Have son and family over from abroad. Gave DIL th drawer full of underwear, mostly new, which had been sitting in bedside drawer for a year or more. Asked her to look through and pack to take back with the what is needed and the rest will be given to charity to recycle or sell on. Have only been given four pairs of socks and two pairs of pants so that's a big result! All new so they can be passed on. Toys sorted and children's clothes of a lovely bag of nearly new will be passed to CS.
I still have a wardrobe full of clothes of mine which are new with tags which I have been going to put on eBay for about nine months now and still not done it. After reading above posts about eBay I have to agree sooooo tomorrow the wardrobe will be emptied and ALL the clothes will be taken to CS. I always give to local Hospice but think this time I may spread out as have so much. Looking forward to seeing all the empty hangers :). I have shoes mainly new and unworn in their boxes and am loathed to give to CS as they all cost a lot of money ie over £65 plus. I've had a couple of knee operations so find shoes difficult to find that are comfortable now. Counting the boxes, always keep my shoes in their boxes, I have over 25 pairs. Until I feel able to donate they are taking up space but I would love to sell on rather than give. I've had letters from local RSPCA and Hospice shops in last six months thanking me for the profit of nearly £300 they have made from my donations, which is pleasing. However I could do with a little extra myself atm. So question is what do I do..........shall sleep on it! Lol
  • Hi Lara,

I think anything that would sell for little should go to CS, and anything with a higher price that may justify the photo taking, posting etc, you should Ebay.

However - I haven't used Ebay. I feel the whole process just too time consuming and tedious if I'm honest. Probably my mistake!

Great job on the amount you've de-cluttered by the way! I'm in awe.

    Just read your post iqueen.
My very best wishes to you you.

Just finishing of sorting/cleaning and decorating the relllies new place.
Much easier for them to keep in order as well.
They let me practice my kondoing arts on their stuff.
There wasn't much to kondo as we dumped a lot of stuff to fit into the downsized place. Lovely like an ickle hobbit house now.
Also my son's place whom I live with has stayed pretty much tidy
Due to the extreme kondoing I did there earlier this year.
Even the messie son has kept it up.
When I return in the evening from the relllies. They are either scared of my wrath or kondoing has changed them too.
Have a great day all whatever you are doing.:j

iQueen Sorry to hear that and sending you postive vibes
I am glad everyone loved your hat I do hope you wore it at a jaunty angle or is that a rakeish angle ? spelling might be wrong on that one :D and you had a great day.

Well done on Kondoing that mortgage it is a lovely free feeling isnt it :)

Welcome to the newbies but please be aware you need to read THE BIBLE ;) Or as you say it will just be another declutter which will not work for long as we all know.

Marie Kondo is a journey and a very hard one and not another declutter.

Cleaning for me today as the house stays so tidy and always looks good you feel that not a lot needs doing but sadly I have to say the corners dont escape the dirt and dust :rotfl:Shame really but thats life ;)

DH went away yesterday and when he packed his bag he came in the lounge and said I love this kondo thing that was so easy. :D Took me all of 2 mins just opened the drawers a grabbed what I needed :) So we do have another konvert which I had never thought possible.

Also DH who has never set foot in a gym in his life has asked me to book him an appointment at my gym  I can say that moment I was speechless for once in my life.I never thought I would see the day. So I am not sure if kondo has anything to do with it but I think maybe it is to do with the postive changes made in our lives :)

So on that note have a joyful day everyone in whatever you are doing :)

    Morning all
Sending very sincere and supporting hugs to Iqueen

I've never been an eBay user either I get more joy from giving my u joyful to the CS or freecycle.
I listened to the book when there was a link on YouTube but fell I need to go back through it and remind myself the order I should be following, I've done clothes (need redoing) and lots of paperwork ( but again there's always more) I've flirted with photos and kondoed obvious ones, the shed has been toyed with and the attic has had some stuff decluttered along with a few DVDs being passed on.
But I feel I'm in danger of just decluttering if I don't go back to the correct order. Summer hols are coming up and for the first two weeks I'll be home alone as youngest has two weeks work experience ( meaning all the menfolk will be out working) so I think I will use that time to restart my kondoing.

    Have a lovely day all

Iqueen, sorry to hear your news, best wishes for a speedy solution.

StrawberryJam, I agree with others on here that it's worth reading the book and doing stuff by category rather than by room. It's when you see everything in one place that you are able to focus on what's really joyful. Otherwise I find I just end up sorting stuff and putting it away again.

Lara, I feel your pain re the shoes. This is what I meant about 'sunk' cost though - the money was spent when you bought the shoes. If your lifestyle/health has changed and you can no longer wear them, then they're not valuable assets sitting in those boxes, they're dead weight. Shoes are fairly easy to post and sell well on eBay so if you've got the energy why not try, but don't let them weigh down your progress.

And from me too xx. Big hugs and thinking of you xx

I've just logged in to say I have started on the papers - approximately 4 x 3 boxes and I would say I am a third of the way through. Most of it so far is recycling, but one small pack of papers for DH to sort through (who will probably just recycle the lot). It's quite hard this as I know I will meet some memories along the way, it's a strange feeling

I've also just been reading today's/last nights posts. I will definitely follow the order and the way. I want this to be a life change not just a disaster aversion. I am feeling so much stronger from doing this - usually I just feel exhausted and feel like I'm scooping out water with a teaspoon, this time I feel it's the opposite way around. Sorry to go on about this, but it's a real revelation for me. :)

Thanks to everyone and best wishes to you all. :)

Lara shoes seem to sell really well at carboots, I see the same people rushing round each week seemingly bulk buying shoes my suspicion is they have a market stall or eBay them.

    Hi everyone.
I've just had a quick scan read of the last couple of pages.
Congratulations on the mortgage news Greent! :j

Sorry to hear your news Iqueen, hope you're soon on the mend.(((hugs)))

I have seen a lot about this Kon Marie method thing...I am a hoarder, I have 'lots' of 'stuff'.
I fell into the trap of never having enough storage-because I accumulated too much 'stuff'.
I 'tidied' a couple of drawers last week. Epic fail.
I ordered 'the book'. I started reading it yesterday. I'm over half way through reading it and...wow! I'm so inspired! I was already thinking of things I can now get rid of without guilt, as I was reading.
I'm optomistic that I will be able to report back my successes. Can't wait to get stuck in to be honest. :)
    Thanks for this thread. :)
