Still Kondoing here but slowed down as working (volunteering) yesterday in local CS. Today is OHs only day off this week so we are heading out on a historic Scotland trip to a local castle.
I have decided to kondo my old gas fire and replace it with a wood burning stove. Been wanting to do this for years so I am really excited now I have decided to go for it.
So far I have done:
Clothes (still a couple of dresses in there that might go)
Jewellery
make-up and toiletries
Upstairs books - a few being sold on Amazon
Paperwork
My gift, cards and wrapping paper stash - it looks so good now and much easier to access with vertical storage.
My craft stash - fabric, wool etc
Currently working on bedding and towels plus throws, cushions etc. Will be finished these by mid-week I hope.0 -
Kondoing komono again - it seems endless. The kitchen just seems to magically fill up when I'm not looking. Anyway there are at least a couple of empty shelves now to move things into but am determined not to move them till I've given them the MK test.
I think I may have finished clothing (although, to be fair, I think that every time LOL) but this time it's had more of an effect. Like a couple of other posters this process has led me to re-examining style choices. I've always had a leaning towards Boho but generally have had the kind of work that didn't encourage that in the dress code. As most of the things that have gone out are the structured jackets, little neat blouses, etc, it's made me realise that I do still prefer Boho but need to find a version of it that will work at work, if that makes sense?
So here's the plan: simpler patterns and shapes but in the style I like - ankle/floor length skirts and plain tops paired with funky accessories. I'm not sure if I've hit the mark yet but a sort of modified steampunk look? Short jackets, long skirts or dresses, hair up, etc. Now I'm 53 and realise that I have to be careful not to veer over into "mutton" territory but if I keep the lines simple with muted/soft colours and patterns at work and keep the funkier stuff for weekends, I'm hoping it'll work. Any comments or suggestions? All gratefully received!Looking ahead0 -
I stumbled across some ideas for Boho for us more mature ladies on Pinterest the other day. Twiggy, Elle McPherson, Joanna Lumley all rock the boho look very successfully - might be worth googling them for images to give you some ideas.
I think the success to avoiding the Mutton Look is to avoid showing too much flesh.
So the golden rule is Boobs or legs - never the two together. So if you are wearing a low cut top, then don't wear them with mini skirts.:rotfl:
Also, unless you have nice firm abs then avoid anything too clingy. Muffin tops and podgy midriffs aren't a good look, so go for fabrics that skim over the body rather than clinging too tightly.
Oh and go easy on the leopard print.......a little bit is fun, too much and you're getting into cougar territory.
I know what you mean about kitchen kimono. I kondoed the kitchen recently, it's time for another go.0 -
Been awol for a while and have not quite caught up with the thread, so want to get back on track now it is the summer hols that I know if I start to read that will be an hour gone. It would be a shame to waste my current tidy up mood!Don’t put it down - put it away!

:rotfl: I really struggle with leopard print - always makes me think of an 80s Bet Lynch
I like the boho look too - but work in an office 2 days a week where business wear is the norm. I generally go for plain dark trousers and a smart top rather than a suit as such but it feel soul-less.Bossymoo

My DD2 steadfastly refuses to sort through her stuff or clean her room. Today her twin and I decided that we would try tidying by stealth. She won't let me buy her a wardrobe or new drawers to put her stuff in and says she prefers to keep her clothes in basket!
We took all her clothes out and I sorted and folded into categories. All the time I was folding her twin was saying,"she doesn't wear that... Throw it away". I didn't throw anything except the underwear that is way too big- she has lost some weight.
I know she will moan when she gets back from work but her stuff is the only room left and it is driving me MAD!De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

So spooky iTwin.I have been searching new hairstyles and lipsticks :)So bored of my hair its untrue
Its never cut or coloured how I want it. So spent yesterday looking up reviews on Hairdressers in Norwich so if you want to have a look at the reviews and see if you think the same one as me
I would be grateful for your opinion
And if your book is that bad you may as well do something else :-)
I have kondo'd every bit of make-up I ownI have not got 1 item left and will go and try out some new on Friday and replace the lot
The colour lady also does makeup advice
which is part of the service so can start from scratch with a few items which I will use
I am feeling pretty damn good with all the changes going on
Your hairstyles sound an excellent choice for your new boho look

My advice on hairdressers probably wouldn't be very helpful - I haven't visited mine for over 3 years - he probably thinks I've died!I will have a look though.
I've always found that word-of-mouth is a good guide. Ask your friends, or even the woman with well-cut hair, in the supermarket queue!)
At present I tend to wear my waist-length hair held back with 2 slides, or roughly pinned in an 'old-lady' high ballerina bun! :rotfl:Either way, I love the fact that bottom of my hair is clearly brunette, while the hair round my face is grey to white! The bun looks fabulous with the 2 colours twisting together! And all natural! I love it.
I love Brigette Bardot's hair and was surfing that, before coming across some other styles that resonate too. Hope I look as wonderful as her in 10 years time!
Growing old naturally, is key for me (cos I'm doing quite well at the moment) and the Kondo changes are making me even more happy about myself... even one of the carppy family members has started being less carppy! :T Happiness is obviously contagious and I intend to start an epidemic!
Your colour consultation sounds pretty comprehensive and should give you a good basis for the future - just don't let Life get in the way again, of your natural style evolution. (Just had a vision of you in your bath-chair... still wearing hot-pants! :rotfl:
Today, I've stripped my bed (family traditions die hard, even though the laundry may not be done on Mondays!) Piled on my bed is the 'maybe' pile of clothes, sorted into types, ready and waiting for the 'cuddle and question', along with some colour management. Sadly, I've also remembered a large collection of clothes 'in storage', too, which may have to wait till I can get at them.
I still haven't finished the EG book, but I'm nearly there. Disappointingly, the murderer has turned out to be whom I thought it was from the start! Just hoping that there will a wicked twist at the end, but not holding my breath. Might just skim the last few pages. I don't like giving up, and this book has been great for swiftly sending me to sleep at night!:rotfl:
Right, a coffee, and back to the fray - it's time limited, if I'm to sleep in my bed tonight! Also, if the rain clears up, I want to load the car for a donation run tomorrow.
Enjoy your day!Needs, NOT wants!

Great idea, Susan! Go for it. :j
If I can make it work at almost 70 and being overweight, I'm sure you can pull it off! Start gently, and keep developing, until you feel spot-on (or retire and can become a Wild Thing!) :rotfl:
I found ideas on P1nterest (eg: boho fashion, older B, B style clothes etc) - from classic smart casual to downright wacky! I'm going for something in between: traditional flowy shapes, with light touches of eccentricity! I shall definitely be avoiding the 'cluttered ethnic' look... I have learned something from kondoing!

Thanks for the tips.
I no longer have the legs for minis, so ankle length is brilliant, though I am thinking of wearing the silver Docs that my daughter left at home!
I've never liked animal prints, so no chance of my wearing those.
Any style can look 'mutton' if one tries to maintain a teenage look. But, any style can be translated into a mature version.
Body image, age or size are totally irrelevant. It's about looking, and feeling, wonderful.Needs, NOT wants!
