Hi Everyone, I am loving everyone's posts.
I am a long time lurker on this thread. I have this coming week off work and am all geared up to start sorting my house and far too many belongings.
I have a stinking cold so my progress may be slow, I just wanted to say hi to everyone after reading your posts for so long.x0 -
Welcomehopefuldebtfree, good luck this week!
"Just goes to show that our kondo decisions should be based on what we feel, rather than trying to second-guess what others might (or might not) feel. They are our possessions and it's our lives we are de-cluttering. "Iqueen you summed up exactly what I was thinking this morning!
Started with spices and then went through all the food cupboards and chucked all that was out of date, made me realise I should only have what we actually eat not what Jamie and nigella consider essentials. My home will only feel right when it is right for me!0 -

Welcome to Konverts' Koven, hopeful! :coffee:
I'm one of the slowest on here! (Ongoing RL issue to deal with that takes time and mental energy.) So you won't be alone! Don't worry about the speed - achieving our goal is all that matters!
Hope you kondo the cold over the weekend.
Best wishes!

I agree. Everyone has their own style, and their own preferred staple meals. Sometimes it's good to try something new or cook for an occasion, but we should be mindful when choosing precisely what, and whether the special spices/ingredients will be used up.
I interrogate every purchase - even the Finger of Fudge that I buy 4 times a year! :rotfl:

oh wow that konmari method looks great, I really need to sort out EVERY bit of space in my house, I feel like a closet hoarder (no pun intended lol) I watched a load of videos about it yesterday. Definitely going to fold my pants and socks lol
'I'll just keep that in case I ever need it!'
'Can't throw that away, it will be useful for something'
'You watch, if i throw this away, I'll then need it and regret it'
Ermm need to change my mindset I think. I have a chest of drawers that I literally only use the top two small drawers for underwear and the rest is full of clothes I never even look at really. I have two wardrobes and only use a qtr of the clothes in them.
I have 3 pieces of furniture in my lounge full of stuff (mostly toys/games) that never see the light of day, drawers just ful of useless junk for no reason, as well as an alcove in the upstairs hallway full of games. See a pattern forming here! kids stuff everywhere.
I am procrastinating tho as it is such a big job to start and it will take months to go through each room, but the kids will follow me adding the stuff back no doubt!

Don't forget to save a couple of cups and saucers (if they are bone china (translucent, held up to the light) - for when oldies like me, when we visit!
There is one cup and saucer in the box that doesnt match the rest. Its a puzzle, why has Auntie kept that in there? We have decided to keep this one in her memory and if you every come for tea IQueen I would be delighted to let you use it.
Welcome norfolk dream. I nearly died of shock when my teenage son asked if I would sort his drawers like I have done mine! Do try to do it by category if you can though. I started by areas and failed.
OH and DS have been to the tip with yet another load. I dont know where all this stuff is coming from. OH is trying but he still finds it hard. I have pulled out a box of gardening magazines of his that were under the bed and will try again to get him to part with them later.

So many of your posts resonate with me. In particular the gifts - my mother was a school teacher and every Christmas and end of school would see endless piles of ornaments, mugs and trinkets that people had spent their hard earned money on and which frankly she didn't really want - well not the items themselves, the gratitude that was intended to be conveyed made her very joyful.
She lives in a tiny town and couldn't have got rid of the stuff discreetly and used to bring boxes of it to where I lived to donate to the chazzers where I lived. It took us years to finally clear her cupboards of World's Best Teacher items.
I made a vow then that I would only give teachers edible or consumable gifts that they could either eat or bin and I would never know, anything as long as they didn't have to 'treasure' it on my behalf. I must try to apply that thinking to other gifting too unless I know that an actual thoughtful item really WOULD be appreciated.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Welcome Norfolkdream and the other people who've joined this thread since I last posted, and I wish you well on your Kondo-ing journey.
The oddest thing I and everyone else has found is that the places we Kondo are staying tidy! It's amazing
I hadn't done any for a while as life got in the way a bit, but yesterday I Kondo-ed 2 skirts, (I never wear skirts these days, and if I wanted to I'd need to get a new one with a bigger waistband anyway) a pair of jeans and some very nice moleskin trousers from the shelf in the top of the wardrobe to the hospice shop, and my handbags are now in up there instead. They were previously piled up next to the chest of drawers. I got rid of some earlier in the year, and now have one I use every day, a small cream one for Summer events (e.g. weddings/christenings), a black one for funerals and a tan Radley one which I don't use much but is too nice to get rid of.
I went through some paperwork and shredded loads of old payslips, having had to stop working about 10 years ago. I've kept all the P60s though "just on case" though not sure in case of what.....
Then last night I sorted out my stationery, which is in 2 shallow stacking trays on the bookcase, and put the stuff I hadn't used for years in the recycling. Now I'll be able to get something out of the trays without everything falling down
I think it will take rather longer than 6 months to do it all though, especially as OH and DS are reluctant to part with things.
Mind you, DS did remark a while ago that he really might as well get rid of the bags of stuff he'd put in the loft, about 2 years ago now, because he had never had to go up and get any of it so obviously doesn't need it. He hasn't done anything about it yet, but when he does, I think he plans to replace it with the Stuff that's currently cluttering up his bedroom....0 -
Back to paperwork (not financial until I've got my nerve back). Located DS2's GSE certificates which had been put in the wrong cupboard so collecting all like stuff together and putting temporarily in the DR bookcase until the other room is done.
Half term this week so plan is with DS3
his books
wii games
PS2 old games
board games
dresser drawer - kids tat
garage bats, balls and all sporting stuff
Side shed any garden 'toys'

Hi Fellow Kondoites Both Old and New followers
Welcome Norfolk Dream I follow your diary and I have already made the move and live in Norfolk
Well I have been helping a friend of mine do a yard sale todayI helped her decide what to let go
:D Maybe I was the wrong person to ask as lets just say we made over £600 between 10-2pm :eek:and her house is a lot less cluttered
Got talking to loads of customers and a lot were Holiday makers but one lady I got talking to lived 2 roads from my son (125 miles away from here ) And she was a fellow Kondoite  We whiled away a good 30 mins taking about knicker drawers and DHs tee -shirts standing on end :rotfl:Over heard by a lot of other customers who were then NOT told about KM or they may not of purchased anything
I was given by my friend 3 of the most beautiful velvet cushions in a stunning peacock BlueWhich give me joy and I love and I gave her half a tin of paint which I no longer need
So all in all I have had a fantastic day and just walked in the door of my house and it still looks so goodand I havent really done a thing in 3 days
and the cushions make it look even more joyful.

Everyone is doing so well.
I am at an impasse at the moment. I have done the categories for my stuff but I am struggling with the other hoarders in the house - particularly OH and DD who doesn't even live here!
He likes to keep stuff because we are going to use it when we do that job.... You know what I mean. The only problem is 'that' job never gets done. I have a gorgeous mirror still in the box that he bought me 5 years ago. This will be hung in the living room when we redecorate.
I have a shower screen in the bedroom that will be hung again when we get the piece needed to refit it. He still can't find the piece 2 years later.
His parents gave us a roomful of engineered flooring. Lovely and too expensive to get rid of. The only problem is that it is piled in my bedroom waiting for him to decide where it will be laid.
No wonder my bedroom never looks tidy despite all my Kondoing.
Does our leader have a sub category for OH unfinished jobs?De cluttering Konvert.Getting there
