Massive 6 hour clear out of the garage today. I've half heartedly tried to sort it before, but since reading the book, I am ruthless, massive box of cables, no idea what they were for, probably long discarded routers, laptops, phones all binned (I did keep one of each scart lead, phone cable, kettle cable and micro usb cable.)

All tools sorted, organised, put away, same with DIY stuff including leftover paint for walls that have been repainted at least 3 different colours since then. 2 bikes free cycled as well as sky boxes, a scooter and a load of toys.
Even though I'm absolutely shattered, filthy and very hot, it's is such a great feeling and I keep going in to my lovely tidy garage just to gloat!
Keep going guys, we are all doing brilliantly 😊

    Loft next 😳

Finally allowed myself to get rid of 2 brand new tops I didn't like how they fit when I bought the then after losing 2 stone still didn't want to wear them lol. 2 diy jobs got done today and I displayed a few ornaments on a shelf that had been in loft for 12 years

:) I came home to a letter from the charity which I joined as a gift-aider this January and they have raised nearly £90 from my Stuff in the past 3 months! I'm gobsmacked and delighted at how well they've done and I haven't missed a thing, except in a good way.

I got a letter recently as well, for a similar amount too. I have three more small pieces of furniture waiting to go over there when I am next in the area as well. Great feeling! :money:

All of my bags left out were collected by the time I got home, and already had another bag (different charity) through the door. It's for clothing only this time, but I'm sure I can wrangle enough things into it to be worth collecting. Have already put in DH's trainers that he NEVER wears, along with my old winter coat. It's still in great condition but was never quite right for me. So in KonMari style, it's out the door.
  • Re the children's things; I still have my teddy-bear, and one other toy which I love so much it's on display on my kitchen dresser. I'm frankly relieved that my parents didn't keep every awful painting and clumsy pottery bowl that I made. These things are not meant to last, they're to celebrate the moment in my view.

However - when my mum died some years ago aged 86, we made a display of photos for the celebration after her funeral. It was really important to me that people who'd only known her in later years got a picture of her whole life, and so we included her school report - very important in context, because she was a grammar-school scholarship girl and that influenced her future life. We had a programme from an am-dram performance that she'd been in, and a newspaper cutting from something else that she'd been involved in and it all helped to tell her story. I'm glad that we had those, and they form part of our family 'archive' now.

I still have my school report and some newspaper cuttings/programs etc in a memory box in the loft. However, I have today Kondoed the Spanish and French literature books studied at school which had scribbled notes in them etc. They went into the recycle bin. It felt weird not passing books on which I have always done as to me they are living things, but there is no way they could have gone to anyone else in that state.

Three other books are ready to go to a charity book shop once I've been through the rest of the shelves in that room.

Still plodding along, Kondoing a few things every day so it's a very slow speed but slow speed is better than no speed and it's the only way I can do this at the moment.

I have all my school reports - and have kept them in a box of sentimental stuff (school reports, some newspaper cuttings, some special cards, a newspaper from the day of my birth etc) I have pared it down masses in a pre KM way earlier this year and will probably do it again when I get to sentimental items. I don't have any of my toys, nor do I want any :) My children each have a 'baby/ toddler' memory box (about the size of 1.5-2 shoeboxes) - it has their hospital tags, the newspaper announcement, some cards received for their births, their first shoes, a lock of hair and their first outfit.

Slow progress here, partly due to school hols - but a few bits are still going (2 bags dropped off at CS today) and am extremely mindful about anything coming in! :D

Have also received a bonus so made a decent size OP to mortgage today - now on track to pay it off completely in August of this year - yeay!!!

Hi just popping in to say Hi.
I have been reading the thread but have been busy with work and getting ready for my DD wedding. Home made wedding so lots of decorations and other bits and bobs all to be made to keep the costs down.

I still have Edward Bear my teddy sits on the bed in the guest room and my piggy bank the only things i have from childhood except loads of memories and a few scars.

Manged to remove a few bags of carp out of the house and the charity bag collection have all been full. still lots of stuff to go.

Thank goodness i have no loft or garage as we rent. Keep up the good work. I'll be back soon.

I wish my parents had kept my school reports - I would have loved to have shown them to my kids.

Mine have a plastic box for things. Just big enough for school reports and personal stuff - passports and the like.

Well done on overpaying the mortgage. Would love to start on that.
