, when I (eventually!) finish kondoing!
A Frayed Knot: Replacing things is OK, when necessary, but after careful thought.
Right, I'm off to continue making a difference! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!

Am I the only one that read about the stockpile of 80 loo rolls and thought "amateur"?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

The start date for DS to start nursery is getting closer which means I will be able to read the book (again!) and actually start uninterrupted
Yesterday I took DD & DS to see my Oma, so their Great Grandmother, she spoilt them with new clothes and me with homemade HerringSalat. I'm now sitting on the sofa scoffing (kondoing!) it straight from the washed out coffee jar that she sent me home with yum!!!
DH loathes it so much he has banned me from eating it in his presence and DD just tried a bit a spat it out, so aaaallll mine, mwahahaha
Today I signed up for my selliers number at the next nearly new sale so will Kondo 8-10 bi bags of winter clothing that DD & DS have grown out of and hopefully coming back with a few bargains. As the group treasurer I will be working at the sale so get early digs at the bargainsWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
VJsmum: I'm glad you and DS are friends again! I didn't mean to preach (born teacher!) but it hadn't occurred to me, before the Morrisey hair incident that children's crises are relative to experience - especially when they think they adults! Thought the anecdote would be useful to OPs.
backing off, for me has only come over the past year. (Slow learner!)
Thanks for the MIns heads up - I hadn't thought of it like that. I did try it, years ago, and it failed miserably!
Sorry to hear that you can't tackle your DF's Stuff, it must be very frustrating, when you are addicted to discarding!
That link I stumbled on, was an eye-opener for me - the average weekly clothes-spend - but particularly the way that it could be spent on better quality items. I think there must be people who spend more, by buying lots of cheapies, when buying better would save money in the longer term.
I shall be making most of my clothes, with decent quality fabrics/yarn, so that should work for me. (More Boho style!) :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

Yup, that was exactly my thought on reading that - my TP inventory was double that at the time. I have brought it down considerably, since.
I've not done any kondo-ing today, unless you count turning giant marrows into ingredients for all sorts of things - have gardened this morning and batch-cooked this afternoon. Pretty pooped now but pleased that I have grub lined up for the work-week ahead, and some for the freezer.
I was suffering from itchy fingers when passing the communal bins in these past few days. They're brimful and the lids are up and I can see that most of the excess is stuff which belongs in the recycling bins beside the refuse bins. And it it'd been separated properly, the refuse bins wouldn't be backed up and looking gross. I forced myself not to glove up and stage an intervention, but it was a toughie.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I am the expert at Chazzer shopping :rotfl:I would say 95% of clothes I buy are from Charity shops. You do get good at spotting good quality and brands pretty quickly. I would never buy Prim*rk in a million years from the store or chazzer.
Everything I buy is what I couldnt afford to buy new.If I could afford it new I wouldnt buy it unless I really did love it which would be very rare.
I will rarely buy from the shops like I did with my jeans but that would be about once every 3 years :rotfl:
Friends give me lists and I have notes of all thier sizes and what they are looking for :rotfl:in my purse.Nearly all DH clothes come from Chazzers as well.
Next year I am going to do a challenge of buying what ever I need secondhand and not new:D and see how well I can do with that one
I think buying one quality item is so much better than buying 5 cheap items.
Very good link iTwin it does make you think and what about the girls whos bag split and she just left it  Didnt even bother to pick them up. Crazy

Evening all. I kondoed my crockery cupboard today after purchasing a half price dinner service (£15) from Sainbugs yesterday. At last everything is white and I have 8 of it all. So all the oddments can now go.
It gave me the motivation to carry on and kondo the bottom food cupboards and the cooking dishes cupboard. All the dusty dishes have been boxed for charity (after a wash) and the well used things moved to the small cupboard bottom shelf. Top shelf is now breakfast, crackers and bread-type things. This left the larger corner cupboard empty and ready for tin cans (bottom shelf), with veg and grains/pasta packets on the top shelf. They look a bit bare but I need to get some box lids or something to easily pull things in and out. I would love to hear anyone's ideas for easily using cupboards in the corner please - you know the space that you have to almost climb into the cupboard to get to.
I also kondoed the tea towels and made a start on the pinnys. The last major kondo job in the kitchen is the huge junk drawer. There are a few other small areas to sort out but very minor jobs compared to everything I've already done. Each part of this kondo journey leaves me feeling more in control, calmer and content.
Hopefully the fun can then begin, sorting out my sewing room, chalkpainting things etc.:):)
