My personal email box was overflowing
Over 7000 and no time to go through and delete
Then I heard a podcast from The Get It Done Guy
And I followed his advice
I set up a folder called archive 21 May 2015 and dumped them all in there
Suddenly my inbox is a pleasure - nothing in it 😄
I am using the opportunity to unsubscribe as the new ones come in
At some point I may go back and look, but as its only taking up 5% of my storage space I might not !
I suddenly feel lighter ...
I used to do that at work. Then I applied for and got voluntary redundancy. Three years worth of monthly archives to be sorted out so that I could save the important ones for the person who was taking over my clients. In the space of four days.
I have kept my inbox much tidier ever since because it was a scarring experience. Anything that needs keeping gets moved straightaway to a folder but if it piles up a bit I still make it a rule to sort it out when the messages get into three figures.
I went through all my computer files recently and got rid of loads of stuff - saved drafts etc, copies of letters to school and so on - and it feels much better even though there is nothing physical to show for it. And the computer seems to be running better as well even though I used to defrag quite regularly. Then did the same thing with all my bookmarks - half of them were dead anyway
It's not quite as good as looking at my teeshirt drawer but I feel a similar sense of satisfaction when I look at my nice short folder list and my bookmarks are all usefulIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
meant to add, unsubscribing from everything has given me a great sense of relief as well. DH ticks the box for EVERYONE to email him and his Blackberry is always pinging. And he always stops what he is doing to check even though I mock him ruthlessly ooh who could it be - Cafe Rouge? Screwfix? Itunes? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thank you, Konverts, for the really interesting posts, since I checked in yesterday. You are all SO inspiring.YORKSHIRELASS wrote: »Mav you are an inspiration, please keep posting.
Just a thought, if like me you are starting now then we have until Christmas to complete it. It can be hard to find the time to do it. I wish a could take a couple of weeks off work just to kondo!
OMG! I'm already 6 months' in!
I should say I started Kondoing in January. I picked cupboards, drawers and areas to tackle rather than category. Eventually I gave up. Now I am starting afresh with a list of categories and new determination.
Here is the check-list of sub-categories for time-starved Konverts, Newbiesor, or Second-rounders!

I saw some lovely shoes on ebay yesterday. It was the thought of the already stuffed shoe cupboard that stopped me bidding.
Well done, Yorkshire! Needs, not wants!Hi just thought I would pop in to show me face. I havent posted for a while. I have been reading posts though.
Some of you are feeling overwhelmed. I felt like that, the stuff seems to suck the life out of you doesnt it.
Im sure its the dead energy surounding stuff we hardly use.
if that doesnt sound too woo woo.:D
its a bit like some negative people, they just seem to drain the life out of you. Whereas joyful people you want to keep them in your life as friends for life.
It does get better I promise. Just chip away at it it will all go eventually. I used the analogy of a house being built a while ago. I read it somewhere and it helped me.
The Architect designer sees the whole house with windows roof, the finished product in his minds eye.
The builder just sees the pile of bricks and mortar and starts to pile one brick on top of another, stops for a break, does some more then goes home. Then returns to the job and piles one brick on top of another until the house is built.
Thats it. Thats how its done brick by brick with life in between. Mind I have had some builders who have taken a long long time but they got done eventually lol
The summer, if we get one, is around the corner maybe getting our As into Gs so we arent wasting time rifling through drawers looking for stuff, but out of the house enjoying the summer whatever the weather. :j
Lovely to see you again, Jinny! Thanks for popping in. :coffee: Hope life is still as joyful as expected.Dustykitten wrote: »Quick question has kondoing made any of you reassess your relationships with people and ask whether or not they bring you joy?
I love the 'woo' factor! A couple of years ago, I kondoed a friend of over 60 years, having dismissed her nasty little remarks as 'just thoughtless' throughout that time. I realised that she was deliberately undermining my self-esteem (when I was vulnerable) to boost her own. She doesn't believe in 'woo', so there was no other resolution. Sad, but another bleh out of my life.
I have just spent 2 hours on the phone with a friend who brings me real joy and who feels the same way about me! :j Today's Happiness scale - 10+Needs, NOT wants!

Well done with keeping your Inbox tidy - I still need to do mine properly. Although I weed it occasionally, it is still stuffed with out-of-date, irrelevent, or unread trash.
I have recently killed off the newsletters that I never read, or retailers whom I don't expect to buy from anytime soon, so never look at. Anyone else noticed how the 'offers' have exploded, as they continue growing their profits, during our austerity?
Does your DH realise that he is paying for all those pings, with time that could be better spent or more enjoyable?Needs, NOT wants!

I've become pretty ruthless about sorting emails, both personal on the home PC and work stuff on the employer's systems.
On both systems, I have folders for things which I will/ will probably need to refer to again, and move them over into that. If it's just a FYI or friendly chit-chat kind of thing at home, I delete after I've responded.
Work would have us drowning in emails. Our department interacts with the public, so anything which the local authority is doing, we have to know about. The volume of data is somewhat overwhelming, but you have to manage the info-flow somehow. I speed-read everything and park the stuff which I can't hold in memory into relevent folders. Some of these are time-limited things and can be dumped wholesale once the time has passed.
I am trying not to casually bookmark so much stuff on the home PC and to delete two before adding another one and, like someone observed, come of them are dead when you go to use them, anyway.
Have kondo'd an appt at home and an allotment project. All the leeks are now harvested, trimmed and washed. A small number will be kept back at home and the bulk given to family - they go to seed at this time of year so you can't just leave them. I have dug thru the patch of ground they were standing in and that's all ready for re-planting next week.Plus I can now bin a pair of unmentionables, where the fabric gave way under my fingers as I put them on. Religious knickers, lol.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ do you allow your leeks to go completely to seed and then plant the baby leeklets that appear?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
