I don't 'get' / can't be bothered to do all the folding and samosa-ing though :p

Dont worry, when the England catches up with the rest of the UK there will be a whole new art form of folding of 'shoppers':p I only have about a half dozen flimsy carrier bags at any one time now, because I refuse to pay! I tend to pull them firmly from each end to make a long elongated piece then roll as if rolling string and then knot. Forms a neat knotted little ball - was taught this in a keeping your child safe thing when my first child was born - a knotted plastic bag is unlikely to be un knotted by a child very easily..............its now just habit with any plastic bag:D

At that 'mess before the space stage' again but finding the discarding quite easy at the moment :D

silvasava It is a sad story and I would feel the same but the thing is what do we do with these things that someone has cherished ? We dont want them in our homes so I suppose we have to let them go to someone who will love them and then the cycle starts all over again.

I guess for me I'd like to find one thing that reminds me of happy memories of that person, something I love that makes me smile everytime I see it, then display it somewhere I can see it everyday.

So, what about you guys, what is your favourite single item of clothing?

At the moment my Ironman t-shirt! It reminds me of my last UK trip, I like it's vintage print, I like that it's a small and I can fit inot it and I'm happy when I wear it!

I thought I'd post my plan for tomorrow.

Still too much bathroom clutter. I realise that there's a whole basket of make up on the side when at this time of the year I use just a few bits from my make up bag (even that has far more than I need in there).

So I'm going to Kondo the bathroom cupboard to create space so all the 'spare'/winter make up can be put away and then find a home for my make up bag. If MK can put her handbag away every night then I can do the same with my make up bag.

Hope no one minds me posting in advance. It helps me feel a bit accountable:).

    Morning

I am trying to learn the lessons of why I bought/kept all these things in the first place and I am determined not to repeat my mistakes. Yes some stuff will be wasted but its all part of the process and I hope to live the rest of my life only bringing into the house things that I actually need.

And I cant wait until it is finished and I have a little extra time! I want to redecorate too. Well actually I want to move house but thats a way off.

 mav, you'll end up nekkid if you don't watch out!

I shall be spending most of the day at w**k (boo! hiss!) and then making a visitoid to a pal on the way home. Have loosely decided to print off a travel diary from the pooter and then get it spiral bound at the copyshop into the covers I made for it (made over 12 months ago, shamefully) as that's one of my nagging projects.:o

Have also had a Thought about a coat which I have which is pale and requires dry-cleaning every second year. I paid a pittance for the coat but the on-costs are going to be there for the duration, and will make a cheap coat into a costlier one. Will be looking for an alternate coat in the chazzers/ TK Maximus, preferably something which can go through the washer when necessary. Part of my ongoing desire to simplfy. As there is no urgency, I can wait until I see something just right at just the right price.

I'm now half way down the pile of textile recycling carrier bags brought from the parental home to mine (my chazzer sells it on for rags and is pleased to have it, theirs doesn't). Feel good about assisting some items out of the hoarded parental house.

It's a win-win, as it makes life easier for my seventy-something parents and will mean that, in the fullness of time, I won't have to deal with it.

Done a freezer on saturday. Dogs still smiling at having enjoyed the freezer burnt meat.

Realise I need to stop buying and start eating. 2 big chest freezers full and another house freezer drawers crammed full. am definitely a hoarder of food.
Good luck. This took me 7 months (I'm still using up some stuff that clearly I shouldn't have bought. I'm also still eating through my pulses and grains.

:o Scoosh up on that soap box, ladies, it bothers me, too. I flinch when I see the perfectly good stuff going over the side at the tip, stuff which could have been donated or even sold, but is being broken by the fall.

Our local tips do a LOT of rescuing and reselling. One of my neighbours has been banned from going by his wife as he comes back with more than he took...

I picked up a Tripp-Trapp high chair for a fiver a while ago. I just need to take it apart, sand it down and repaint it, as chipped purple isn't really what I was looking for. But it has already been used...

Inspring posts as always. Thank you, esp MavvyMoo.
I was talking to a friend at work who's partner has ocd. His life is so out of control in many ways that he sees having the house immaculate as the one place he can feel he's in control.

I'm starting to understand what you mean about how this process does start to change lots of unexpected areas of your life. Oh and weirdly, I'm starting a learn to canoe course in 2 days!!

Had an unexpected visitor to stay at short notice last night. Previously this would have terrified me but actually the house had been cleaned and it took me less than 5 minutes to clear the spare room, even though that's the epicenter of each Kondo category. Well chuffed with this progress and even managed to Kondo some off bananas into a loaf using eggs from some ex batts I recently rescued and added in some back of the cupboard cooking chocolate to use it up! !! Yummy!

Funnily enough Skeeter the man had enlarged a group family photo of my Grandparents, father & Aunt & uncle and framed it for me as a thank you for helping him with his computer. It hangs on my landing wall where I can see it from my bedroom & is a lovely reminder of my friend.
GQ - I'm another one who cannot stand the wanton waste we have in our society - DH has skip dived and retrieved timber for kindling and a steel RSJ from our next door neighbour (he did ask!) & I'm nipping in to our local tip cos the freezer I was given needs a drawer.
Just thrown a pair of moccasins out that gave me such Joy they were worn beyond repair - on a mission now for a replacement.
Have a good day all x

PS: Just seen an ad for learning the Trapeze - looks interesting Mavvy - it will be going on my list ;)

I did the last of clothing last night. Had a basket of underwear stashed in my cupboard- bits that didnt quite fit but I never returned to the shop.

So I had a good sort through, some will keep, but only a few. There are some that have the tags on so will pop those to CS along with whatever looks obviously unworn.

Swapped a few pairs of knicks for some older ones that were folded in my drawer, and have kept a few sets for "special occasions" - it is nice having matching undies :)

Also had a bit of a tidy in the conservatory - mostly a playroom. Liberated many bits of carp including squeaking minion toys from McDonald's which are never played with, and other bits of tat that gets ignored. One carrier bag full ready to go. I know we are supposed to do it all at once but honestly, I'm not sure I could cope with that for toys!

It's all well and good but the book seems to assume we all live in just one room, and only own clothes, paperwork, books and komono. No mention of all the DIY carp, camping carp, kiddies carp or even kitchen carp!

On that note, I will stop distracting myself from the paid stuff...
