I'm afraid it's a case of 'just do it'. I have given up eBaying, because I did exactly what you said - piled it up and then couldn't get round to it. Eventually I decided that the small amounts I'd make did not outweigh the stress it was causing me, and I thanked it all for making me realise that, and sent it off to the CS.

What is stopping you from eBaying? That's not meant to sound rude - is there any reason you can't photograph it and list it tonight with a short auction? If it is just too time-consuming/awkward/can't get round to it, or you dread the thought of having to post it all, then I suggest that the thought of what it might earn on eBay isn't sparking enough joy in your heart to justify hanging on to it! If on the other hand you feel it's worth too much to give away ... then devote an evening to listing it all before you Kondo another category. I've come to see that the Kondo process isn't just the decision-making about what not to keep, it's following it right through to waving it goodbye.

:eek:I have definitely ground to a halt. RL has got in the way. There is certainly something about mood and clutter.

Car has broken down - need it for my job. I have had to borrow money from lovely mum.
OH has been out of work for 3 months so no money and eating into savings. Luckily, he started a new job today.

Really need to get back to the Kondoing as it makes me feel positive. It has been that bad that dry washing is still in basket!

I have decided not to give myself a hard time but just start again when the school holidays start.

DawnW - Yes, I have tried a carboot a couple of times, but never had much luck, seem to take more home with me than I came with ! :rotfl:

Polly - Thankyou for your answer - your question about what is stopping me from Ebaying made me realise that it is just laziness. I had been convincing myself that it was the poor light/dreadful vomit yellow walls (the joys of renting) which make everything look horrible in photos that was the problem, but you are absolutely right that the money it 'might' bring doesn't spark enough joy to inspire me to actually list the stuff! Maybe I should set myself some rules - if it hasn't gone on Ebay a week after being Kondo'd, and if it doesn't sell after 3 attempts then it goes to the charity shop.

I too am another person whose life has been revolutionised by Marie Kondo. I HATE waste and disposable society - used to struggle so much getting rid of things that are still useful (even though they are useless to me). I can't even bring myself to go to the tip - it actually makes me cry seeing people throw away perfectly good stuff. But the simple idea of deciding what to KEEP and reframing the question to 'Does this bring you joy as opposed to 'Should I keep this' or even 'Do I want to keep this' (because then you have to ask yourself *why*) is extraordinary. It has also vastly reduced the amount of stuff I bring into my home - when I ask 'does it genuinely bring me joy...', more often than not now the answer is not really.

Hi Blairweech I got really frustrated with all my fleabay items clogging up the house. I tried car boots and ended up selling stuff at 10p just to get rid - may as well have given it to CS.

Ive had quite a bit of luck on fleabay, but the fees seem quite high now that they are charging 10% of the postage too. So, I've sold a few bits on Gumtree and also on preloved. It's free to advertise and there's no selling fee either. It's also useful to advertise bulky or heavy things too.

We have used music magpie and ziffit successfully - I think there's another similar site too. It's quite difficult to let things go for 10p or 20p, but it means you don't have to drag all of your stuff to the car boot and back again. I made about £12 off ziffit for just a few items last time and that's more than I made at some car boots I did and for less effort.

My DD has been great at advertising stuff for me too. My main aim is just to get the stuff moved on and my house clear, and any money made is a bonus. I've just had a big clear out and everything has gone straight to the charity shops - feels good to donate things that will raise money for good causes. It means the things are out of my way quickly and I also have an opportunity for a bit of a shop too (just snapped up a lampshade for 50p).

I've currently got a few bits on fleabay and I keep them in a box at the top of the landing. I let them run the three automated renewals and then they go off to the charity shop. But I'm now getting to the stage of not really having anything to sell and considering the time it takes to pack up and post means I don't want to sell small items anymore.

    Hope you find a solution.

There is Zapper, WeBuyBooks and Amazon Trade in you could try as well, for things like books, DVDs, CDs, old phones etc? They don't pay much, but do offer free postage, and better than landfill.

If you do facebook, the local selling pages on there might work too - though I use ours mainly to get rid of stuff for free, the kind of things that the CS wouldn't take, such as 2 of OH's old electric drills 'for spares or repair', a tin of rusty old nails, a carrier bag full of old PC cables, etc. People asked for this horrible old junk within minutes, and they collected it - I didn't have to take it anywhere :D

I have been listing 20 items a month - the 'free' listing allowance. Items waiting to be listed are sorted by month - eg DH's unjoyful, unworn, winter jumpers are ready for October/ November. A dressy (but too big) red and black cardi is ready for early December. The items are folded into bags and are stored on the empty shelves that used to be full pre-Kondoing.

I am using the money to do joyful things when we are on holiday.

Anything that is awkward to wrap or bulky goes into the CS box or is recycled.

Just went through DVDs today - not many there in the first place and I've managed to get rid of half. A small success but I can see the difference which I desperately needed to see today.

I had two boxes of bags in the top of my wardrobe, plus more bags in the garage. So at my first attempt, I got them all together and immediately culled half. I then had a "not sure" pile of 4. 3 went on the exit pile, and the 4th I do love, but haven't used (it's a bit big) since I got a proper laptop bag for work.

So I dithered about this one. I have found a reason to keep it (thinking of going back to my studies soon, and it will be ideal for college) but I'm not sure if im just searching for reasons to keep it. I'm doubting myself!

The rest were easy decisions really.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at my socks :) well, you gotta start somewhere!

In one of the bags was a receipt from 2008 :D haha I checked all the pockets for any stray currency ;)

RL has got in the way recently - too much work and the house needing repairs; new tyres for the car, etc, etc. However I did manage to re-start today with some bits and pieces: a liquid eyeshadow that came in a gift set in a colour I hate: a blouse I like but which consistently unbuttons itself (and I could sew it up but realise now that I won't so off it goes; some mail, etc.

I really need to get back to full blown Kondoing but can't see a time this week so until the weekend - it'll just have to be the bits and pieces ...
    Looking ahead
