I did my ironing just before work and then left the ironing board up to use as a folding station when I got home, folded the three things which were aren't blouses for hanging, and neatly slid them into the drawers.
I can't get over the simple pleasure of having stuff stacked on end, pushing stuff sideways with one hand, and then adding the item back onto the end of the row in the drawer. So easy to get out, too, and packing is a cinch.
When I changed clothes after work, I chucked the top I was wearing right into the washer. When it's clean and ironed it will got to the chazzer. I paid £4 for it in 2011 and haven't worn it much - the cut is odd and I spent the day squirming and fiddling with it, and wasn't feeling the joy, so off it'll go. It's a good quality item from a good store, so should find a new happy owner, but it won't be me. Have also kondo'd it off the clothing inventory.........
I've got a fair few things which I brought back from the family home to donate to the chazzer here, so I will prep the first of the bags to take over after work tomorrow. There's more than one bags' worth, but I'll be waiting on the laundry for some other things.
Have also kondo'd some worn out textiles into the rag recycling, having thanked them for their sterling service. Just because they're old and sad, doesn't mean we shouldn't be unappreciative.
My way of looking at things has fundamentally changed, to regarding things as something I use, and then which I let go, rather than as things which I have and hold. Some items will be released in a timely manner, such as books which I have finished with, or good but not good-for-me clothing. Other items are being used up, like clothes or household textiles, and will be out of here eventually.
What I'm not doing is envisaging myself as irrevocably tied to these items for ever and ever, amen. We're on a journey, them and me, and for a time we are sharing a space, but we're not the same entity.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Came back from dropping off 7 large donation bags at the CS, checked the washing line and two of the items I brought in went straight into one of the empty donation bags! This process could take a while but I'm definitely seeing the benefits already. I can close my wardrobe doors for a start!Looking ahead0

I'm so looking forward to reading her book when the library finally gets it to me - it's been an overdue return for some time which does make it seem worth hanging onto! Anyway it's good to pick up bits and pieces and it seems I accidentally started kondo-ing yesterday with the right category - clothes. Got about a third into donation bags. The rest are being put away as they come in from the line so I'll take a proper look at them - no strays allowed back into the wardrobe!
:rotfl:Perhaps the borrower has lost it in the clutter... or accidentally kondoed it!:rotfl::rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

Just catching up with the thread after a couple of weeks away.
So many busy people, Kondoing away. For those just starting out - yes you will find you keep to it. The only category I have finished is clothes and it is so much easier to put them away after washing as they all now have a home. My bedroom definitely feels more tranquil even though I haven't finished it yet, purely because there are no piles of clothes lying around.
My suitcase was easier to pack for going away and also coming home again it was easier to separate the dirty from the clean. Was upset that only hanging space was provided so I couldn't store my neatly folded tops and t shirts.
Whilst I was away I put on a top which I love but it really doesn't fit very well and never has so I took it straight off again and it is now in the box ready for next CS run.
When packing to go away, also found another couple of non clothing items in my bedroom which are also now in the CS box. I'm looking to buy a new blanket and we did see some in tourist shops but nothing sparked joy so I didn't buy the one my friend suggested because "it would do". Will wait until I find the right one.
Kondoing has had to slow down for me as a baby bird managed to find its way into the kitchen when back door was only open for a couple of minutes and I didn't notice until a couple of hours later. Lots of mess to clear up so I'm methodically cleaning section by section. Not found anything to get rid of yet as all the things out are things I use all the time. Can't wait to do the rest of the kitchen when it's time 'cos if everything were put away I wouldn't have such a big job on my hands.

OH had a portfolio of unfinished paintings his dad had done. His dad died in 1990 and, whilst we have some pictures hanging up, there were these others lurking in said portfolio. Today we took the best 5, framed them and hung them. The remainder - mostly barely started works, he has binned.
He asked me what to do with the remainder and I said it was a decision I couldn't make, but asked him how he felt about it, "I feel they should go" he said. I asked how he felt about the framed ones "I've set them free"
The unfinished ones have gone :T FIL would have approved I think
The framed ones are beautiful.
Now talking of pictures, those who remember the bracelet saga may recall that I wish to buy a painting with the liberated half sovereign I got from aunties inherited bracelet. I have seen a painting that we like - but auntie would not have liked it. Now I don't know what to do - I am looking for someone sensible (as you all are) to help me see wood for trees......I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I have done books
tbh it was an easy category for me as I'm not very attached to most of them. Sophie kinsella and Dorothy koomson books kept as I like to re-read along with a couple of travel guides (2 for countries I have visited and plan to revisit and 1 mum picked up for Vietnam where I want to go next). The rest are fiction picked up in charity shops and I am working my way through them and putting in charity shop bag when done. I have had most of them for a while as I bought loads of books when they were 10p. So only 4 books out of that category. Then did cookery books. I love Indian and cook it all the time but tend to stick to same few dishes. Nana volunteers in a charity shop and kept giving me Indian books and ended up with over 10! Have picked the 3 I like the most and got rid of rest. Also got rid of another few cook books.
Then did magazines. Have about 20 travel mags that I've not looked at for ages so listed on eBay. Had about 50 supermarket mags in a pile on floor that I kept getting with the intention to enter recipes I like in my pepperplate app but has never happened. Sick of them gathering dust so they are all in recycling bin! Corner is looking clearer nowgoing to do a bit of tidying and cleaning and may tackle under sink cupboard next as I'm sick of rooting around looking for stuff. Don't think any of it will spark joy though!

Imagine if you and Auntie had been out on a girls' shopping trip and you had seen the painting then. If you liked it and she didn't, would you have refused to buy it then? If the answer is no, I think the answer should still be no, by which I mean follow your heart not hers.
I'm sure a relative who loved you well enough to bequeath you her jewellery wouldn't begrudge you something which would give you joy.
I'm crafting a couple of donation bags as we speak and think they can both leave tomorrow - I may well put them in my wally trolley to spin them the half-mile down to my chosen chazzer as I don't want to risk getting gorilla arms.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have to totally agree with this as when people call I stand at the front door and talk as I am too embarrassed to let them in.
I'm so glad it's not just me......:o But we will get there!
Thanks very much mummyroyof3 and iQueen for your suggestions about the OU booksWe're going away at the weekend and I'm not at my best this week, so I will worry about them (or not) when we get back.

Funny someone asked me today if I would help them do clothes
I have had a lovely day and it has gone as planned I did my run and stopped a few times to just take it in and enjoy it. I tell myself everyday I am so lucky to live in this area as it is really outstanding
15 more items so far gone from the clothes section and still not 100% joyful about it. Same with shoes I need to revisit very soon.
Its so strange as you really do know you are not joyful about it and have a nagging feeling everytime you go near :rotfl:
My bedroom is very tranquil as no clothes are in there just underwear and socks and they are very very joyful but are still being thinned out as I have too many so anything which is quite not right when I wear it is going. I am working on something here but may take me a few weeks
Everyone seems in full Kondo flow on the posts today so well done to all.:rotfl:So much 'stuff' going out of my fellow Kondoites doors its amazing to read  I have got rid of so much and can honestly say I have not missed one item.
But I can say I am reaping the benefits of Kondoing less really is the new more
Do any of you remember the lifes laundry declutter programme ?
Thats how I feel my lifes laundry has all been looked at, thrown, given, used up, washed, cleaned, folded, displayed, shredded and put away in order:D
That also applies to my thoughts and feelings this really is one hell of a journey:)
