That's a difficult one, but I've just lovingly folded and put away a bright pink (not my usual colour) cardigan. It's at least three years old, and I've had to darn a hole in the sleeve but I really really like wearing it. the feeling I get from that is the feeling I'd like to have from all my clothes.
Re food hoarding; that definitely strikes a chord. I have a freezer full of food but nothing to eat!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

My favourite items are dresses too.
I have one that was about £8 from Asda that is just a jersey day dress for summer, it's mostly black but with a geometric pattern but the cut just fits me perfect.
I have ample boobage so sometimes hard to find dresses without darts that fit both top and bottom, without either bagging under the arms or pulling across the chest.
I also have a "going out" dress that looks like tapestry, but is actually the softest printed Jersey. It's ankle length on my 5'8" frame where lots of maxi dresses flap about mid-shin for me.
Have just binned a bag of massive cotton reels (sorry granny) I think they might have been for an overlocker (never had one myself) but they've been sat there since she died 2.5yrs ago and the bag just split when I picked it up to move it. I got cross and put it in the bin. Relieved. Yes I know I should have freegled them, but I didnt. Bah.Bossymoo

I've been guilty of binning stuff which *should* have been recycled (involving a trip to the recycling centre by car, possibly having to take small children), *could* have been freegled etc just to get rid of it out of my house quicker. I am usually a great believer in recycling/ reusing/ gifting but sometimes the space matters to me more. It's quite a 'here and now' attitude and I don't have it often, but it sometimes rears its head.....:oI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
I refolded my t-shirt drawer on Sunday. I had it sorted by type (plain, patterned, tanks, etc) and in narrow rows running backwards. Decided to fold them so they took up the entire depth of the drawer, so they're in a single row across. Now they're in rainbow order and giving me much joy. Although I don't have a rainbow so much as a trio of colours.
My favourite piece of clothing is actually the one I wear the least, but it's a royal blue jersey wrap dress. Picked it up on clearance in John Lewis and I get SO many compliments whenever I wear it. Doesn't really fit into my country homebody life, but works perfectly for the occasional London event I have to attend.0 -

So, what about you guys, what is your favourite single item of clothing?
I have a black and white maxi dress that I love, fits me perfectly, lovely soft jersey and it was a bargain a couple of years ago in the N*xt sale. I have no boobs but with a bit of padding it makes me look quite shapely!
I took 2 bags to the cs yesterday and realised my downfall is buying stuff in the sale or on ebay just because its cheap. I came out of the shop quickly without looking.
Oh and I am all for chucking stuff in the bin if it just needs to go. Better that than just keeping it with the intention of recycling/selling it later.0 -
I was having a clear out last night and a friend came round unannounced for a long chat/advice session. I made the tea and steered the conversation upstairs where I was mid throws of Kondoing my 'sewing/crafty' stuff (no harm in multi-tasking, especially as mostly I was just required to listen with the occasional nod), including loads of hand me downs from my no longer here mum. I always have 3 piles - bin, chazza and keep (and sometime a 4th pile for tbc...). As I was putting stuff into the bin pile, he was picking it out, saying 'what's wrong with that, you could use that, what if they don't make that thread in that colour any more' - OMG I was in the presence of a hoarder :rotfl: I said 'help yourself, but it's probably nearly as old as I am'. He then sort of hrumphed and put in back in the same pile!
Put an old bike on freecycle and no-one has even inquired about it - can't even GIVE my stuff away! Took a considerable amount of effort to get it out the shed, photographed, join the website and then post the ad! Also, put on my old laminate underlay, brand new, but no takers so that, very sadly, went out this morning as it's bin day. I knew if I left it there another week, I would convince myself again 'it might come in handy' (my mothers favourite catchphrase!) Bike is still on there but if it's not gone Friday, I've found out that Halfords will take it for reconditioning and then goes to a bike charity. Will be a bit of hassle to get it there, but somethings are worth a bit more effort than others.
Favourite clothes...oooh, I've got this cream/white Marilyn Monroe dress (like the one where she is stood over the air gril and her dress blows up). I have had it YEARS, but NEVER worn it. But it stays because I just love it!! One day, it will get an outing.....:D
Had a sudden panic attack over the weekend too - what will I do with myself once I've finished this project :eek:Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
I'm not sure I can isolate one favourite item of clothing that sparks joy. I suppose that's because it depends what sort of occasion I'm dressing for. I have a gorgeous black silk jersey Episode dress but that's just for black tie occasions. I equally love my new, skinny black jeans but that's partly because they're a small size 12 and they fit!!:rotfl:
At the moment I'm working through various areas and making sure there's no accumulated 'stuff' that can go to CS or the bin then making sure everything is put away in it's correct current home and in a category. As space is cleared then some items are finding new homes. My current target is to get everything stored inside fitted cupboards or 'joyful' chests of drawers etc so no additional 'storage' units like today's baskets.
I hope that makes sense. I've cleared two baskets today from under chairs in the dining room so the only paperwork that's not in the study is insurance policies. I'm working on that.;)
I've made a start on culling my recipe files. I have a loose leaf folder for 'tried and tested' and a box of bits cut out from magazines or printed that 'might fancy one day'. I've culled them and taken out all the duplicates (printed off because I lost the original) and the unhealthy ones that wouldn't fit in with the way I eat now. So I have a small pile of 'recipes' to try and the others are all known favourites.:)0
