I started reading the book today and a, surprised there are no pictures. O would have liked to see it in action as inspiration - this thread has given me more ideas about kondoing than the book has. I'm off work soon for a week so will go kondo crazy then.

I got most of the information about kondoing from the Internet, but decided to buy the book at Christmas. I'm so glad that I did. :j

It is an easy little read, and it prepares you mentally. I found it really motivating; while the tips and advice from other Konverts is keeping me going. :)

In the past, de-cluttering/organising books have generated some motivation, during reading, but that has very swiftly dissipated. This one makes you want to start RIGHT NOW! Better still, any other things, like work, appointments, and even sleeping, are just annoying interruptions. :rotfl:

Hi everyone. Its been a busy afternoon in the jue household.
Went back in the loft and brought down 4 more boxes plus my wedding dress ( been married 30 years)!!
The wedding dress actually zipped up:j
    Struggled to breathe though:rotfl:
It will be reused for crafting, my sil is a serious crafter and is really happy to have it.
Two boxes were full of mainly komono, I have washed and dusted the contents and they are off for a new life to the cs. I have kept just two ornaments which were my granny's, she died 37 years ago :( Some of the other komono was hers too so it has been quite emotional.
Also found a smelly candle that's now lit, and smells lovely, its at least 20 years old :rotfl:

  • "Died in Storage" - thank you so much for that GreyQueen!
That's what happened to the brand new photoframe that I was saving till I could find the right photo ... the glass broke before that happened. And the really lovely diary that I hung on to till it was out of date. And the stuff I stored in the garage which got eaten by mice, and the cashmere jumper which was being saved for best only the moths didn't care about that and the expensive shower gel which had leaked in the drawer when I got round to using it - it all Died in Storage.

RIP Stuff. In future I'm going to set you free to live in peace with your own kind. :rotfl:

I've bagged up a pile of clothes I had originally intended to sell on Ebay - they've been sat for at least 2 months doing nothing whilst I've not had time or inclination. I had a quick look at sold prices for similar items and there's very little to be made (£2-3), so I will take them to the charity shop this week.
Also collected a box of kitchen items, books and assorted Komono.
I have also thanked a pair of shoes for the wonderful service that they have given me for the past 7 years. They were supremely comfortable (Hu$h puppies) and carried me for many many miles, bringing me great joy (and no blisters). They are now finally degrading to a point where they can't even be sent to the charity shop. I have thanked them profusely.

:) As a part of my job, I book pest control treatments for a local authority. A common narrative from the public is exactly what I have emboldened above; mice (or rats!) have been enticed into their garages by Stuff. Mostly by supplies of food (bird/ dog/cat/ occasionally human) plus supplies of bedding (clothes and other textiles) and habitat (upholstered furniture or mattresses awaiting donation/ repurposing).

Lovely people, if you keep this kind of Stuff in your garage or outbuildings, even in modest quantities and briefly, you run a very high risk of attracting rodents. I would think very carefully about storage, in terms of what/ where/ when. If you must keep food outside, put it in metal containers and sweep and dispose of any dropped seeds/ kibble very thoroughly.

I once had to deal with an indoors infestation of clothes moths, caused by a slovenly housemate using a corridor-sized walk-in cupboard as a store for unwanted clothes, just chucked in there and left undisturbed for years. They got out and started to infiltrate my Stuff. I caught them in the nick of time, due to a co-incidencal lifting of a wool rug and finding their cocoons on the carpet underneath. Everything of his was treated as a biohazard and binned, picked up one clear poly bag and the contents were literally running with toffee-brown clothes moths - ewww!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Definitely fits in with Kon Marie:)
Thank you for that you made me smile, I am glad the candle didn't melt in storage, the same can't be said for alot of the carrier bags brought down from the loft. They definitely died in storage as GreyQueen says, more like bits of confetti when touched! Quite a mess everywhere! !
This journey has taught me and DH alot of lessons.
It's his sisters birthday soon (she will be a new decade:) )
Already bought her gift only consumables, a yankee candle, chocolates and wine:) so we aren't adding to any clutter. Will do this for gifts from now on.
We are having an anniversary party later in the year, will definitely state in the invites no gifts, we don't need any more stuff in the house:)
