Kondoed 3 stuffed-full kitchen drawers today. Reading further into the book I read, with relief that what konmari calls 'quick' tidying of the whole home, can actually take on average, 6 months.

There's no way I could do more than a little at a time, for various reasons.

I have had a full on Kondo kind of day, mostly sat cross legged on the floor and gently pottering around endlessly clearing, cleaning and repatriating like with like stuff to sort through 'later'. e.g. one small drawer of my bedside cabinet revealed a surplus of various pens, mirror, tweezers, notebooks, old diary, nail files, various lotions, potions, hand cream, medicines, three balls of wool, my engagement ring (I wondered where that was for a while), $2 coin, earphones, cotton wool, a few brochures, label from a bra and a DVD.

Wardrobe has all been realigned so that all dresses, trousers, short sleeve and long sleeves are all grouped and hanging together.

I emptied out, cleaned tidied under the kitchen sink, folded and stacked dishcloths and tea-towels. Cleared out and neatly rearranged the drawer where foil, freezer bags, greaseproof and cling film live.

I spent quite a bit of time in the bathroom, clearing surfaces and working towards my dream of a minimalist spa like sanctuary with only things that I love and am actually using on display. I decanted some stuff into nicer dispensers and am quite happy with the results (on the surface) but there's a heck of a lot of stuff to sort behind the scenes. I have some small plastic boxes which I am going to repurpose as storage for toiletries which I plan to store in groups for hair, skin care etc. Having spent quite a while on the 'no toiletries' challenge, all my stuff is itemised and spread sheeted and most stuff that I don't like or love has been whittled away already - so not much I want to part with just need to store it in a more orderly fashion

After that it all started to get a bit stressful and overwhelming when I came to do the ironing and put laundry away - after lovingly folding a nightdress to put away I realised I need to sort the drawer where that goes, and then the drawer where the slips live and so it went on and on. I decided to leave the nighties as they are but the chaos of that drawer is playing on my mind and I'm pretty sure I'll be back there to fold and tidy before the day is done.

I love, love, love this thread.

I was busy most of the day yesterday caking but managed to samosa my carrier bags in the evening.

The thing that worries me most is getting rid of clothes....literally about 2 things I have bring me joy so really I should kondoe the rest! But then I would have nothing to wear. :rotfl:

I better buy some new things first (planned and saved for).

I found this really great Army way of folding towels, there seems to be a lot of other ways of folding clothes on there by the same guy. It's called Ranger Rolling. I used this method on one of our towels and it work first time. I used the cotton band on a huge bath towel as the guide for making the pocket fold.

I was so impressed how it worked take a look: Ranger Rolling Towels

:T Oh wow, I've just learned to Ranger Roll and have done one of my microfibre cloths, reducing the space it takes up by 50%. What a find. I shall now go off and roll something else. Thanks for that linkie.

I used to keep huge amounts of placky bags
But you don't need as many as you think
I restrict myself to around 20 now

I did mine yesterday. It wasn't a 45 litre box, it was a 60 litre one :rotfl: I have about 300 :o plastic bags all nicely folded. I didn't fold them the same way as the woman on the video. I always fold crisp packets into triangles before throwing them away (something I learned my DH) so did them that way as it was much quicker.
Wow, I am fascinated by this, although I am probably the only person who had never heard of Marie Kondo before I read this thread.

I'd never heard of her before either.

I know, I loved it, plus they don't come apart.

I really love this guy, I've looked at a lot of his videos and the other Basic Training Videos too, they are really great, if not a bit O.T.T. there is a lady too whom I've watched she also shows you how to put your hair in a bun without looking. Although I prefer the rolling down method for this too.

Did PJ and thermal vest drawer last night. So much more room.

Hi everyone, I thought I would help out get this thread organised so I've started to go through it from the first post and I've created a pintrest board with all the links in this thread. I have got to #150. I will carry on this afternoon.

It means that you have one place to go to for all the video links rather than trying to search through the thread. I can also give people rights to post links onto the thread so Jinny and VfM4meplseI can add you both.

Here is the Link: MSE KonMarie Pintrest Board

    Good idea?

  • Thanks MummyRivett! You've done a smashing job:D

I have some drawers and items kondoed and gradually working through the rest when time permits. I have found one thing that I wont change is my stack of facecloths, but then they are a spa-like oasis of tidiness in my bathroom! I have a dozen that I bought from primark years ago, they get washed and tumble-dried, (because I like the way it fluffs them up) then they are folded neatly into four the old-fashioned way and stacked on their own shelf with their decorative bands lined up, six to a pile, hems facing to the outer sides.

I think this is a good example of "a place for everything and everything in its place" working as it should - my flannels are never untidy:) now for the rest of the house...
